the arizona desert can be a harsh place to drive, especially 50 years ago…radiators would overheat, tires would swell and go flat and the lack of air conditioning would test the endurance of the most hardy…then, after almost 1800 miles, there were the mountains…route 66 reached the mountains in western arizona…here the going got even worse…switch backs up and over and down would put a worthy vehicle to the test…there at the base was cool springs, the last oasis before heading up and over…here you could get fresh water, a cool drink and have the car looked over before the grueling climb toward california…pictured here was the alternative…for those unable to make it, their only hope was to be towed back to the start and get patched up for another try…

Red Rooster Winery, Naramata, British Columbia, Canada – August 2008 My Dear Friend, Jean-Louis, suggested re-shooting poor ol’ Rusty here in HDR so here he is…............. I’m pretty sure he is a cousin to Trudi’s “Road to Nowhere”............ I hope to be able to afford new tires for Rusty soon so I can drive home my fresh supply of wine from the Wine Country! LOL! An old IH truck lies neglected in a farm near the Huonville Highway, Tasmania. IH (International Harvester) is often remembered as a maker of relatively successful and innovative “light” line of vehicles, competing directly against the Big 3. The most common were pick-up trucks. IH made light trucks from 1907 to 1975. The final Light Line truck was made on May 5, 1975. There are many enthusiast clubs devoted to IH vehicles and I’m sure that they’d like to know about this old girl. Canon 40D 18-55 IS…....... tone-mapped then age processed.
