  • A work shed at an abandoned shipbuilding yard on the Tyne.

  • This is the ganyway down which tens of workers would have walked every day to get to the coal staiths for a long and danger day of work loading the ships with coal to head out to sea but now they lay abandoned as the mining industry in the area has all but vanished. The top level you see was where the coal trains would pull in before the workers would unload the coal into the blue shuttles you see in the centre of shot, which would run it down into the belly of the ship.

Berlin is still a big construction site and we still live in a period of transition... We’ve just became accustomed to it… This photo was taken 2009 in Berlin Mitte, at the bridge near the Museumsinsel (Museum Island)...
