  • Ballymun housing estate on Dublins Northside in 1995. A community that was plagued with drugs and drug dealers and of course poverty and apathy. There was more than a few suicides by leaping from the balconies and stairwells of the flats. A governments dream for low cost housing in the 1960´s when they cleared the inner cities. Ireland was not ready for this type of housing as it was not a bungalow on an acre of land front and back and it was therefore systematically neglected. In many ways “The Flats” were ahead of their times and those living there suffered because of it. That said Ballymun had & has a great sense of community and pride sadly lacking in many “better-off” housing estates. Now scheduled for demoliton, three of these towers, all named after leaders of Irelands 1916 armed rising against British rule, still stand. Here there be neighbours.

  • This art work was created in collaboration with Bradley Nichol We discovered that we are each U2 fans and decided to collaborate illustrating the songs from The Joshua Tree. This is the first work we have done together. The main image of the tree and stars is all Brad. I absolutely fell in love with the photograph and added the miners, lighting, and red. The image of the miners is public domain. Finally the song, “Red Hill Mining Town,” was written by Bono some say in response to the United Kingdom miner’s strike in 1984 when Maggie Thatcher closed “unprofitable” mines, placing already economically fragile families in peril. • I’ve been in London for well over a year now, but I still can’t get over the fact that I can wander past a radio station at lunch, see a crowd, find out who they’re lining up for, wait for less than twenty minutes and get to take a portrait shot of the lead singer of pretty much my favourite band, U2. Just like that! And, photo taken on the DSLR I have just proven it’s worth always having on hand, next pull out my travel journal, and snag a quick autograph too. And, after thanking the man, have him look at me briefly, and proceed to draw a quick sketch-portrait of me to go with the autograph. / Original artwork by Bono. Purely random and cool… gotta love it. As for the shot – sure, eye contact would have been nicer at that range – but catching the reflection of Bono’s face from a picture held by a fan in Bono’s own sunglasses is kind of special And then I go back to work and well, let’s just say it’s random and cold there.

  • I was just listening to some music, when the track October by U2 came on. It’s one of my most favourite U2 tracks, and it inspired me to create this piece immediately! I know it’s definitely more wintery than autumnal, but to me, it fits the music well :) You can listen to the track here Lyrics: October / And the trees are stripped bare / Of all they wear / What do I care / October / And kingdoms rise / And kingdoms fall / But you go on Stock credits: Overlay / Girl / The background image is one of my own. • to me I feel a real spiritual power coming through here… / it’s dark, it’s disturbing & most of all it’s a combination of natural & spiritual forces… the natural… well, created by man himself over time of abusing resources (including I)... the spiritual… well, in many ways are beyond our powers & control… some believe, some don’t & others choose to hide their beliefs, some with their beliefs choose to abuse these & in turn assists man in turn further destroying our very nature, very earth, the very place we live… but for how much longer… the fence, an object… I leave it open to your imagination as to what it represents… / it may be that of the ozone layer… / or the depleting forests & open saline grounds… / the list is endless… the defence/ the protection of this fence staying stronger for longer… / our very actions we take from here… / ________ featured in Core [C.O.R.E] 27th November & find the original of the species here: / nature of the beast /
