H2O at Minus Twenty (Celsius): A macro study of ice crystals formed on a window pane while the temperature was -20 C outside on a sunny day. The crystals have been beautifully backlit and contrast with the shadows beyond. Taken in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada in January. Also appears in the calendar Reflections of the Seasons

inspired by the roaring twenties…. / I wasn’t to happy with parts of it and almost ready to overpaint, when my friend Laurie recommended to do a collage instead. / This is the first time I collaged all kinds of objects (old earrings etc.)other than paper onto my painting. It was so much fun, that I continued to do so with another artwork… this painting is hanging as part of the “Cosmopolitan, Bailey’s or Midori?” An exhibition of 3 artists: Midori Furze, Laurie Mc Kern and myself taking part at the Arthouse Hotel Sydney, / May 25 to June 20. / See Invitation on ‘Sydneys Guide to Exhibitions’ mixed media on canvas / 76×101cm

... but love can protect us from age. Processed six months ago – another image that has sat in ‘file 13’ for a while! Created from a photo of a dying Gardenia, blended in CS3 with a scan of on old photo (which was part of an old album purchased at a ‘flea market’.). Frame and colouring also produced in Photoshop. Acrylic on canvas / Size: 40×30 cm I completed this this afternoon while I was listening to a PD James radio play. I used a limited palette of Napthol Crimson, Permanent Sap Green and Titanium White. Shades of Modigliani crept into this one, she has quite a sad expression. The background was inspired by an old retro chiffon scarf of my mother’s,
