A pile of leaves from a fall raking made for a very interesting abstract. I used the colored pencil and glass (frosted) filter in Elements to create this dark, somewhat dreamy (nightmarish maybe) effect. Light on the stems and leaves and the shadows under really added some depth to this penciled photo and took it to a level abstract that was unexpected. To view a tutorial on a similar technique, but painting in Elements 7, please visit PhotoCapM.
This is a photograph from my archives. I had forgotten that I was going to go back to it until I was looking through some folders tonight. One and half arched windows. The stone work is wonderful. Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT / Exposure: 0.008 sec (1/125) / Aperture: f/2.8 / Focal Length: 44 mm / ISO Speed: 100
Circles, circles, circles… A box fan! This the plastic grill on a standard home box fan. This was treated to 3 layers of colored pencil, 1 layer of conte’ crayon, and finally a layer of chrome. The spherical appearence was created with the sphere tool in the Render filter area. Turned out pretty cool… This is soon to be a submission to PhotographyBB’s photo assignment for Concentricity.
OK truck lovers… I’m still on my roll here and decided to provide you with a new color, BLUE. I really really like blue. This was an excellent color to work with and as has been pointed out in the past makes for great light, reflections, and shadow. I hope you enjoy number 12 in the Rugged Rig Series.
My third and final submission to PhotographyBB’s assignment: Concentricity. This is a macro SOOC and obviously the end of log of wood well weathered. When I found out that PhotographyBB assignment was “Concentricity” my first thought fell to wood. It has a natural circular pattern built in as it ages and as years pass it reveals it’s age in a perfectly circular pattern. Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT / Exposure: 0.01 sec (1/100) / Aperture: f/8.0 / Focal Length: 55 mm / ISO Speed: 400
Number 13 and a truly truly Rugged Rig. This one has absolutely seen better days. I like to call that “character”... :-). This was another collaboration with Paul Dennison (a.k.a. Wog the Photog). He photographed the truck and did the doctoring just like last time.
My Time with Him… God. I decided to try my hand at some still life. Not something I normally do, but I thought it was time to probably expand my understanding of photographic art a little. I don’t have a studio, so I had to make one using our dining room table and a black blanket as a backdrop. I shot these in middle of the night, so that I could control the light. By the way, these were shot with candle light only. I used another candle as a fill light. Anyway, I did get some wonderful photographs last night. This is one. It is amazing the results you can with being a little creative with a laser pointer and a single LED flashlight. Those are coming in color :-). In the meantime enjoy this little set of photos. Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT / Exposure: 2 / Aperture: f/5.6 / Focal Length: 33 mm / ISO Speed: 100

A Christmas card…
Photographic painting. See the article associated with this “photographic painting” on PhotoCapM.
Number 14 and 6 more to go. It turns out that white isn’t so bad after all. The last white rig I did was shaped differently and the difficulty I had with shadow and light was related to the shape of the truck. I am pretty happy with the way this turned out. I actually minimized the process to only 2 layers as opposed to 3 – 6 with this one to determine if all those layers are really needed. I’m thinking that 2 maybe just fine. At least with this one. I hope you enjoy the latest addition to the Rugged Rig Series. If you would like to see the whole set thus far here they are: The Rugged Rig Series.
