Well it’s 2009 and despite my continual PR efforts there were no Xmas sales and no one bought one of my Tees to summer party in! Agh! Ack! People tell me why you are not buying? Cost? Color? Design? Anyway this year I am doing a Ceramics Course at TAFE. I now have bills for various Materials, Stationery, Art supplies, and other stuff coming in and both my Credit and DEbit card balance are going to be very interesting at the end of the month. So help! Buy a Tee shirt or at least pass on the URLs to some one who might buy something, art, posters, prints, cards, or clothing! Off to upload more tees!

Hello everybody. It has been quite some time since I have done one of these. / Well, im back with another update. Life has been supper busy lately, mainly just trying to keep up in school. I recently got temporarily laid off of my regular job due to company funding issues, this is going to be a very bad, but also very good thing. Bad- No money for a long while. Looks like im finally going to feel the effects of this economic situation. Good- ALOT more time to focus on photography and traveling. My weekends are now completely freed up. With the coming of spring also comes a time of inspiration for me, look for alot more work to be uploaded more frequently. A few weeks ago I went to Charlotte for the day to look at a college I have been considering, I wasn’t particularly impressed but I wasn’t at all disappointed either. I am planning on continuing in my search. While at the college I met a fellow photographer from the Charlotte area. His name is Roy Powell – http://www.windhoverphoto.com/ – I had a great time chatting with him regarding the business and equipment, I found it pretty motivating and inspiring. Check out his website if you get a chance, some very impressive corporate / professional work on there. I have quite a few photography project simi-planned out, I have been doing a lot of work in my head lately thinking up new concepts and ideas to shoot. I was recently talking with my friend Andrew Hodgeson who is a B-boy out of Greensboro, North Carolina. I presented him with the idea of doing a shoot for his sponsors, Fukmor Clothing and Karma Loop. I have brainstormed up some pretty cool ( but outrageous ) ideas for it. Look for some results from that pretty soon. Now to wrap it up I would like to feature a fellow Red Bubble photographer – Jan Piller. As many of you may know from reading my last journal entry I have been presented with the daunting task of doing a Senior Project. Its not being required for all high school seniors in order to graduate. For once aspect of it we have to do interviews to gain information too do the research paper. I presented the question on Red Bubble as to whether anybody would be willing to help me accomplish this, Jan stepped right up to the plate and provided me with a GREAT interview and a lot of great information regarding my topics. I could not be more grateful for her help. After reading through all of her answers I was thinking on them and I realized that those questions most definitely apply to more than just me, that likely there are many photographers that have wondered the same things. I asked her permission to post the interview up within her feature and she assured me that it would be fine. There is A TON of great information in here that could possibly be very beneficial to people other than myself. THe interview is below. 1. What is your name? Jan Piller 2. What is your experience in the field of professional photography? I am a hobby photographer specializing in photo art. I sell my works on-line and from a local gallery. The gallery is in a restaurant so I get all that traffic. 3. How long have you been a professional photographer? Approximately 2 years but I don’t yet make a “living” with my art. I only recently decided to persue further marketing options. So am I professional? Not until I make a living doing it. 4. Did you attend any form of art school to help pursue your profession? Yes – I took private in-class and out in the field tutoring. 5. How did you first go about starting off your business? I am doing that now. I got about 3 books from the library. These books are mainly on how to market “yourself”. Next I will move in to how to market “art”. I first started my business by making deals and bargaining with other professionals. It’s called the “barter” system which many photographers will use with their models. 6. Did you work your way up to starting your own studio or did you jump right into it? Because I don’t do professional portraits yet, my studio time has been limited. Again I used the barter system to get my studio time. I painted and cleaned the studio in exchange for the studio time. 7. Did you immediately choose a niche or experiment around until you found one you liked? I’m still experimenting!! But I really do enjoy the “fine art” as opposed to portraiture and wedding photography. 