  • A night shot of an alley in Vittoriosa, Malta. This town was the residence for the Knights of Malta before they built Valletta. Vittoriosa is one of my favorite shooting grounds. One day I decided to give it a try at night. I liked this alley the minute I saw it. Problem was that all street lighting was yellow. Still I went ahead, set up my tripod and took a few shots. Back on my computer, I didn’t like the yellowish cast. So I desaturated and painted back the yellow on that one street lamp at the bottom of the alley. Nikon D70 / Nikkor 18-70 f/3.5-4.5G

  • A street in Valletta, Malta. Note the high pavements (sidewalks for our American cousins). Malta is situated south of Sicily in the Mediterranean. BEST VIEWED LARGER Related shots can be found at: / Malta and Western Meditteranean.

  • This beautiful chapel forms part of the church of St.Dominic in Valletta, Malta. It was taken on the day of the feast dedicated to the patron saint, hence the damask adorning the walls. The larger view offers more clear detail…

  • A typical Street in Valletta. This one overlooks the Grand Harbour. The balconies offer a fantastic panoramic view of the Three Cities.

  • Valletta, Malta (September 2008)

  • Valletta, under the Arches of Queen Victoria Square. It’s not yet 1015 on the day before Christmas, and Domenic has sold all of his beautiful Carnations. Fifty beautiful bunches he had. They’re all gone now!. There’s only one bouquet left, an ordered one, seen here propped up against the wall on the left side of his little flower stall. A few other Carnations are still on display hung in pots on the side. These he’ll probably give to the Parish Priest, to put in front of the Statue of Baby Jesus, on his way home. It’s an unusual early closing day for Domenic, seen here gathering all the cut-off stalks from his sold Carnations, whilst wishing his customer would hurry up and collect his ordered flowers so that he can close his stall and return home to his wife. In his early seventies, Domenic has inherited this stall from his Father. Descendants of his family have run this little business in Victoria Square in Valletta, since early Victorian times. Soon to retire, he’s thinking of who will traditionally continue to run the Flower Stall. Both of his Sons run businesses of their own – as Florists of course – but both are extremely busy with their greenhouses and the export and local distribution of flowers, to care about this little stall. Tears well up his eyes as he remembers that this little stall has fed and clothed his family for decades, only to be regarded as too small to bother about now, after all these years!. Maybe he’ll talk one of his granddaughters into it and break up his family tradition. It was always the eldest son who inherited the stall. If she keeps the good customer relations he has, he’s sure she’ll be allright. A few good tips from him will certainly see her on her way. He’d certainly hate to see the stall closed down altogether or end up the property of a non-family member. Suddenly remembering it’s Christmas time, he quickly brushed away his thoughts and made a mental note to think about this problem after the festivities. A shadow from behind him made him turn round to find that his customer has come for his flowers.

  • a little Maine Coon

  • I was sitting with Romina, my elder daughter and her daughter Jody Grace, in this caffe’ in Valletta, quitely sipping a capuccino, when all a sudden this huge head appeared in the side-street doorway. Two seconds later, its owner, the Driver of one of the ‘Karrozzini’, ( traditional horse-drawn carriages now used to carry tourists round Valletta) entered the caffe’ smiling, conscious of the fact that the huge head which emerged so suddenly in the doorway must have startled some of the customers.

  • My second Maine Coon kitty. Her name is after Valletta – the capital city of Malta.

  • House in the capital city of Malta, Valletta. Post processed in HDR. Took 3 bracketed photos. In Photomatix I processed the 3 pictures in HDR. Back to Photoshop I moved the darker photo over the HDR and got out the HDR layer as I had a horrible over exposure from the lamp. Hope you like the result. Any comments, positive or critical would oblige. Canon S3 IS handheld.

  • An alley in the oldest and once most industrious part of Valletta. A deserted block of houses and stores dating back to the 17th Century. Still lived in some 50 years ago they now await their turn to naturally crumble down and make space for more modern apartments. 4 copies of a single hand held shot taken with Olympus E-330, processed at 1/3 EV stops merged together with the original in Photomatix Pro3

  • This dove was sitting most of the time near the toilets in the Upper Barrakka., Valletta,Malta. / Because the man of the toilet gave him always something of his lunch. / So, when i went to the toilet, I took a lot of photo´s of him, and he wasnt afraid at all. I recognised him because of his white feather on top of his head. Isnt he a cute dove? / He also had a limp leg, he couldnt walk very well. / Anyway, I love pigeons, and thought this was a nice story to share.
