Don’t talk too much, russian poster of communism fear. During the Russian Revolution a movement was initiated to put all arts to service of the dictatorship of the proletariat. In search of new forms of expression, the Proletkult organisation was highly eclectic in its art forms. In practice it meant that artists had to produce works glorifying the leaders and policies of the Soviet Union. Art effectively became a form of propaganda.Posters and paintings works in Style later known as Socialist Realism sympathetic to the communist government include partisans, hammers, sicle, stars and industrial or agricultural landscapes were popular subjects, glorifying the achievements of the Soviet economy.Artists who could not work within the boundaries of Socialist Realism were send to the labor camps. Artists who chose to paint in alternative styles had to do so completely in private and were never able to exhibit or sell their work. (wikipedia.org)

©Seth F. Weaver, Sr. 10/17/88. A Japanese brush ink sketch. I did a whole lot of these very quick little sketches for a sidewalk art sale a few years back sold them for $5 each. This one has always been a favorite of mine. I’ve done several variations of this composition. / This was inspired by the Civil War. I love the Civil War since my great great grandfather actually fought in it. I can hear the thundering horses, the clashing sabres, the small arms fire and all this played out on a field of death and destruction.

The West Lothian countryside in East Central Scotland taken from the banks of the Union Canal. This 31.5 mile contour canal travels from The Falkirk Wheel to Edinburgh. In the distance, you can see the Avon Viaduct which crosses the River Avon just outside Linlithgow Bridge, West Lothian. Linlithgow Bridge is dominated by this Viaduct which was constructed in 1840 to carry the main Edinburgh to Glasgow railway line across the valley of the River Avon to Linlithgow, which it still does today. The viaduct has 23 arches, a maximum height of 85 ft and is almost 900 feet long. This rather strange little hut is situated beside the end of the Union Canal just before the tunnel which leads to the Falkirk Wheel on the outskirts of Falkirk, Scotland. I have no idea what the hut is used for. BEST VIEWED LARGER Related shots can be found at: Lowland Scotland.