8. How did you go about running your studio? I don’t run a studio, but if I were to start a studio, I would be sure to rent it out while not using it. I would want that studio to pay for itself. If I don’t have a client, maybe somebody else does. Afterall, everybody has a digital camera nowadays and wants to be a pro photog! 9. Did you market yourself or let the clients come to you? Both. Word of mouth is marvelous if you’re good and I also leave business cards and/or introduce my work in some way every opportunity I get. 10. Do you mainly focus on one niche or try different niches? I’m always ready to try something new! I think a photographer will stagnate if not given enough space to play in. I’ve heard of portrait photogs getting quite burned out by the repetetive nature of portraits – especially classic or traditional portraiture. 11. Was it difficult to get into the profession and manage your own studio ? I don’t manage the studio I use but I can tell you it’s terribly difficult. It’s not something I would recommend to anybody that hasn’t had schooling or training in both photography and small business management. And don’t forget location location location! 12. I recently read a statistic that said photography is 80% business and 20% shooting, do you find this to be true or think that there is a careful balance between the two? Not true. It would be 80% business and 100% photography and skill. So be prepared to put in 180% to your business! 13. What is the most important aspect of running a successful studio? Your clients are the most important aspect of running a successful studio. Your clients are your best marketing tool. Keep them happy and keep them coming back on a regular basis. Make them feel comfortable and secure in your knowledge, talent and skill level. Constantly work on your skill level – don’t ever let that lapse. Keep learning and keep getting better. 14. What do you feel that it takes to make it in the business as a professional photographer? Attitude. The right attitude. Somebody will always know more than you. Find those people. Learn from them. Find humilty and keep an open mind. The people with the biggest egos have the most to lose. If you always keep the attitude of “I want to learn more” then eventually you will succeed. If your ego tells you you already know enough, then you will surely fail. 15. Do you have any advise for a amateur photographer that is wanting to make photography into a profession? Yes. The best advice I can give is to ask yourself one very serious question that is imperative that you answer as truthfully as you possibly can. Search deep into the pit of your soul to answer the question. The question is “ Am I really cut out for this?” Again, I will reiterate, set your ego aside and answer truthfully. Jan has been VERY kind to take her time to help me with this, I encourage EVERYBODY that visits my page to also stop by and look through her gallery !!! She has absolutely fantastic work and is highly skilled in her practices. Please take the time to stop by her page. Hello all! Not much uploading been going on of late – the more people I meet on RedBubble, the more inspired I become as well as a feeling of great awe – however as a result my portfolio embarasses me somewhat. Still, It’s nearly May, so it’s nearly time to be starting my project! I also need to source some lily of the valley for an arrangement – another thing I ought to pursue a bit more I think: flower arranging. A bit old ladies in churches but I’m sure there’s probably some elite competition level for it or something – anyhow, it’s fun and arty. In fact, the artier the better. The arrangements you can buy from the larger, most commercial companies are shockingly boring. I mean, they’re nice but not terribly special looking. Anyway, where was I? Oh yes, the May project. I’m thinking I need a snappier name for it too. And a shinier camera. I think it may be time to start looking sweetly at my avid photography friends. Hehe :) Meanwhile, I’ve been trying to take decent shots of my cat. However, she’s not really the posing type and like human hair, black cats ‘behave’ differently in the light than white cats do. Translucent, glowing quality? Dang, it’s hard to get any contrast at all in any light – forget the fact she won’t sit still long enough for me to find out! Ah well…I can but hope. Very inspired by this guy’s work / it’s rather exciting. Not to mention finding the shots in the first place must be an adventure in itself! Makes me think I should go for a ramble and see if I stumble across something fantastic for my project. Still got a few days to fill which don’t have anything particularly specific. Check back soon! :) xxxxx

