Image of a Mantis Shrimp taken at a dive site called Gilli Tepekong,Bali,Indonesia. This little guy which was about 100mm long was very territorial & temperamental as I was to find out.Sometimes to entice them out of their refuge you can tap the front of the hole with a stainless steel rod which we carried so as to not touch anything with our hands.Sure enough this one came marching out,had a glance at my rod & proceeded o give it several cracks with its hammer. The Mantis hammer is a lethal weapon which it uses to kill its prey, they have been known to crack fish tanks, break camera housing ports & split a thumb or two of complacent divers, very amusing little critter © All images copyright MattTworkowski
