Harriet Tubman was one of the foremost conductors on the Underground Railroad bringing an estimated 400 people out of slavery in the South and guiding them to freedom in the Northern part of America and on to Canada. During the Civil War she was a guide and scout for the Union Army. After the war she started a home for indigent, emancipated slaves. She is a true hero of American history.