Still no luck with the cat. Meanwhile I’ve been snapping away with Lollie’s George, but it’s surprisingly difficult. / Occasionally I’ll get some totally awesome shots – but only certain formulas seem to work – a large majority are pretty awful. I put this down to trying to do a lot of things in not very much light – fair enough. / Things got somewhat better when I started from auto and worked outwards. He’s got more features than mine, but I’m not 100% sure what they all do! Anyway, once I get the lead (!) some of those should be up for thy viewing pleasure. I appear to have lost my project plans…which means I should probably write them up nicely soon and stick them to my shiny new corkboard (yay!) I imagine I may end up taking several on one day and pretending they’re different (shameful I know) but I do have exams and I’ve got a lot of people’s instruments to borrow! Hehehe… Update soon! :) xxxxx

  • Astrology update - Series of Eclipses on thier way July/August 2009

The Series of Eclipses that are coming up are real biggies, here are the dates and times and what information I have received from the charts. Hold onto your hats we are going for a ride! I give this to to all with the intention of love and awareness will help us to grow. The start of the series of Eclipses happens on Tuesday 7th July Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn at 7.21pm AEST, Pluto opposes Mercury and Squares Uranus, and is Quincunx Venus, Amongst other aspects this eclipse takes place with the Sun right on the 6th house cusp in Cancer and the Moon on the 12th house cusp in Capricorn. So depending on your chart of course but on a general level this will effect people’s health and emotionally, there will be family members whom are eclipsed with health problems, what you didn’t know before is suddenly revealed, the hospitals will be busy as the Moon is right on the 12 house cusp ruling hospitals and places of confinement, as well as mentally and emotionally people will feel a type of suffering, it may feel like loneliness to some, the churches are highlighted, globally we are all affected anyway as we are all connected energetically. It maybe more people feeling the need to turn to God, and see their Spirituality more and more as a new kind of family community. It is certainly a time for humanity to open their hearts. With the Moon in Capricorn this gives us emotional strength we need to carry on, with the Sun in Cancer our own families are at the forefront of our minds and our collective humanity as a whole. There is a lot of hype here, talking and gossiping about the state of affairs. The Moon rules the 8th house of births and deaths, and the 12th house in this chart, the Sun is in the Moons rulership, so these are definitely the things that are highlighted. This is most certainly the start of something bigger to come with the Total Solar Eclipse on the 22nd July. Wednesday 22 July Total Solar Eclipse in the Cardinal sign of Cancer at 12.34min.36secpm AEST, these are always bigger in my opinion as this is the Dark Moon so the Sun and Moons pull on the Earths surface is at it’s greatest effect as they are a combined force. This eclipse travels from India across China through the top of Burma then comes across Japan’s Ryukyu Islands and then crosses above Papua New Guinea curving south east of the Pacific Ocean. The energetic effects of this eclipse will last for around 7-8 months, this is a time when many lives are eclipsed and souls leave the earths plane. This Solar Eclipse happens in the Critical 29th degrees of Cancer, and the Nodes are also at a critical zero degrees of Leo, this is in the 9th house relating to matters abroad, I think there may be a sizable earthquake/tsunami involved with this one, Japan and India and the Islands in the Pacific region are affected. This also relates to our connection to the Higher Mind and the communication we have with Spirit. I think there will be many people praying around the world today, this will again awaken us to a higher consciousness, and once again creating the energy as if we are holding hands around the globe as a humanity, reaching out to one another. This time we have the big guns out to play, there is Pluto exactly Quincunx the Sun and Moon and the South Node, Uranus is trine the Sun, Moon and South Node. There are big changes coming with this one, from Astrologer Bernadette Brady: this is about reforms and being forced to change from older antiquated ways of thinking, as old ways will fail now, we need to align with the new energies, there maybe violent or even tragic repercussions from blockages being forcefully removed. Thursday August the 6th a Appulse Lunar Eclipse at 13degrees Aquarius at 10.55am a few minutes after the full Moon, The Sun is in Leo. Pluto is exactly quincunx the South Node, both in the crytical degree of Zero degrees, Pluto opposes to Venus, Saturn quincunx Vertex and in opposition to Uranus, extremely karmic, major changes have happened in our lives. The Sun in the 10th house in rulership in Leo so we all know about it now it is the centre stage of the news globally, the Sun rules the 11th house and Saturn sits here so big business and governments are now lent upon, impressed to help others in need. The Moon in Aquarius is in the 4th house so people are thinking about their own homes and the comfort they have whilst others may not be so lucky, the earth may be shaken about, Uranus and Pluto are Square to each other, and the Nodes are right at the MidHeaven/IC Axis point. It is about our own roots and we are asked to step up here, emotionally we are reaching out thinking about others across the globe. The Moon is in the sign ruled by Saturn and Uranus, Saturn again in the 11th house opposes Uranus, The foundations for many maybe coming unstuck. As I said it goes out into the Pacific ocean it is a fair way from our eastern shore here in Australia, approximately 5000 kilometers, the eclipse map below shows the path of the Moon’s umbral shadow extending across the globe as shown below, there fore it’s path as connected to our planet. if you go to this web site it will give you a more detailed description of the path of the Moon’s Umbral Shadow during this eclipse. http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/OH/OH2009.html Eclipses like these ones most certainly can and I think will effect the earth in the most cataclysmic ways, so everything like Volcanic activity and seismic activity and Tsunamis are very likely. It is also a fair way away from Krakatau but I guess anything is possible this is Mother Nature at it’s most powerful? This is a particularly violent one as there are so many other aspects in formation including Pluto. Have a look at the map I attached from my astrology software below plus the one from the NASA site.

