Well the sky’s opened up last night and it rained like you would not believe. During the night I decided to not go to work. Instead I took a trip to the local falls near my house. / Of course I took my new toy with me. My IR filter lens for my camera. :-). I snapped 200 plus pictures and just enjoyed the day. Talk about an awesome day. I need to do this more often. Now of course the downfall is its going to take me forever to look at all my pictures. I WILL be playing hooky again soon! Thank you to everyone for viewing my photos, leaving me comments, or even adding me to their watchlists or favorites. Its a great feeling!! I have seen some absolutely amazing work on this site and am glad I decided to give it a try. I almost enjoy surfing around in peoples portfolio’s more than I do posting my pictures. Jeff

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks, but we arrived back from Japan at 8am yesterday after 26 hours of being awake. We’ve posted up half of our photos over at flickr – the other half will be posted when our upload limit resets (hopefully in a few days). I know there’s quite a few pics of Cheryl and I that wont be too interesting to anyone not immediate family, but there might be some others in there you all like. Here’s a couple of my favourites:

Well, it’s been a hellofa beginning to the year. I’m exhausted and drained. Physically, emotionally, spiritually..what else is there? I’m just knackered. But no moping around feeling sad and sorry. I have much to be thankful for, much to look forward to.. So, this weekend..off I go on a road trip with a wonderful friend. We’re heading up the Great Ocean Road. There are some places I have visited many times, such as Lorne and Port Fairy, but a lot of the stuff in between I have never stopped and really seen or spent time exploring. We have our first day planned…driving straight to Apollo Bay…but after that, we are gonna fly by the seat of our pants! There is just so much to do and see. I can’t bloody wait. May even take some happy snaps :) *note – Mark, I’m just sorry it’s not the three of us goin on a road trip like we wanted to!! One day though!!

I thought I’d write this to let folks know that I’ll not be uploading or posting comments for a week or so after today. My wife’s been looking a bit tired (and moody) after a cold wet winter that seems to have lasted forever so I thought I’d surprise her and after arranging dog and house sitters I’m taking her away for a few days of 5* Mediterranean pampering. Of course I’ll have to take the camera with me as well….....

Hey one and all, hope this finds you all fighting fit and happy !! Have just returned from my quick 3 week trip to the US. Was my 23rd trip to the States so I have seen quite a bit previously. Visited / San Francisco / Yosemite – loved it !! / Las Vegas - umm, well, next …..good place to see Red Rock Canyon and then escape :) / Most fav places apart from Yosemite : / Bryce & Zion National Parks (especially hiking in Bryce) / Arches & Monument Valley / Glen Canyon / Antelope Canyon – amazing colours / Sedona, pretty place / Waking up with a view over the Grand Canyon, sunrise in bed :)) / Death Valley – loved it Experienced amazing temperature changes from -5 C to 45 C. The drive from Escalante to Torrey in Utah was so beautiful through birch forests with filtered light and snow. Tried to shoot with totally numb fingers…....not good LOL Decided that I’m a summer person for sure :) / / Picked up a SUV in Vegas and drove 2350 miles in 10 days…....and saw some amazing national parks and some really gorgeous wildlife. / Would have to say that my fav places would have to be Bryce Canyon and Yosemite, though Death Valley had some of the most amazing rock formations and colours I have seen. Death Valley was wonderful although when I was there, we had blackouts at the Furness Creek Resort, no electricity for 14 hours, sand storms and powerful winds making shooting a challenge, not to mention hiking, but I did it :)) Overall had a great adventure, feeling rested, slightly jet lagged and planning my next trip :)) Hope to catch up with your work, if you think I’ve missed one of your best shots/art work when I was absent pls BM the link :)) Talk soon. / Thanks to those that sent me messages when I was away I truly appreciate it !! I just wanted to let folks know that I won’t be able to comment or respond to bubblemails for a couple of weeks. The bags and car are packed. The house sitters arrive later and once they are installed we are off to Dorset for a holiday. I’ll catch up with everyone when I get back.

As of Friday morning I will be fighting jet-lag as I cross the Atlantic for a long awaited trip home. We will be spending 3 weeks in Eastern Canada and a fourth week in California. I hope to add lots of photos to my collection. So for the next four weeks you won’t be hearing much from me, although I am sure I will pop in from time to time. I apologize in advance for not being able to respond to all of your comments or comment on your new images. I’d just like to thank everyone for all of your kindness, friendship and support. Have a lovely summer and I look forward to seeing all of your work when I return!

Hey you all great people! =) I’m so glad to come back to my art and Redbubble after more than a month away. However it was a very remarkable month in my life because I got married (YAY!) to the most wonderful man in the world whom I love very much – Alex! It appeared to me that I have no pictures of myself on RB, so here we are: me and my husband on our wedding day :D After our wedding in Ukraine we went on the honey moon on a wonderful cruise to Italy, Greece and Croatia. Best time of my life!!!! So now we are back home in the Netherlands! I have already a lot of plans for my future creations…Hope you’ll see them soon ;) During my month away a couple of nice things happened on RB: I sold two cards: / / - Girl wants an apple / / to a wonderful photographer and writer Amanda Cole. Thanks Amanda! :) Please check out her great work on RB and on her website. Amanda has also written her first novel called “I hate Cinderella”: www.ihatecinderella.com - Ornate tropical fish card was bought by a nice stranger, so thank you to him or her! :) / This design has also been featured by the nice folks at I ♥ Patterns group / Hoooraaay! And the last but not least event is that I received the tee with my design Cat in love and gave it as a birthday present to my good old friend, our fellow redbubbler and a great artist (also my bridesmaid) “Anastasiia Kucherenko some time ago. So here she is wearing her new tee: / / This is about everything that I wanted to share with you for now! I’d better get to work because you’ve posted a lot of great art during the last month and I want to check it out ;) Cheers, / Oksancia

