Can you see the ghost sailor playing chess with his dog on his left shoulder? / Actual shot. No Photoshop. This was captured while composing a shot in dry ice smoke.
Toklat in his zen mode draped over the top stair, after a rough day hiking and playing. I named him Toklat, which is a river and glacier in the Denali National Park and Preserve, after doing some editing and layout work for the Denali park service. Toklat is a very sweet and uncomplicated dark-chocolate Retriever. He doesn’t chase moose. I hope he won’t chase bears. Taken for a challenge in the “Man’s Best Friend” group, and, well, because I can’t resist taking photos of our two Labs. Toklat placed in the top ten of the “Man’s Best Friend” challenge. You should see him when he gets excited (this isn’t the time). Toklat’s looks earned him a feature at “Man’s Best Friend” – Thank you! Nikon D200, Nikon 105mm VR lens. 105mm, f/5 , 1/100, ISO 100, -0.3ev. Converted from RAW to jpeg using Capture NX 2, manual exposure. Unedited, no post-processing.

Looking at part of the Chugach Range during our recent warm temperatures. Much of the snow has melted in the lower elevations. This has upset many dog mushers and Iditarod fans. It rained again today. Most unusual. This is an “as-is” shot, untouched, except to change from the RAW format to a jpeg. Did have the polarizing filter on, I think. While it might look over-saturated, I haven’t touched a thing. I’m experimenting with the dynamic range, to try to capture the white of the snowy mountains and the darker look of the ground without snow. Exif: Nikon D70, Focal Length: 70.0mm, Exposure Time: 0.017 s (1/60), Aperture: f/11.0, Exposure Bias: -0.33, Metering Mode: Matrix, Exposure: Manual, Exposure, Mode: Manual Sold – Thank you! Our water-loving Lab needs frequent bathing. Melting snow in our area of Alaska lasts forever in breakup season (elsewhere known as spring). Nikon D70 / This is an untouched, as-is photo. The muddy water is, unfortunately, as-is, too. Water and snow make Toklat happy. I gave up attempts to keep him clean.

Unedited, aside from leveling the horizon and cropping the image. Unfortunately, this was taken with a primitive, 3 megapixel point and shoot camera, so anything over letter size would not look good.

This is a shot of the underside of a carnation. I captured this image outside at night. I had shut off the flash and only used the flood light in my backyard. That was the only lighting used for this image.
