Watercolor of small Italian village, a typical site in the idyllic land of Tuscany.
Pastel painting done recently from a photo taken from my Tuscan Villa window during a visit to Italy a couple of years ago.
For the longest time I dreamed of a wild adventure in Italy. In April 2008 that dream became an extraordinary reality. My best friend and I flew to Italy to take photos, record organic sounds and gather information for our upcoming exhibitions. We took a wonderful photography workshop in Venice … enjoyed a cooking class in Florence and participated in an intensive painting course in Tuscany with an accomplished and well known artist. ‘Still Life’ was taken at the Fattoria San Donato (farm house) in San Gimignano. It took many kilometres in heat to finally find and photograph this famous curvy road that waves it´s way up the hill at Montichiello, Italy. Tuscany is full of amazing views and hidden gems, and this was one of them.
Firenze on a tranquil spring afternoon. This is the only time I have managed to see the River Arno calm enough to capture reflections. It is certainly in direct contrast to the hustle and bustle traversing the River on The Ponte Vecchio, where the glistening jewels in the shop windows don’t measure up to the beauty of the renaissance city itself.
Tuscany
May is poppy time in Tuscany: everywhere you go in the countryside there are fields of them looking fabulous. For these, I didn’t have to go far – just over the wall of our terrace into the field below the house. This shot is straight from the camera, taken this morning, 22 May 2009 looking into the morning sun. Canon1DMkII with Canon 70-200mm f4L IS lens at 96mm and Canon EF25 tube; ISO200 f10 1/640 Best viewed large.

Location: Crete Senesi, Tuscany, Italy The Crete Senesi was one of my favorite area to drive by in Tuscany. Crete Senesi are literally ‘Siennese clays’ and the distinctive grey colouration of the soil gives the landscape an appearance often described as lunar. This characteristic clay, known as mattaione, represents the sediments of the Pliocene sea which covered the area between 2.5 and 4.5 million years ago. In the nearby is also the semi-arid area known as Accona Desert.