I recently announced I’d hung some photos in a local restaurant. This is a thrill for me. It is my first public showing! Hopefully, people are appreciating the work, thinking about buying the work, and maybe even picking up my business card. Time will tell, but either way, I am grateful to the owner who has allowed for this to happen and to the friend who provided me with a kick in the butt to approach this owner in the first place! I have been offering a free 8×10 to those people in my life-outside of my immediate family-who have been supportive and encouraging along the way. Not everyone has taken me up on it, but those who have are ecstatic with the prints I’ve provided them. It makes me feel good to know that people appreciate my work. The sales will come. I know this. I have recently completed my first photo shoot! The photos came out beautifully and will be going into my online portfolio, starting here. As soon as I have the chance, I will be uploading the best of them (not for sale.) My web site is under construction. I think it’s halfway or maybe a little further along to completion. I’m very excited. I know that having my own site, even if it points to other venues, will provide more polish to my little start-up! I stated a while back that I would be adding T-shirts “within the next couple of weeks.” LOL! That did not happen, but now that I’ve cleared some things off my plate, I’m going to start playing with the template and my photos and seeing if I can come up with some interesting, attractive designs for people to wear. I want to thank each and every person who comes to my page and gives me photos a look. May each and every one of you have a wonderful summer! Jennifer Moore / JennfierLynn Productions, LLC

  • My Journey To Recovery

In case you wondered why I seemingly disappeared the last few months…here is part one of my digital journal as I work towards recovery from prescription drug addiction This is my story today and what I am growing through as I am struggling day by day to get my life back on track and to hopefully find myself again. I am a brutally honest writer and this particular post covers a rather sensitive topic that I am going through. I hope it doesn’t gross anyone out, I just promised myself that I would be as open and honest as possible to help with my own recovery and to perhaps encourage others who might suffering in private to know it is ok to reach out when you need it Life has not always been easy for me over the years but I am working each day to make it better. While I have found my life’s passion by becoming a self-taught graphic design and photography manipulation specialist, I have also struggled for years with addiction to an amphetamine based ADHD drug called Adderral. It has wreaked havoc on my personal and professional life and each day is a slow (and sometimes) painful step towards recovery. Throughout the process, however, I have learned that their is much love in my life and that goes a long way towards helping me heal. The sad part is that while I am indeed a text book case of ADHD I continued to use the drug and eventually became an addict for a completely different reason. As you can see from the photo attached that picture is not me when I was pregnant with my daughter or my son but me 2 days ago an hour after eating! I have a disease called “Lazy Colon Syndrome” which essentially does not allow my colon to eliminate waste on a regular basis. I have already endured a 7 hour surgery to correct my problem and now have a permanent piece of my colon called a stoma on the outside of my body. Unfortunately the surgery only took me from once every 2 months to perhaps twice a month of being able to eliminate waste from my system so once I started Adderall and the pain and bloating went away I truly thought I had found some crazy sort of miracle drug. I ate once a day because my hunger was gone and then I didn’t have any pain so in some ways it was easy to justify staying hooked even though somewhere in the back of my mind I knew I was trading one evil if you will for another. Now that I am in my 2nd month off of all the drugs the same painful, daily struggle has started once more. I eat a meal and for 3 hours I look like I’m ready to have a baby. If you wanna see what I mean here is a pic I took 2 weeks ago about 30 minutes after eating dinner “http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=3264743&albumID=3232501&imageID=67584971” Every day it has gotten progressively worse because (and forgive me here I know this is not a pretty topic) but if the waste in your system can be eliminated normally it is like taking a damn that is already backed up and adding more and more wood to it. It’s painful and makes me feel so ugly. I’ve had several days over the last few weeks where I have been desperate to go back on the drugs if only to have my body stop rebelling against me. I have recently decided to try to go the holistic route and am starting an intensive 30 day system cleanse while I wait to see my GI dr at the end of July. Every day right now is a personal struggle to try to avoid the temptation I have to find a new Dr. to prescribe me more ADHD meds just so that I don’t have to feel like this. Well my hands are tired (lol) so I’m going to stop here for now but I do want to publicly thank my husband and children for being so understanding and for not being ashamed that I have chosen to so publicly share my experiences. I have always used writing as my way of healing and I do not know if I could continue to stay strong or focused if I didn’t have this outlet. I cannot express how much I also appreciate the feedback and support that I have received from my friends here both old and new. I LOST SO MUCH over these last 5 years as I slipped further and further into my own world. I do not know where each day is going to take me next but I DO KNOW that with the continued support of my friends and family I am going to be able to handle it no matter what is around the corner.

