This dreamy glade in Pisgah National Forest, North Carolina, gave me the feeling of being in two worlds at once – the “normal” world we live in and also a world filled with faeries, gnomes and is that a troll hiding in the forest?? I added the Orton effect with PhotoShop to give it an even more dream-like quality and enhanced the colors. This was taken in the early morning hours just after the sun rose. The Parting – A Troll’s Tear Revised 2008 Edition Background / Breaking up is never easy. But for a prince who was to marry the hottest little princess across three kingdoms, being turned into a troll by an angry old witch can really ruin one’s future prospects. The tale began with that infamous idea, “it seemed like a good idea at the time”. But of course karma has a way of teaching us that many of our “bright ideas” turn out to have unpalatable consequences, which we may have uncovered had we thought them through . . . just a little more. His Story / It was just another early morning hunting trip with the “lads” (a few rowdy knaves from the castle). A chance to brag, boast, kill some time and avoid the rather sombre duties of daily castle life. The scene was set in one of the darker corners of an extensive forest that ran off from the south-west of his father’s castle. After encountering no game all morning, our prince was keen to once again show off his prowess with bow and shaft. A movement in the shadows caught his attention. In an instant a gilded shaft with bright blue feathers was loosed from his royal bow. The fatal shot struck what he thought was just another wolf in the woods. Alas, the wolf was a witch’s familiar, and in retribution the witch transformed the prince into a somewhat loathsome creature of the night, ever to be fearful of the sun. Many a Wizard has since tried to remove the curse and failed. So our spell-bound prince now dwells in a mind state poised between hope and despair, unsure whether his humanity will ever be restored. Her Story / Three years earlier, she was to be wed to a handsome, very wealthy and perhaps at times somewhat impetuous young prince. He would have been a good catch, as far as princes go. Then there was that unfortunate little incident in the woods. She had told him that morning that they needed to finish the invitations for the wedding, but oh no . . . “prince prowess” had to take his long sword and his big bow and go a-hunting with the lads! In the years since, she has been patient, faithful, tolerant (his bad breath was, well, challenging) and then still more patient. But now, she wanted desperately to get on with her life and preferably while she is still a desirable young princess. It was a tough call, but the time had come to say goodbye. The Phantom Anthony Boy I shot this image on June 12, 2008 during my trip to Monterey, CA…….the structure in the background is the Monterey Boat Works…….The Anthony Boy has been “high and dry” for quite a few years and has become a local landmark; her fishing days are long since gone. I have always wanted to do something special with this beautiful old fishing boat and this is the first in what may become a series. I hope you enjoy this image; thank you all for viewing my images. The following is where you can see a photo of the building of the Anthony Boy and the launching…......You will have to copy and paste this. http://www-marine.stanford.edu/boatworks/index.html / Anthony Boy being built [image by Philip Doezema] / Anthony Boy 1966 [image by Philip Doezema] / Anthony Boy at launch [image by Philip Doezema] / / ____ / All The Materials Contained May Not Be Reproduced, Copied, Edited, Published, Transmitted Or Uploaded In Any Way Without My Permission. Actually, I never named my troll until today. This troll has sentimental value as my mom (now passed away) bought him for me during a trip to Vegas sometime in the 1990s. He hangs out on my book case (as if he owns the shelf). I shot this earlier this month during a spontaneous moment. Since my “Boo” and “Gumby” shots were so favored I thought I’d add this one, too. I hope you see the humor in Theo. I played with the selective coloring to make it more eye-popping. :)
I had some time to get out in the back field tonight. I was picking up pears and apples before the deer moved in to eat them up.. I had a chance also to pick up a few sticks that fall from the winds .. As I was bending down next to this big old tree I heard a snuckle sound.. Hard to put into words.. So its a snuckle. I looked closer and there was this Root Troll who had crawled into a tree root cavern. I walked away like I did not see him.. Went to get my camera because I knew that my friends on RB would never believe my story without proof… Well upon my return I found him fast asleep. I got down real low and pulled the flash up and fired away.. Well he woke up on the first flash and the second caught him good. He started rooting around if you know what I mean so I had to leave before his eyes came back to normal so he could then see.. I did not want him coming up to where I rest and scaring the crap out of me.. I think I am safe putting this up on RB.. He does not look like the type to get online.. Then he may want to fine me for posting his picture without permission.. Please do not ask me to let you come over to take his picture.. I think he helps the deer clean the apples and pears up..
