  • A bit of color and light over the odd rock formations known as the tesselated pavement along the Tasman PEninsula. The Tessellated Pavement is an inter-tidal rock platform – a common enough coastal landform. But here an unusual set of geological circumstances have resulted in a rare landform. The flat-lying siltstone was cracked by stresses in the Earth’s crust, roughly between 160 million years ago and 60 million years ago. The resulting cracks (joints) are seen as three main sets, one aligned to the north- northeast, a second to the east-northeast and the third to the north-northwest. This jointing, exaggerated by processes of erosion, has created the ‘tiled’ appearance. When seawater covers the rock platform, fragments of rock are carried away. Near the seaward edge of the platform, sand is the main cause of the erosion. When combined with wave action the erosional process causes ‘loaf’ or ‘pan’ formations.

  • As I stood on the bank watching this young man paddle his canoe across the lake. He seemed to be unaware of the beauty that lay behind him. This made me think about all the beauty that we behold each and every day that we simply ignore or take forgranted. Sometimes we need to just stop and really take in all of the marvelous creations around us. • “Floating on Clouds” was shot in Goulds Newfoundland Canada. This is The Dory in natural light. I was talking to a friend about shooting “The Dory” and “Floating on Clouds” and how I used a polarizer to bring out the clouds on the water (as seen here) and removed it and used a flash to shoot “The Dory”. I was wondering in hindsight what I would have come up with if I had used the polarizer and flash at the same time. I know I would have given up about up to two stops with the filter which would have meant a slower shutter speed and the boat was moving, ever so slightly, so it may not have worked out? But maybe next time, live and learn! • BEST VIEWED LARGER Thank you for your views, comments and favouritings / Right Spot – CHECK / No Boats – CHECK / Enough Cloud – CHECK / That Consistency to the Water – CHECK / Lights in varying colours – Check / Reflections on Water – Check / Run for the D300 and the tripod – DEFINITELY Caught a range of shots on this Friday morning reached my vantage point about 5.30am. I saw these reflections and ran for the camera. Sydney Harbour like a mill pond before the many vessels start their morning trips and disturbing it’s surface. The other factor is that look to the water surface that landscape photographers might know it’s like a oily look to the water that lends itself to wonderful reflective surface. It took many shots of Sydney Harbour this morning, if, and you should have seen the sunrise that followed . WAIT ! yes i have photos of that as well. Equipment: Manfrotto Tripod, Nikon D300 Nikon 18-200mm Lens / Technique: 5 Bracketted Exposures, Photomatix 3.2, Capure NX See Also / Right Place Right Time:
