A nomad. Had come to Finland from far away North-Africa. It landed on a flower and I went closer and was ready to take a photo. Instead of just taking a picture it took me four hours making friends with this personality until I could get close enough to take any photo with macro lens. After that I could go as close as I needed to, and the admiral stayed still even when the lens occasionally touched it. I spent 4 rolls of Fuji Velvia 100. Got one good shot. I think the result was worth the effort.
Warm and sunny evening in a national park with my wife-to-be on May 1, 2005. Hiking in the forest and planning to stay overnight in a tent, while everybody else in whole Finland is drunk celebrating May 1st in the city or at home. I make fire and we sit down to have a bottle of champaign and make a toast… well, the story ends here, but before my glass was empty, I took a photo of fire (embers) through a glass which had few drops of champaign on the inside surface of the glass. This small crop of a photo (3×4cm), in all colors of “firechampaign”, is cloned ca. 150 times. Then every piece is rotated, moved and blended with each other. Original size is 60×90cm and printed on canvas.
Gediminas, the founder of Vilnius, the Capital of Lithuania. He was a cosmopolitan who opened the gates of the city to everybody, regardless of nationality, race or religion. In the 14th century, Vilnius was one of the most developed cities in Europe. It had one of the first universities in Europe. Story tells that Gediminas decided to establish the city after seeing in his dream a wolf howling at the top of a hill. I have not read any explanation for this story, but my guess is that Gediminas interpreted his dream as a sign to call all kinds of people to develop a better city. In the same way as a wolf howls to gather his pack.
Early summer morning. Dew drops reflect light. Humidity makes colors rich. Simplicity. Natural beauty. Caught on Fuji Velvia 100.

Featured in the 12 Great Features group. C is for Cobweb / Added to RB July 17th, 2009 Walking along the Aurajoki (joki = river) in Turku, Finland I saw this giant Cobweb across the river. Turku (Swedish: Åbo) (pronounced [ˈturku]), is a city situated on the southwest coast of Finland at the mouth of Aura river. It is located in the region of Finland Proper in the Province of Western Finland. It is believed that Turku came into existence during the end of 13th century which makes it the oldest city in Finland. Turku was for a long time the most important population center in Finland: it was the first capital city of Finland from 1809 to 1812 and continued to be the largest city by population in Finland until the end of 1840s. Nowadays its significance nationwide is not the same as it used to be, but Turku is still a regional capital and important location for business and culture. Because of its long history it has been the site of many important historical events and has extensively influenced Finnish history. During the year 2011 Turku has been designated to be the European Capital of Culture together with Tallinn, the capital city of Estonia. In 1996 it was declared the official Christmas City of Finland. Due to its location, Turku is a notable commercial and passenger seaport city with over three million passengers travelling through Port of Turku each year to Stockholm and Mariehamn. As of March 31, 2009 Turku’s population was 175,738, which makes it the fifth largest city in Finland by population. As of 31 August 2008 there were 303,492 inhabitants living in the Turku sub-region, which makes it the third largest urban area in Finland after the Greater Helsinki area and Tampere sub-region. The city is officially bilingual as 5.2 percent of its population identify as speaking Swedish as a mother-tongue.
