  • The trestle bridge at Lethbridge was completed by the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1909. Spanning 1.6 kilometres across the steep banks of the Oldman River at a maximum height of 314 feet, it is the longest and highest bridge of its kind in North America. The bridge is symbolic of the engineering challenges the railway faced in its bid to provide the Canadian West with a rail service. / Alberta, Canada Canon 400D / Sigma 10-20mm / FEATURED in Canon DSLR (01 06 09) / FEATURED in Rural Canada Coast to Coast Pre 1960’s (01 22 09) / FEATURED in Rural Around The Globe (02 23 09)

  • The trestle bridge at Noojee in Victoria Australia. There were many trestle bridges built and used for traversing valleys and gullys when transporting timber by tramways through timber forests around the turn of the 20th century in Gippsland Victoria. This image was shot as we were travelling late in the afternoon from attending my fathers 80th birthday party at Noojee. Pentax K-200D – 200 iso – set at 23.5mm with 18-55mm lens – 1/20 sec – f5.6

  • This long, curved, trestle bridge is one of several that were built by manual labour to carry the railway track through the karri forests of the south west of Western Australia, some 350 kms south of Perth. Nowadays trains are not used to transport the logged trees but the rail track is in daily use by a tourist tram that takes trippers on a wonderful 2 hour journey through this delightful forest. We have done this trip several times and never tire of it.

  • I took this back in June and played with different techniques, but settled on Amazing Orton Effect. The old steam train Puffing Billy runs across this on a daily basis. It is one of the best Victoria Icons for the young or young at heart. The only downfall is the soot in your face as you hang out the windows. Of course the true train fanatic(my brother) would say that was the best bit. “The historic 1899 vintage Puffing Billy Railway Trestle Bridge / This location was recently incorporated into the Sherbrooke Forest National Park. The bridge, situated at Selby in The Dandenong Ranges, some 26.5 miles by rail east Of Melbourne, carries the Puffing Billy Heritage Narrow-Gauge (2’6”) Railway over the Monbulk Creek and is part of a working railway that now carries considerably more traffic than in it’s prime working era of the first 30 years of the 20th century”. (Taken from the Friends of the Trestle Bridge Web site) This is one image I would like to do as my first HDR, just have to get back and take those shots to do it from scratch!

  • Kilcunda trestle bridge. This bridge right next to the beach used to carry the coal train from the Wonthaggi coal mine. /

  • An old train bridge near Pyalong (North of Melbourne, Australia). Shot with red filter on traditional infrared film which was then processed to emphasize the grain structure. The image itself was duo-toned to approximate the look of a traditional sepia/selenium split toning, which seems to go well with the texture of the wood and the foggy surroundings.

  • The remains of the old rail trestle bridge that crosses the Curdies River at Timboon in the Otway Ranges of Victoria. Trestle Railway Bridge / The Rail Bridge over Curdies River, Curdies Siding, Timboon, was constructed in 1892 on the Timboon-Camperdown Line by Buscombe, Chappell & Bell for the Victorian Railways. It is a single track, 31 span timber trestle bridge spanning the river and flood plain with a variety of two and four pile pier types, with and without stay piles. The trestles are constructed of large diameter timber bush poles bolted together, with sawn timber superstructure and footway, employing traditional and utilitarian bridge and wharf building techniques. The footway was removed c.1920 and the line has been discontinued. The Rail Bridge is historically significant in that it was erected to facilitate development of the Heytesbury area, and providing a line of communication with the coastal town at Port Campbell. The railway gave access to markets for local industries, including the creamery and butter factory. It is architecturally significant as a notable example of timber trestle bridge construction, which demonstrates a distinctive and presently rarely used construction method that utilised the best qualities of the native bush timbers. Constructed of local Heytesbury forest timber, the bridge illustrates vernacular bridge building traditions of the late nineteenth century, displaying a variety of two and four pile pier types. It is one of the few surviving railway structures of this type in Victoria. Pentax K20D Camera. / Edited in ACDSee Pro3 My Bubblesite showcases images in their categories. A Canadian Pacific Railway train pulling coal cars across the High Level Bridge Bridge in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. The train clearly illustrates the massive scale of the bridge. The High Level Bridge crossing the Oldman rRiver in Lethbridge, Alberta is Canada’s longest rail structure. This year marks it’s 100th anniversary. Captured with a Kodak EasyShare M1033.

  • Railway and streetcar tracks atop the High Level Bridge, Edmonton, Canada. These tracks are on the upper of two decks, the lower of which carries automotive traffic and pedestrians. The span in the photo is just under 2900 feet (877m), is about 175 feet (21m) above the river and was opened for service in 1913, connecting the then independent communities of Strathcona and Edmonton. Although commercial rail traffic ceased in 1989, a streetcar now traverses the bridge in the summer months. 117 views as of December 3, 2009 Featured in No More Color October 2009 / Featured in Which Way November 2009 / Featured in Who Needs Color For Beauty?