  • One Day For the USA Traveller
    by John Robb

Consciousness greets me in the morning with the satisfaction that last night I had sorted all the miscellaneous bits of my travel stuff i…

Consciousness greets me in the morning with the satisfaction that last night I had sorted all the miscellaneous bits of my travel stuff into neat collections – lest I arrive back in San Francisco in two weeks with an unmanageable pile of junk. My first challenge of the day is to master the waffle maker. I’ve seen them in the motel breakfast area quietly mocking me – “hey you foreigner! Can you handle the hot cast iron and get to the waffle glory?”. I carefully re-read the instructions and work the magic to get a quality waffle – I am almost a citizen at this rate. I drive out of Torrey and decide I need to visit Hillary – I saw her last night as I was driving past and decided that she needed my attention. I take several shots of her curves at several angles and experiment with a few exposures. She’s got a wonderful look and you’ll see more of her soon. In Fruita I go to school and shoot the national park ranger writing lines in a 110 year old single room school house. What a life in the middle of canyon lands with no one around except a few pioneer families. On the way back to Torrey I stop for another experiment in North American espresso coffee and trip up over pronunciation of mocha. After a few smiles with the beautiful waitress international relations were resolved and coffee was served. Interestingly the mocha wasn’t as sweet or chocolaty as expected. Off to Bryce Canyon national park. Stop and look and explore at the several places along the road. Interestingly some others manage to pull up their transportation, get out, look at the magnificent views and get back in – even before the engine has stopped spinning. You have take some minutes to read and walk down a trail or two when you’ve come so far. Now I must say that when you are at 9000 ft the lack of oxygen can impair your judgement. I can also add that the Ford Mustang is wonderfully responsive and just cruises along down slopes without a worry in the world. It also cruises a little too quickly past the park police SUV coming in the other direction. Now when pulled over by police in a foreign country all sorts of things come to mind – including not to try the first two excuses. I wonder, for a brief few minutes as they check my details, if I’m going to be sharing a cage with an angry brown bear or just a guy called bubba. Thankfully a cautious reprimand saved the day and my constitutional need for one phone call – mind you this could put potential citizenship back a bit. Travelling to Richfield in the afternoon a wonderful person called Kara greeted me at the Fairfield Inn and a comfortable room was found. A quick conversation revealed the best Chinese food around and an extra serving of sesame chicken for Kara. It also revealed that shopkeepers have little markers for checking for forged notes – black bad, yellow good. Aussie plastic notes don’t need these marker tests. A little shooting on the gun range while waiting for the Chinese revealed I needed to improve my technique. Just have to trust the gun sight a little and carefully squeeze the trigger. Sorry no stuffed toy for me from the Richfield Fairground. At the end of the meal the fortune cookie said “your next week will contain something new” – today contained several new things.

Tonight as the sky grew dark I walked through China town and observed a man playing Auld Lang Syne on a Chinese Erhu violin. It made me smile, it made me a little melancholic. It felt the same thing yesterday as I found a moment to review all the images in my point and shoot camera – a little condensed history of all that has happened in the previous 34 days of my 35 day voyage. There have been some experiences: The Vastness – Walmart has everything that can fit into the boot of a car under one gigantic roof. It tends to be a bit disorientating and a touch impersonal – I don’t think I like the concept. The Old and Venerable – On the upper levels of Macy’s in New York City the escalators are built out of wood. The sides and the steps have a wonderful patina that only comes from have seen decades of shoppers pass by. The take your breath away – When you drive out of Jackson Hole and head north you don’t see the Grand Teton mountain range until you crest a gentle rise in the road. It takes all your concentration not to swerve off the road as your jaw drops at the sight. The take your breath away 2 – Flying into New York’s La Guardia airport at night means a low level pass along Manhattan – from my window seat I got a view that will forever be in my memory. The Huston we have a problem – My shiny new 2010 Mustang rental developed a misfire in the middle of a very remote part of the USA. It started to come up with several warning messages and finally died – thankfully after a cool down it got back into action and limped back to civilisation. The deal maker – Walk into any hotel and just ask for the best price in person – always far better value than any other method. People are staying home this holiday season in the USA and hotels are hurting a bit. The deeply saddening – I have never seen so many homeless people in my life. In a country that can spend hundreds of billions on military spending I can’t understand how this can happen. The OH S#%T this could be bad – My Camera and its tripod toppled over and hit the ground whilst shooting a waterfall. I thank the divine forces from above that all that the damage tally was a small mark on the camera body and a smashed lens hood. The smiling faces – the National park rangers were always a happy sight at the entrances to the places of wonder that dot the USA. I universally met Americans that were always glad to help out and lend me their local knowledge. The warm hearts I made a few good friends on my travels and I’m glad that I have. No doubt we’ll keep in touch and swap stories in the future. Now there is sadness in leaving but there is also some happiness in coming home – I get to catch up and hug good friends and sit down and tell tales. It will be good to come home, it will be sad to leave – there will be assorted feelings. See you soon.
