This is my tribute to Muntazer al-Zaidi. The legendary journalist who threw his shoe at George W Bush during his farewell visit to Iraq. Clearly it is based on Banksy’s “Flower Chucker” stencil which is based on a photo from the 1968 riots in Paris. I’ve tried to keep it faithful to both Banksy and Muntazer by illustrating his head as close as possible to the original press conference image, in the style of “Flower Thrower”. I also illustrated the shoe to fit his hand just nicely and added a bit of definition to the fingers. Love to know what you think. Good riddance George Dubbaya. Muntazer al-Zaid may be the thrower, but you certainly are the tosser. / / / / / / /

This is done as a salute to all firefighters. I took this with my 35mm Canon EOS Rebel XS, this was off the very first roll of film i ever put in the camera. These particular firefighters are part of the Fairfax County, VA fire department. :)

This is my tribute to one of the most innovative films I´ve ever seen in years. / The Pillow Book is a 1996 film by UK director Peter Greenaway; main character is Nagiko, a Japanese model. / “The film is a rich and artistic melding of dark modern drama with idealized Chinese and Japanese cultural themes and settings, and centers around body painting.” / “As a young girl in Japan, Nagiko’s father paints characters on her face, and her aunt reads to her from “The Pillow Book”, the diary of a 10th-century lady-in-waiting. Nagiko grows up, obsessed with books, papers, and writing on bodies, and her sexual odyssey (and the creation of her own Pillow Book) is a “parfait mélange” of classical Japanese, modern Chinese, and Western film images.” Well, for those who haven´t seen this film, I highly recommend it. A brief of this film can be found here). Main female figure with clothes and accesories and props conform a cinema4D render; the rest was done in postwork by blending photo-layers and a bit of digital painting.
There are few things in life as valuable as a good father, not just to each of us personally, but to the society as a whole. They keep us on the right path and lead by example. I love to dance so these boogey-woogey bluebirds are right up my alley! They were really cutting the rug this morning on the nesting box. I’d like to dedicate this image to Mrs. Claire LeBauve who passed away recently. She was a cracker jack dancer who lit up the room when she stepped onto the dance floor. Like her family, I truly believe she’s dancing in heaven and still sharing her deep-dimpled smile and her joy with everyone around her. Laissez les bon temps rouler, Ms. Claire! (I think she’d approve of the quote I added; a little bit of craziness never hurt anyone!) For the rest of the story, please see the accompanying Journal Entry
