“A work will only have deep resonance if the kind of darkness I can generate is something that is resident in me already.” / Anish Kapoor
This was shot in the infamous carpark were they filmed Madmax. It’s such an eerie and mysterious place. There were puddles everywhere and at first I was trying to avoid them. I then realised the beautiful reflections given off by the lights. I think the puddle adds another element to the image.

Her full name is Oya-Yansan, which means “mother of nine.” / In /African) Yoruba mythology, Oya (Alternative spellings: Oiá, Iansã, Iansan), is the Goddess of the Niger River; She is seen in aspects of warrior-goddess of wind, lightning, fertility, fire, and magic. She creates hurricanes and tornadoes and guards the underworld. As the Spirit of the Wind, Oya manifests in Creation in the forms as sudden and drastic changes; she is not only responsible for weather changes, but also for the changing moods of most people. / She takes care of all graveyard gates and makes sure the dead stay where they are meant to. In addition, she has a brighter side as the santo in charge of the rainbow and all its beautiful colours. Main image is a 3D/original/cinema4D render. It was combined with several layers with background photo and painted clouds and smoke.
Here is another from the Sveta series. She is a Caberet wonder. Sveta Dobranoch has, as of yesterday, toured to Adelaide for a guest appearance the Spiegeltent- / How wonderful, the serial heartbreaker can wreak havoc and shed some love and tears on the quiet city. Simoncee is so beautiful and who has eyes like her? I don’t know.
(Please, view larger). / Yewa is the Orisha of Death. She is a Virgin Orisha. Her priestesses are past their prime and always celibate. She is associated with Saint Claire. Her color is pink. When she dances at funeral rites she covers her face with two horse tails. She is queen of the underworld. She represents the spiritual side of the Goddess, the inward-looking, mystical aspects of being. This is basically a cinema 4D render; just a bit postwork to enhance the atmosphere. / (CINEMA 4D is a commercial, cross-platform, high-end 3-D graphics application, produced by MAXON Computer, Germany.)
Watercolor and pencil on illustration board, / 10×8 / 2009 Model: Adhara Batul One of the Greek myths I adore the most, for its incredible strength, poetry and significance, is the myth of Persephone. In Greek mythology, Persephone was the goddess of the underworld and of the Spring growth. Daughter of Demeter, goddess of the harvest, she was abducted by Hades and taken to the land of the dead. By a determination of the Fates, she was forced to stay for two seasons each year after eating pomegranates seeds, thus becoming consort of Hades and queen of the underworld. This time I opted by depicting her sorrow and solitude after having the seeds, although there’s quite an air of resignation with her destiny.
The Graces In Greek mythology, the Charites were the Graces. / The Graces were the Goddesses of charm, beauty, nature, human creativity and fertility. They were great lovers of beauty and gave us humans our talents in the arts. Closely associated with the Muses, the Charites/Graces were also associated with the underworld – the fertile womb of Mother Earth. The river Cephissus near Delphi was said to be sacred to them. For many centuries we have not been listening to our Muses. Not trusting our own guidance. The Graces have been huddled together for warmth… waiting for the time when we would look to them (to our own Divinity) again for true guidance. Many men and women are now making the choice to enter into the flow of the river… into the pure creative flow of Universal Energy and connect to his or her Muse. Let your natural creativity guide you. / Live in Grace. This is a pencil, art marker, and chalk pastel on 80 lb. off-white pastel paper. I wanted the Graces to look cold – almost statues. They are turning their heads to us and hearing our combined voices for the first time in a long time. The flowers are starting to bloom at their feet and the faint hint of a sunrise is on the horizon.
Oil on canvas Queen of the Heavens who agrees to surrender her crown, jewels, scepter etc to visit her Shadow sister in the Underworld. At seven gates she is stripped seven times of everything she thinks she is, and crucified to discover who she truly is….an undying Light. This ancient Sumerian myth is one of the first to express crucifixion and resurrection. Such myths are reflections of the suns 3 waning days at the Winter Solstice, but is psychologically a metaphor for the times in our lives when we lose all that we think is important, and in the pain and debris, find the strength of our true nature within. (original oil on canvas 90cm x 120cm – $2,000)
