She had been weaving because her father, the emperor loved the beautiful clothes that she made. On this particular day, she was very sad because she realized that she had been so busy that she didn’t have time to fall in love. Her father, Tentei, the ruler of the heavens, felt sorry for her and arranged a marriage with Kengyuu (a cattle herder, who lived across the river, the Milky Way). / Their marriage was one of sweetness and happiness from the start; and everyday thereafter they grew happier and happier. • This ACEO is an original, NOT a reproduction. It is done on a piece of canvas with acrylic paint. The canvas has been mounted to a piece of thick cardboard upon completion. This ACEO is a one of a kind artwork by me and will never be reproduced. I am doing 100 “themed” ACEOs as a creative exercise. This is theme 027- “Foreign.” I LOVE Japanese woodblock prints. But, I’ve never really studied them very closely or anything. So, this seemed like a good time. I went through several different ideas for this theme, actually, and this was the most fun in my head. It was nice to experiment with style some, and study all the beautiful references I found on-line too! A young man and a beautiful mysterious woman meet under the trees in the moonlight. Are they secret lovers? A dangerous lady hiring an assassin? A beautiful and innocent girl in search of the protection of a warrior? I’ll let you decide the story behind this image. This ACEO is based off two different works by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839-1892). I used his work for a style reference- and I confess, I relied pretty heavily since I’ve never tried this style before, but I did make a lot of changes and I think you can still see a bit of “my style” coming through, of course. WHAT IS AN ACEO? / ACEO stands for “Art Cards, Editions and Originals”. These cards have one main rule – they are 3.5 inches by 2.5 inches – the size of a trading card. Cards are also sold either as originals or editions. Make sure you know which you are buying! If it is a print it should say so, and it should be numbered and signed, usually on the back. Art Cards can be a riot! Artists from all over the world are creating, and now selling these little gems in different mediums and of different subjects. Watercolor, Oil, Acrylic, Colored Pencil, Pastels, Pyrography, Pen and Ink, Sketching, Collage – the sky is the limit. Abstract, Surrealism, Outsider Art, Impressionism, Expressionism -every style you can think of – and then some!.

  • A fresh take on the classical painting by Greuze, called “La cruche cassée” (the broken jug). The original painting can be seen in Louvres and is full of symbolism. This one mirrors the technique of the Ukiyo-e, or japanese woodcut. I hope you’ll enjoy it ! {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{ Cards and prints}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} Check my photography website !
