  • Those of you who care, may have noticed that I have barely been uploading anything recently, this is due to a total lack of inspiration from the world of digital photography. Luckily there is a man in the office, who goes by the name of James who is equally old school, cynical and at least as much of a luddite, if not more so. So he lent me his developing equipment, chemicals and all, and told me to ‘do it properly’. So I did. Stuck some B&W Kodak 400 Tri-X in my medium format Holga and some of the same in my 35mm Hanimex and went and shot and hand developed a few rolls. Started scanning them in this evening and thought I’d post the first one up. / Suddenly I’m excited by the medium again, and I’m having fun again. Here’s a shot I took of my lady against a mirror in her favourite spotted dress, she is quite a big fan of spots you see. James, good work fella, I owe you a Mountain Goat.

  • This photo was taken one stormy night after waiting hours for the right strike. The shot was taken by hand (no tripod) and was “lightning fast”. It is an amazing sight seeing the two forks coming from the one spot. Who says lightning doesn’t strike twice?

  • My son with my brother…

  • The performance report said that he’d be out of his depth in a car park puddle. well his appraiser hadn’t been in this car park

  • it snowed yesterday… maybe spring will come twice this year!

  • lightning at midnight over the med / d80

  • A daffodil which has one stem and two identical heads. It’s a normal trumpet variety and I’ve never seen one of these with two heads. Perhaps someone who knows flowers has seen this before. I thought it was a bit special and deserved to be shared. Enjoy / /

  • This image looks better full size! I had this gorgeous shot of the St-Jacques river in La Prairie, Quebec, that I made early one morning a few weeks ago. However, the sky was cloudy and gray, with a very weak sun, making everything look flat and dull. On the other hand, there was absolutely no wind and the river was totally still with amazing reflections, so I thought I had to try something to salvage the shot. I decided to see if I could bring it to life with some post-processing effects in Photoshop. I applied a fake polarizing effect (applying gaussian blur to a duplicate layer in grayscale, then inverting and blending in overlay mode), boosted the saturation a little and played with levels and curves in adjustment layers. I also cropped and cloned out a few distracting bits in the foreground. Focal length 18mm / ISO-200 / Aperture f/4.5 / Shutter 1/80 sec. • My son-in-law has a slogan, “cut wood, will travel”...he will take others’ trees down for them and haul off the pieces for his own use. He and his friend do this together and call themselves, “The Wood Whoa’s”....... lol This is only part of his wood pile, seasoned for use this year. / He’s a hard worker and very fruitful in his labors. / In a few weeks we will have another new son-in-law… as energetic as the first. Between the two of them we will no longer live in the forest….!!!!! It is said that cutting wood will warm you twice!!!! / You betcha!!!!!

  • A shot of a big ice stick after a time in the freezer, place under cold water …it cracked up!!! I wanted to keep it for more shots, you can imagine what happened after I poured out water on it to get rid of the frost…so I tried different angles and put it over different things in the house with that result.Half white and half red…I created the heart with photoshop but the rest of the pic is untouched…just for fun…I’ve made a duo out of it called…”Pearl” / /
