As dawn breaks on a low tide revealing an incredible array of tidal sand patterns. Won the White…White…White Challenge in the group “You’re Accepted” in August 2009 Won the THE MOST BEAUTIFUL TAIL FEATHERS Challenge in the group “I love Birds” in May 2009 The White Peacock, contrary to popular belief is not an albino, because its eyes are blue, not pink. The white is a color mutation, and although it can carry other genes, such as the blackshoulder and white-eyed, they are not visible because of its completely white color. Males are, as their name implies, completely white. Faint eyespots can be distinguished in the train by a thin layer of off white that surrounds the ocelli. The actual seeing eyes of the birds are blue.It is speculated there may be a few white peafowl bred naturally in India. White was one of the first variations to be discovered and made popular, and has been around for many years. This was taken in the José Celestino Mutis Botanical Garden, Bogotá, Colombia.

Pouring rain forced us off the beach at Direction Island and into the shelter of the forest. Our senses were buzzing with the sound of rain and waves, the rich saturated colours and the scent of summer rain. / Direction Island is a much-loved anchorage for yachties, cocos locals and visitors, but no one lives there permanently. American White Ibis, Eudocimus albus is a species of wading bird of the ibis family Threskiornithidae which occurs from the mid-Atlantic coast of the United States south through most of the New World tropics. It occurs in marshy wetlands and pools near the coast. It also occurs on mowed grass, lawns, and has become common in some city parks, where it can be found feeding alone or with other Ibis. It builds a stick nest in trees, bushes, or over water, and 2 to 5 eggs are typically laid. White ibises are monogamous and colonial, usually nesting in mixed colonies with other wading species. This ibis feeds by probing with its long, downcurved beak. Its diet consists of various fish, frogs and other water creatures, as well as insects and small reptiles. Adults are 65 cm long with a 95 cm wingspan. They have all-white plumage except for black wingtips (visible in flight) and reddish bills and legs. The red bill blends into the face of breeding birds; non-breeding birds show a pink to red face. Juveniles are largely brown with duller bare parts; they are distinguished from the Glossy and White-faced Ibises by white underparts and rumps. Over all both sexes look alike. Like the other species of ibis, the White Ibis flies with neck and legs outstretched, often in long, loose lines. The song of the male is an advertising hunk-hunk-hunk-hunk. The female squeals. When feeding, the birds often give a soft, grunting croo, croo, croo as they forage. / In my goal to portray women in all guises and emotions, here is the latetst addition to the collection..”The Temptation”....we all know what the feeling…temptation comes in many disguises…is she the temptress, or has she been tempted?make of her what you will… / When I was halfway through painting it, I remembered a picture I had seen in a magazine advertising lipstick….the model had her fingers on the open lips…. I thought they would be a perfect addititon to the painting, but I needed to see them again, just to be sure…. I frantically dug through my recycling bin (luckily we are having a garbage strike and everthing is still here) and found the picture…..the fingers were just what I needed…it was apparent that the picture had been buried in my subconscious, just waiting to emerge in this painting….I made the modifications to the image and here it is Acrylic and watercolour on Fabriano Paper.. I believe the correct name for this gardenia is Gardenia lamingtonia. / Two forms are known, a large flower and a smaller. / G. tubifera is five petaled and has wider, ovate petals with downturned tips. From sepals to bloom face its throat measures 3-4 inches. It is a small tree from up to 15 feet with infrequent, sparse blossom set. G. lamingtonia grows to 20 feet with very heavy bloom set every 2-3 months in Hawai’i. An outstanding and beautiful Gardenia from Thailand cultivated here on Maui. They open with rich creamy white single flowers which turn bright orange as they age. It is a great bloomer that is in full display twice a year on the islands. It has a beautiful fragrance. They must be kept from cold and need full sun to bloom best. These large shrub is growing naturalized in Lower Nahiku. / It is a rare collectible plant. A 4 ” pot will cost from $18.00 to $30.00. Some of the flowers are up to 4” wide. This large, rounded shrub can be trained into a small tree, maintainable to a height under 10 feet. Acid, organic and fertile soil are necessary for healthy plants They produce large, single golden yellow flowers. Flowers change colour while maturing from ivory through golden yellow to orange-yellow. The wonderful fragrance is very strong. They bloom in spring onward.
