  • It is absolutely important not to ignore your tree when you go out if you are a turtle! If necessary, take it with you. All miniature bonsai turtle trees enjoy a good swim. Not only is the marine environment excellent for their sodiumphylic leaves, but the very fact of being taken to new and interesting places causes them to bear strange fruit.

  • Angel Tears
    by Craig Goldsmith

    US$3.99–US$106.40

This shot was taken on the streets of Paris (yes a lot of my images are from my trip, I just saw too many beautiful things not to share). In this shot the Cherub seems to be alone or lost, and the falling drops from the fountain above I thought were like Angel Tears, tears for the little one they couldn’t find.

  • Lady Elliot Magic
    by gardenofbeeden

    US$5.70–US$152.00

I was lucky enough to spend nearly an hour swimming alongside this juvenille green turtle (Chelonia mydas) on the fringing reef at Lady Elliott Island in the Southern part of the Great Barrier Reef. Lady Elliott is a beautiful island that is home to a wide variety of marine life and seabirds. Best of all the resort is reasonably priced fairly basic accommodation unlike most of the rest of the island resorts in the GBR. If you get the chance then Lady Elliott is well worth the trip. During my week long visit I would have seen more than >10 green turtles, hatchlings on the beach, sharks, rays, gourpers and a myriad of other reef fish. The coral reef on the other side of the island is spactacular with huge plate (Acropora sp.) corals everywhere. It is truly magic.

  • Turtlemother
    by Helena Nelson-Reed

    US$3.56–US$95.00

Watercolor, original available. / Turtles are important totems in both Native American and old Celtic traditions, symblizing wisdom, health, a good old age, women, fertility, maturity, discretion, and power. An Afghan friend’s mother told me that in her home village pregnant and nursing women sometimes ate a turtle heart for strength, and in Asia turtles are symbols of longevity. One day in early spring I was driving home and spotted an oddly shaped mound of weeds and mud piled in the middle of the street. As I approached the mound materialized into a giant snapping turtle with a mound of dripping silt and newly sprouted weeds upon its shell. The creature must have awakened from hibernation in the nearby riverbank and was migrating to a nearby retention pond. This is a high traffic area so I got out of my car and tried to help her cross, but the turtle leaned back on her left side, turned to gaze up into my eyes…and hissed. She easily measured the distance from my elbow to fingertip, with claws and eyes large and yellow, matching the dandelions on her shell. I followed at a respectful distance, holding cars at bay until the she reached the opposite curb safely. As she clambered up and over the curb, she paused to look at me once more, right in the eye. Her gaze was steadily and a bit weary as if to say “Oh. You’re STILL here?” She just stared at me, and I stared back. This went on for a moment or so, then without further ado she turned and continued on, toward the pond. Ive heard that turtles who migrate in my area are male, but this one had the air of a stately matriarch. I went home and painted, wanting to honor her beauty and strength before the memory and desire faded. That’s why the details may not be accurate, I painted what impressed me most, and the imagery as it appeared when focusing on recollection and experience only. In older traditions turtle carries the earth upon on her shell, just as she’d carried the dripping burden of river mud and plants earlier that day. If I were this turtle, here is the power song I’d sing: / / “A turtle mother, this big heart of mine is enduring, this heart is wise, this heart is strong, this heart is a drum. This old heart sounds a tattoo in harmony with the ancient heart of Earth herself. My ear close to the ground, I listen to our two hearts beating in tandem; ancient land, ancient turtle. I fulfill my purpose within the great hoop of season, tide, sun, moon and stars. I hear much, and say little. I live in a quiet manner, a sacred manner, a patient manner; I live in a dignified manner, my heart close to Earth.” Text copyright Helena Nelson – Reed. Please do not reproduce without permission.

  • ©2004 Sara Montour I haven’t uploaded a lot of new photos lately. I’m super busy, but I definitely miss the RedBubble community and am hoping to be more involved. Fridays are a relatively slow day for me, so perhaps that will be my RedBubble day. I took this photo in 2004 when I lived in Ireland. We spent the day by the beach and were very ready to head back home. We finally got all the way back to the car and I saw this little toy and said “hold on! We can’t leave yet! I have an idea!” I ran back to the beach and took this shot and several others.

  • Lo Shu Turtle
    by energymagic

    US$5.36–US$142.88

Around 4,000 years ago a turtle appeared in the river Lo and on its shell were nine clusters of circular markings. The numbers were arranged in such a way that each line added up to 15. The markings on the back of the turtle were in fact a magic square. This square is used as a basis for all flying star feng shui and this turtle is particularly auspicious. The earth energy represented in this print suggests it would be well placed in the north-east, southwest, west and northwestern walls. It also offers strength and support if placed behind you at your desk. / /
