One of my favourite “Scapes” / Taken when the surf was huge in May 2005 /
“The warning came too late…..no place to hide. We were down by the beach taking happy holiday snaps when the ocean started to recede. It took me a moment or two to realise what was about to happen. Everyone started to panic…..I could hardly hold a thought in my head with the sound of my heart beating and the adrenalin pumping through my veins. Then I remembered the cave we discovered at the end of the beach yesterday. That would be our only hope as we started to run. As we entered the cave I took one last look as the Tsunami hit….” Macro photograph taken from a palm tree, overcast day, camera set on aperture priority. Macro photography of bark, rocks and flowers are my passion. Always looking for that special ‘something’ thats a little bit different. Hope you enjoy my story and photograph!

Abstract
Illustration board, gesso and acrylic. A tweak here and there on picnik. BEST IF VIEWED LARGE! This was my first attempt at using gesso and I loved creating texture. I painted this in December of 2004 immediately after the Tsunami. The water colored hues were not intentional and just kind of happened. When I finished I couldn’t believe what I saw. A representation of the Tsunami. This was also the same year my dad died, April 18th, 2004 so originally I called this painting A Traumatic Decade. It was one more painting that showed the beginnings of working through my dad’s death. This is actually a crop of the original painting because in the bottom right hand corner, two rectangular shapes also appeared. They were vertical and looked like the Twin Towers and were painted in red, again unknowingly at the time. I think the red represented the lives that were lost on September 11, 2001. I did not keep them in this version because the right side of the painting was so dark they kind of got lost. The cropping of the painting caused me to change the title to just Tsunami 2004 because that was the focal point of the painting. And to me it shows the power of the unconscious mind in art. I was working through traumas happening over all over the world, and trying to make sense of tragedy. A long story but one that I think is important as you view the work for yourself. Perhaps not even one of my best, but powerful in mind and the healing impact of art in my life!

GABRIELLE WRESTLES THE DEVIL / Acrylic Glazing on gesso ed Masonite I realized as I struggled to depict the angelic forces fighting for our good that I erroneously kept wanting to use OUR physical bodies to represent the confrontations…..so I got still and asked to be shown….HELLO…, / Of coarse!Their bodies are fluid in form.I then understood why it was critical they maintain the highest of thoughts in principals…because when in battle the two bodies become like one at the 1st level…and the onslaught is fierce…the attempt is of the dark forces to erode to the molecular level and “overtake”..hence,I got the importance of the encouragement to ’’Armor’’ our-selves daily and protect our thoughts and words. My sense of the fighting with Dark Forces/(devil) is it is like ’’friction’‘(opposition) which would feel hot, like getting burned(sun burns or flames).Sure would feel ’’like hell’’..... / I actually set out to paint bubbles,(really!),but this kept spinning out and I had to listen to the painting and follow where it wanted to go….. Fever pitched, I painted 24+ hours non-stop until completing and naming it.I didn’t understand what the message could be…then, / With in 2 days we had the tsunami disaster.

As per J.K’s suggestion. The jungle in it’s true colour. The original I showed as black and white… You decide which you like best : 0 ) After the Tsunami in Thailand they left the destroyed boats on the Hong Islands as a reminder of the loss of life and destruction that had happened. The jungle now takes over…
“Tsunami” was featured in The Patchwork (July 7 2009). Pastel abstract manipulated in ACDSee Pro 2.5.
