  • My daughter and her fella, taking a break after getting stuck into the garden. / Thought I’d give the new 580EXII flash and it’s IR triggering a run with ETTL. I normally use radio triggers in manual mode and not IR ETTL, so this side of things is all a bit new at the moment. I’m sure I’ll get to like it, especially once I get my new Pocket Wizard Flex and Mini units soon. • Another shot from this weeks trip with the talented Tony Middleton Donovan Wilson and Robert Mullner . Visited Toorongo Falls first then Amphitheatre Falls before heading further upstream until we came to this spot where these small plants (Trigger Plant – Styledium armeria I think) had grown on the trunk of a still living fern that had been felled by flood waters. Camera: Canon EOS 5D mkII / Lens: EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM @ 25mm / Filters: Circular Polarizer / ISO: 100 / Shutter Speed: 5 sec / Aperture: f/22 / WB: Auto / Exposure Compensation: -1 and 1/3rd of a stop / When: 12:23pm on 2/7/09 To check out other shots from this area see my Yarra Valley gallery. 10% of all profits go to the Wilderness Society

  • Trigger plant .. Stylidium graminifolium. / This Australian wildflower is so small that most people would only notice the bright pink colour without seeing the amazing delicate trigger mechanism designed to transfer pollen. There were a few of these on the Hanging Rock walking track (Buradoo fire trail, I think) in the Blue Mountains National Park. / The constant breeze made it difficult to get this little fella in good focus. Thankfully, I have a little patience. For the macro groups this flower is about 1 cm wide.
