  • Yeah… taken with a pinhole camera, 1.5 minutes on an overcast day… Still underexposed, but I thought this made a relatively good abstract image. Reminds me of an image I had to analyse in an exam.. 1930’s long exposure, distorted features in the figure… I’ll find out what it’s called.

  • Had a great amount of luck when i took this shot. You have to love the friendly pigeons of Timisoara.

  • On the way to Nigata for a pre-wedding trip and we stopped at a service station. The clouds were really interesting and I was just messing around with my camera and “Volia!” This shot was very underexposed intentionally to make the clouds really dramatic. I then added a sepia tint. Also added the original unedited version in blue. Please tell me which one you prefer sepia or blue.

No photo shop or editing has been done. Straight out of the camera. Also added the edited version in sepia. Please tell me which one you prefer sepia or blue.

  • There’s a yellow tree that no one sees / where the water meets the land / The grass grows tall and the shadows fall / the blades cast a ghostly dance / The banks are stained with blood and rain / where the water meets the land / A secret there they’ll never share, a code of silence / And you will never see what’s been hiding / where the water meets the land / until a careful wind begins to lift / each grain of dust and sand. Chandelier Lake is a mysterious place / and the ghost of a woman who sleeps beneath the waves. / Chandelier Lake is a mysterious place / and she’s the only one who knows its name. A little fox gone wandering / where the water meets the land / Tired, lost, and hungry, / she sees diamonds against the plants / so she sat down by what she’s found / where the water meets the land / and there exposed was clothes and bones / and a ring on a lifeless hand / Then the trees and the wind they hold their breath / all feigning ignorance / And no one will ever remember it / because they are made to forget Chandelier Lake is a mysterious place / and the ghost of a woman who sleeps beneath its waves / Chandelier Lake is a mysterious place / and she’s the only one who knows her grave chandelier lake-tilly and the wall

  • Shot 23.8.2008, accidentally underexposed – but I like the effect.

  • This is a picture of the back of a church, i intentionally underexposed this shot as the glare of the white wall was so bad, and I wanted to captured this image in this light.

  • way underexposed christmas tree

  • / I wouldn’t like to feed the photographers for which this photo is the plain and simple truth. Another instalment in my Nostalgia series although a little different then usual in the set-up. It’s a lot simpler a composition then most of my work, but let me assure you, it was so much harder to get right! Shot with my relatively new Pentax K10D and a very old Pentax-A 1:1.7 50mm objective. You can read all about the technique used in this tutorial more work / the calendar / preview / “Forgotten” was sold as a Medium mounted print to an anonymous buyer. Thank you! “Forgotten” is also freely downloadable as a wallpaper to decorate your desktop.

  • Calibrating my laptop screen

Over the last few months I have been building my portfolio, trying various techniques and photographing different subjects (http://alecrain.redbubble.com/), photos that I was especially proud of I put here on Redbubble (and Flicr) to get some comments and even perhaps to sell few of them. / At one point I even decided to print one or two of the photos on my home printer that was always good to me but to my frustration I could never get it to print the photos I processed correctly. / I always shoot in RAW and then process the photos to my liking, however photos that looked great on my screen (default screen settings for my Toshiba P300 laptop) don’t look so good on the prints- they are way underexposed and HUE and Saturation are off. I decided to calibrate my screen using one (and then many) of the calibration photos I found online. / I printed one using default printer settings and then holding the print next to my screen I tried to adjust contrast, gamma, hue, saturation to my screen best represent the actual print. / Finally after few hours I was happy with the result, I confirmed that all was good by trying other calibration images and good quality photos from National Geographic and so on. All was good But then I rechecked my own photos, to my terror most of them were really bad, nothing what I worked so hard on achieving. / ........... / :-(

  • Taken at Lorne, just off The Great Ocean Road, Victoria, Australia Holga 120WPC (wide angle pinhole camera), Kodak Tmax100 @ ISO50, 3 second exposure

  • An accidental beauty. These in my yard began blooming earlier in the week, about April 20th, a full two weeks after other local fields. Sadly, the blooms remain lovely for a week or less.

  • A shot I underexposed in order to highlight the water drops from the morning dew on this blade of grass.

  • / A new addition to my Nostalgia series. As you can see the theme is similar to my previous still life, as this new concept was born while shooting the other one. The style is slightly different though, going for a more “cluttered” composition this time. / As usually, this still life was created using my own version of the painted with light technique, of which you can find the tutorial here . There is one big difference with the last few photos, I found a smaller, better flashlight. This one allows me once more to get the “paint” effect more to my liking. Shot with my Pentax K10D and my 80’s Pentax SMC M 28mm f3.5 lens which I love very, very much! more work / the calendar / preview /

  • Nostalgia, a calendar with images from my ongoing quest for nostalgic still life photography. All photo’s where shot using my Painted with Light technique of which I wrote a tutorial which is threatening to become my most popular post here on RB. :)
