I took this when I went trekking for gorillas in the volcanos of Rwanda. On the border of D.R. Congo & Uganda. These gorillas were around 7 metres from us – and would have been closer if we hadn’t stepped back (you’re only allowed to be as close as 7 metres). We just hung around and watched the family for an hour. It was pretty cool. My profile / / /
A little girl from Mt. Elgon, Uganda tells me with a smile in her native Lugandan language, not to take her picture. This village borders the initial hot zone, near Kitum Cave, where the Ebola virus broke out back in the late 60’s and continued to baffle scientists up until the last century. Uganda, East Africa July 1998

In my early twenties, I traveled to Africa to see the fascinating wildlife in their own habitat. I have just begun to scan some of my photos that have lied dormant in a photo album. With the advance of digital photography, I can crop, sharpen and enhance these photographs to remember the glorious sunsets and exquisite and fascinating wildlife in Kenya and other areas of Africa. This was a memorable trip with some great photos to share not that I can use technology to improve on many images of African life. / I can’t help but admire the fashionable blonde hair style that adorns this beautiful Crane’s head. The respect that the people of Uganda have for this friendly, gentle and peace loving bird, characteristics that also reflect the Ugandan people are a model for all of us who want to preserve one of our most precious resouces, our planet’s wildlife. It is a crime punishable by imprisonment to kill a Crested Crane. I have often hoped that people who are cruel or recklessly kill our wildlife should be held accountable for their crimes, especially for those animals that are close to extinction due to man’s greed, ignorance and massive denial about the serious threat to our ecosystem and our specie’s survival. The crested crane roosts in trees, because of a long hind toe that can grasp branches. These magnificent birds have a lovely breeding display involving dancing, bowing, and jumping. It has a booming call which involves inflaition of the red gular sac. This is a whimsical photo of this unusual looking species, a delight to view overcoming aged technology and enhancing my passion for wildlife as revealed by this magnificent subject. I love her fashion forward hair style.

/ This Hippo (in the Kazinga Channel in Uganda ) is a new and protective mother, she was letting us know in no uncertain terms to “back off”. I was lucky enough to take multiple images of her attempted attack, and this is one of them. / Nikon D300, 80-200mm, Nikon 2.8 lens, Focal Length 170mm, Apt. F3.5, Shutter Speed 1/8000s, ISO 400
This young woman is from Uganda in the Bwindi National Park, she was performing with others to raise money for her community. Any money from sales of this image will be donated back to her community.
This young Ugandan boy looks as if he is deep in thought. Note his shoes. Most Ugandan children do not own shoes, especially in out in the country areas. This was taken as we were driving through his village.
I love this Silverback Gorilla ( in Uganda ) and all ” the looks” he gives, the amazing thing is that he has no idea how incredible he is. He just is !
This young boy was one of thousands of children carrying water for their families, sometimes for many miles. The crazy thing is that Uganda has very good rain fall, but very few can afford gutters for their roof, let alone water tanks. I always use a Nikon D300 and a 80 to 200 Nikon 2.8 lens on all ( well, almost all ) of my images
This young girl is an orphan to AIDS in Uganda. She along with many other children were singing and dancing to raise money for financial support. Any money from the proceeds of sale of this print will go to her orphanage.