Felt like writing again tonight so I thought I would share a little more about how addiction to prescribed drugs has affected me over the years. A friend of mine and I where discussing a situation with a family member of hers who is also being treated for ADHD. Here is my response to her about my experience with Adderal Over the course of 5 years I became a full blown addict and went from 25 mg a day to being able to take almost 200 mg a day to feel what I thought at the time was “normal”. Before I started the drug I weighed roughly 125 pds, at my lowest weight over the years I’ve weighed anywhere between 87 to 89 pds with my weight staying roughly around 92 for the past 6 years or so. Besides the medication indued aneroxia (I only ate once a day and spent the rest of the day drinking coffee and chain smoking) I also began showing signs of Bi-Polar disorder. Since my mother has this I was convinced that the doctor was correct and began taking heavy anti-depressant medications on top of the adderral. I’ve been on Clonadine, Serequel, Cymbalta, Lorazepam, Prozac and several others. I was told a I was bi-polar about a year ago and honestly believed I was. I had massive mood swings, paranioa, never left the house, stopped doing business or became completely obssessed with being on the computer and would spend 12 to 15 hours a day basically accomplishing nothing. I lost all of my friends and alienated family members in the process. What doctors do not tell you is that Aderral is essentially a legal version of speed. Getting off the drug was absolutely the hardest thing I have EVER done. A visit to the local addiction recovery center made things 100 times worse. After being informed that they could not treat me as an out patient and wanted me to stay for 30 days, I really ended up losing it. I became suicidal and figured that my children and husband, hell anyone would have to be better off than dealing with me the way I was at that moment. The drive home from that appt was the beginning of turning point. As I drove over our bridge I could not shake the absolute desire to drive my car off the railing and be done with it. Thankfully my logical side won out and I made it home hysterical and a mess but I was alive and I knew then and there that I had to get strong and fight for my recovery. It never dawned on me that a little pill that my doctor willing gave me every month could turn me into such a desperate monster seeking her next pill. Thankfully I never resorted to using anything illegal or purchasing it illegally but I can’t guarantee that if I had I stayed on it for a longer period of time that it would not have ended up that way eventually. In the last 3 months, I’ve gained weight ( I’m at 97 which does not seem like a lot but having dealt with a sort of psuedo anorexia I am still struggling with being at this weight) started leaving my house again and started reaching out to friends again, and oh yeah all those “bi-polar” symptoms are also completely gone! If I had known 5 years ago what I know now I would have never started taking the drug. I know my experience may be unique only to myself but for me at least, Adderal was the devil cloaked in orange, and I am so glad I’m finally on the road to being able to ignore his tempation.

Sorry for the lack of updating >_< school got a little busy, to say the least. Also got extremely stressful due to a couple of factors. One being I got a horrible case of strep throat which caused me to fall behind in my classes. The other being having to deal with an unreasonable teacher. I wont go into details or name names, but I think a few of my classmates may know whom I’m talking about ;) Any ways, summer vacation is almost over for me. only a month and a half left. It’s sad really. The past 2 and half months have flown by and I’ve done hardly anything! I’m still jobless. I’m about 100% sure that my old-old job (fairweathers) went under new management which is why I was never told I was fired. Technically I still don’t know because no one has contacted me. I did get a T4 form for my income tax and I hadn’t worked there since Feb 2008…. Any ways, I ventured into the store last week looking for a dress to wear to a wedding. I didn’t recognize a single person working there. I overheard someone talking to the manager (She addressed herself as such) and yea, she wans’t my manager when I was working there, lol…..So I’m just guessing that everyone was fired then. Moving on….I did go to Toronto with my friends to visit our friend. That was a fun and interesting adventure. Went to Canada’s Wonderland and had a blast, despite the hour and a bit of rain. I went to the St Thomas and London airshow Wings&Wheels. I got to shoot the show with the hired photographers, which was so incredibly awesome! It was mt best photography experience to date! Next year I think I’m going to go to the air show in Geneseo NY with my dad. And I’d like to go to the Windsor show too. I’m really getting into this whole aviation photography. I managed to get quiet a few awesome shots at the air show, which has boosted my confidence greatly.

Some may be wondering why I have been inactive lately; therefore, I would like to update everyone on what I’ve been up to. For the past month I’ve been spending time with my baby daughter – who is now 5 months old -, preparing our older children for the new school year, and working on my web site. I’ve been following the forums and viewing other’s work during this time, as well. I must say that I am quite impressed with the growth and work of my peers. During the month of August, I was able to do one photo shoot, which I hope to show the results soon. With the two older children in school and my web site nearly completed, it is my expectation to become a bit more active here on RedBubble. Regards, / Al

Hi ya all! Next 4 days I will be spending in the continental part of Croatia. I’m going to Lika, an area where the National park Plitvice lakes is located. I hope to find some nice landscapes there and to relax and enjoy the nature a little. The autumn is still not in it’s full glow here, (better to say, it’s still summer), the weather is too hot and sunny for this time of the year and people still go to the beaches. Next week the weather is finally changing, so I think I will have to be back there in a week or two for some real autumn shots. But I’m still looking forward to spending four days wandering around the woods, rivers and lakes… / See you soon! hugs’n’kisses Lidija
