I was chasing a hot air balloon across south east Lincolnshire trying to get close enough for a decent picture of it when I spotted some wind turbines at Deeping St Nicholas. The sun was going down so I decided to take some pictures of these instead (never did get close enough to that balloon) this is my favorite one of the series. BTW I never appreciated just how HUGE they are, I managed to walk across the fields right up to one and climbed its steps… I felt like an ant next to it.
Some people complain about these wind turbines as they say that they are a blot on the landscape… But I think they are far more attractive than the vast network of electricity pylons that litter our landscape This is the second of my series of three shots of the wind farm at Deeping St Nicolas in south east Lincolnshire.

A stunning Scottish sunset behind a wind farm near Thurso on Scotlands North coast. The low lying fog really sets the turbines off. One of my favourites.

Background Information: / A wind turbine is a rotating machine which converts the kinetic energy in wind into mechanical energy. If the mechanical energy is used directly by machinery, such as a pump or grinding stones, the machine is usually called a windmill. If the mechanical energy is then converted to electricity, the machine is called a wind generator, wind turbine, wind power unit (WPU), wind energy converter (WEC),or aerogenerator. This article discusses electric power generation machinery. Windmill discusses machines used for grain-grinding, water pumping, etc. The article on wind power describes turbine placement, economics and public concerns. The wind energy section of that article describes the distribution of wind energy over time, and how that affects wind-turbine design. See environmental concerns with electricity generation for discussion of environmental problems with wind-energy production. [Double Exposure Project #1 – Oregon and San Diego Exposed] This is one of the images produced through double exposing a roll of film with my amazingly talented, generous, and dear friend Matt Adamik. This was our first attempt at working with this process and I am in love with every image. Matt lives in Oregon and I live in San Diego. He shot the roll first, mailed it to me, and I shot over top his photos. Neither of us knew what the other was shooting. The results are astounding and breathtaking. And fun! We will be collaborating on many more double exposure projects in the very near future. A wonderful way to bring Oregon and San Diego together, as well as the styles and friendships of two photographers. I am absolutely in love with this type of photography! I highly recommend it for everyone. Thank you Matt for everything! Goggles Down! /

One of many wind turbines springing up around the country (it is a very windy country after all!). A lot of people hate them, but I’m not quite sure what makes these so unacceptable compared to the many traditional windmills that are so loved in my part of the world. They’re just a modern version with a different purpose, but effectively they’re the same! ps if anyone’s interested, the texture used in this is the base of my mum’s marmalade-making pan :-)

Won the One Plus Sky challenge – November 8, 2009 Photo taken July 19, 2009 at the Kent Hills Wind Farm just outside Moncton, New Brunswick. It currently consists of 32 wind turbines. These things are huge! I climbed the stairs to the service door and looked up. This is probably my favourite shot of the day because these 2 blades look like arms embracing the wind and (hopefully) the future of better energy sustainability. One of the turbines recently caught fire, causing approximately $5 000 000 in damage.
