Digital painting of the Swainson variety of the Rainbow Lorikeet. This is the end result of about 14 hours, and several (9 if I recall correctly) layers, of digital painting. It’s not a photograph that was run through an art filter, but manually painted using a pen tablet and stylus. Hardware used: Wacom Bamboo Fun (Medium) / Software: TwistedBrush Pro Studio, by Pixarra.

I have a few photographs that I took of Mars during it’s recent ‘close’ flyby, the moon, Saturn, Jupiter (with three moons) and Venus. So, I decided to do a Neighborhood “Space view” of us and our nearest neighbors. I did used the Round and sphere brushes, but picky me then painted on the landmasses, ice caps, clouds and other planetary features.

Digital artwork of a Sun with it’s corona. Digital artwork created with TwistedBrush Pro Studio As requested, here is how this piece of artwork was created. I had originally wanted to try to make a digital painting similar to my Orange Sunrise Surprise But like with another artwork that started off as one thing, it wanted to become something else, so I let it. I used TwistedBrush Pro Studio. First I created a fractal image first, adjusting it until I got the corona the way I wanted it. / Then I used a lensing effect on it to create the flaring, and an empty-ish spot in the center. I used mask selection on the empty spot, inverted the selection so the ‘corona’ area was protected from alteration. I then painted some flame/fire into the unmasked area. After it was filled, I ‘spun’ it slightly to using a rotate selection tool built into the program until I got the flame pattern such as it is. Unmasked the entire image, and saved it as a TIFF. Opened file in Photoshop, proofed it, removing any aberrations or ‘bumps’ outside of the globe to make a flawless sphere in the center with clone stamp tool. Saved result is “Helios Flaring”

Sumatran tigress warns her half grown cubs away from her lunch. When I had taken this photograph it was a very bad lighting day (windy, with the foliage parting and then closing alternating from too dark to too bright), forcing me to shoot at a high ISO setting, leaving the photograph grainy. I used TwistedBrush Pro Studio to grey scale the photograph, and then draw a charcoal duplicate layer over it to boost the contrast. / .
