I was watching the movie “The Ultimate Gift” listening to the character played by James Garner talking to his grandson when he said… ‘Learning is a gift… even if pain is your teacher”. As soon as the words had finished coming out of his mouth I honestly said out loud – YES!! Immediately I was blown away by the quote and I wrote it down and thought about its meaning for weeks. I’ve never felt so affected by a sentence before. Upon reflecting this quote I found quite confronting to realise that I spent my twenties doing everything to avoid and “run away” from my emotional pain.. Now in my 30s I’ve realised that pain was essential for me to be a more caring, less-judgemental and forgiving person. Pain seems to show us the truth in others… the truth that all people, no matter what’s on the outside… have a heart capable of breaking on the inside. It gives me great comfort that I can now view the grief of my brothers death as somewhat of a gift to me – rather than nothing but a loss FEATURED IN Prize Challenges GROUP / FEATURED IN Creative Inspirations / FEATURED IN YOU’RE ACCEPTED GROUP / FEATURED IN FIRST THINGS GROUP / FEATURED IN TYPOGRAPHY GROUP t-shirt available .
Thought I’d try this quote as a polaroid so it would look ok on a tee. .
Find me a cheekier beef horse than this, and I’ll gladly give you my favourite teapot. Detail, colour, taste and pure cheek – this cheeky cow’s got the lot. To quote what she said to me just after I took the picture: “Moo”. And you can’t argue with that. Proud of your kitchen? Imagine this beauty on your wall. As a picture, I mean. Not the actual cow. Crops and resizes by request.

Hah – had to share this with you all I have three cats, which I rescued about ten years ago. One, is a little black female called Dinky, who is a bit of a snob. A little princess it would seem, with super stealth and marvellous agility. She can jump higher than my head, and run across a windowsill of fine china without disturbing a single piece. One is a great big Tom called Sox, who is a huge and powerful cat. He is the boss here and knows it. He tends to be pretty agile outside, but a bit clumsy around the house. He is also a bit of a sooky with humans. Then there is the little tortie female called Scrunch. She is tiny, and a complete wuss. Where the others will chase mice, rats and birds, she will only attempt things like the odd fly or butterfly given the chance. Even spiders frighten her and she looks at them but runs a mile if they move. Well she is the ultimate in stupidity also – she has no agility and struggles to even jump up onto the bed :) / It has nothing to do with her physical ability, she is as strong healthy cat, but its all about fear with her – she is afraid of her own shadow I swear! She jumped behind the television unit yesterday [I am suprised she managed to get up there in the first place], and then thought – Oh Yes – I can get out through here! So very sad, but funny as hell.
Hmmmm, Well what can I say. / / With this lack of activity, I have just been playing as and when I could over the last few week – a few minutes here and there, and perhaps an hour when I could manage. / / This, started out as a kids windmill, and I sectioned pieces of if off and used lots of duplication and transform tools in Photoshop to create this little guy All created in Photoshop. / / / / He has been sitting on my PC for quite some time, while I figured out what I could do with him. / / Special thanks go to the members and hosts of Graphic Editing 101 for helping with ideas. / / I decided to make a few variations of him [again, nothing too demanding] and placed lots of them into an underwater scene [made with two images from sxc.hu / / It was a bit of fun, and I had no idea what I was aiming for when I started – like I said, I needed something to do, while my other work [far more demanding on my hands] is on hold.

Osphre soaring past palm trees, after his morning fishing. Notice the surprised fish he’s hold in his claws. Beautiful sunrise morning skys were as taken off my balcony on Fripp Island, SC. I think im going to have to go some to beat this corridor shot, especially in a hospital, the stone archway is just magnificent, as is the glass work on the first door on the left.

“A human being is a part of a whole, called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest… a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.” – Albert Einstein

best viewed large Twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, rain, snow or shine, a park bench witnesses the beauty of nature… sit one day on one of them and simply imagine that your subtle body stays there for a few days and nights… then, wherever you are, close your eyes for a moment and “see” the view from the bench at this particular time… perhaps, a good recipe for stressful and challenging times /

BRISTLECONE PINE / by Hugh Prestwood Way up in the mountains on the high timber line / There’s a twisted old tree called the Bristlecone Pine / The wind there is bitter, it cuts like a knife / And it keeps that tree holding on for dear life But hold on it does, standing its ground / Standing as empires rise and fall down / When Jesus was gathering lambs to his fold / The tree was already a thousand years old Now the way I have lived there ain’t no way to tell / When I die if I’m going to heaven or hell / So when I’m laid to rest it would suit me just fine / To sleep at the feet of the Bristlecone Pine For as I would slowly return to the earth / What little this body of mine might be worth / Would soon start to nourish the roots of that tree / And it would partake of the essence of me And who knows but that as the centuries turn / A small spark of me might continue to burn / As long as the sun did continue to shine / Down on the limbs of the Bristlecone Pine Now the way I have lived there ain’t no way to tell / When I die if I’m going to heaven or hell / So I’d just as soon serve out eternity’s time / Asleep at the feet of the Bristlecone Pine / Asleep at the feet of the Bristlecone Pine
