So I’m back from my brief holiday to Uluru, Alice Springs and Kings Canyon. 2000+ photos later and I never want to look at a big red rock ever again! But seriously, I had a great time. I embraced the nothingness of being in the middle of nowhere and made heaps of friends around campfires and on tour buses. I’ve come back with bunches of email addresses and the business cards of some great artists and other friendly folk. I thought being away would allow me to comtemplate life, the universe and everything, but found that instead it allowed me to swtich off for a while and not think about anything too hard. It was fantastic. When’s my next holiday? / Me riding a camel with my friend Christine. My mother and sister are on the one behind us / Just a bit of prettiness from the base of Uluru / Me being a tourist in Alice Springs at the Sunday Market Of course now I’m back in Melbourne where it is colder and I have to pick up where I left off. Thankful that I still have some annual leave up my sleeve, I’ve got some time to pursue other interests and ventures… and catch up with all you wonderful people on the bubble. So, what’s being going on while I was away?

How incredibly cool! Thank you so much to the person who just bought a mounted print of “Circle of Friends” As you most likely know this is a sentimental piece to me as it is dedicated to a very special group of friends who I originally met through the internet some years ago but who I have been blessed enough to meet (most of them) in person. These people have seen me through good times and bad, supported me, nurtured me, growled at me when I was in need of it ;) and always been just a phone call or a mouse click away whenever I have needed them. In return I would like to think that I have given back as much love as they all have given me over the years. So this time round, my thanks need to go not only to the buyer, but also to my wonderful T family who inspired this capture. THANKYOU!!!

What a week on redbubble !! I’d just like to express my overwhelming joy and thanks to ALL in the RB community. / My week has been full of highlights and Blessings firstly with “The Covenant”being featured on the Art page. Secondly the sale of two cards of ‘The Covenant’ and ‘Blades on the Locks’, then my image ” The Broken Vessel” being chosen as the avatar for Living Christianity. To top it all off, I opened up redbubble to find that “The Covenant”had made the Home Page!! / I would like to offer my very sincere thanks to everybody who took the time to view “The Covenant” and make ALL those wonderful comments, it really is very overwhelming and somewhat humbling to have such beautiful and genuine comments from a community of very talented people, here on RB !!! / I would also like to express my thanks to those who voted for “The Broken Vessel”, it is real joy to be able to represent the group, like that !! / In regard to “The Covenant” it really was one of those Divine appointments where i was in the right place at the right time to capture “The Magic of the Moment” / The image was taken just after a rainstorm, towards sunset at the close of a rather hot, humid, stormy summer’s day near Geelong, Australia. / Once again thankyou for your wonderful support, / Phil T.

/ The Big 30…30,000 views!!! WOW! I’m feeling old! LOL! No really, it’s great…no actually it’s fantastic! Thank you to each and every one who has become a part of my life, my views and even my artwork itself. Here are some of my favorite highlights since the last ten thousand miles… The biggest news I probably have to announce is the publishing of my artwork in “Artists of The West” book! It is a true milestone for me and a great personal success. It was an amazing project to be involved in and over a three year journey. I ended up making some great friends and contacts along the way and really bonded with everyone involved in the book. / After the release of the book there was some really exciting events to follow like the first book signing in St. Helens with the official release. / I am also doing a public book signing, autographs and a special unveiling of three of my new paintings at the Astoria Sunday Market later this month. The Astoria Sunday Market / / (Feel free to shoot me an e-mail if you’re interested or would like more information on the event) Also I am VERY excited to be a part of the RedBubble Rialto Towers art exhibit ironically also on July 27th the same date of my book signing in Astoria, Oregon! My work First Tree was chosen along with 40 other works of art to show in the foyer of the Rialto Towers for a two week art show! I am honored and thrilled to be showing my work alongside the other amazing artists and my RedBubble friends! I was also a part of some wonderful collaborations My collaboration piece Through The Past To The Future with my friend Michael Gatch was a total success and incredibly fun! It was inspired by his photo Through The Past / We had such a good time we did another one… / Apple Harvest which was inspired by Michael’s photo Old Apple When I looked at this work I saw the tree as the point of life that was celebrated and brought people and family together. I wanted to I take it back in time or to another time perhaps. I also had a fantastic collaboration with my dear friend Paul Hobday / I was really inspired by his photo Twisted and had a vision of what eventually became…The Other Side Of The Fence my newest work. Again THANK YOU to each of you who took the time to view my work, comment on my work and invest into me and my career. My art work is the road in this life that I have chosen to make a living on and really…it is my life. In each painting or drawing I create I try to leave a bit of myself to be shared with another person. / Thank you so much for supporting and embracing me and one of my true loves…art!

/ Country Walk We can ask no greater joy than to pass gently through this place that has been given to us, and make something out of it. Not necessarily to fully understand it, for that might be an impossible task, but to honour it in our own way. / Moondance Well, its a marvelous night for a moondance / With the stars up above in your eyes / A fantabulous night to make romance / ‘neath the cover of October skies / And all the leaves on the trees are falling / To the sound of the breezes that blow / And I’m trying to please to the calling / Of your heart-strings that play soft and low. Thank you so much.

This new idea is in the Ideas and Suggestions Forum...
This new idea is in the Ideas and Suggestions Forum if anyone feels they’d like to vote for it, thank you :) I’ve been thinking about the marriage of art and design, particularly with regard to Australian cultural icons, such as the thong (the type one shuffles onto their feet on the way to the beach) the esky (or the chillybin as those in NZ may have come to know it) the surfboard and the body board Have a look at Marc Newson’s famous nickel surfboard and his even more famous Aluminium and fibreglass lounge In an effort never to cheapen art, Red Bubble have always been very wise I think in sticking to a product range that always elevates the status of art, never cheapening it in a way by sticking it on all kinds of merchandise, BUT… I still think that it’s possible to have some other designer merchandise (like our tshirts for example) which are still wearable, useful and can create a cult following, without cheapening the art. Here in Australia, we have loads of potential for something as simple as the Designer Thong there are endless possibilities, and I would just love to see something like the Designer Thong be introduced to the Bubble…even were it to be just a one off comp…. i would love also to see Surfboards designs (not the surfboard itself, i mean the art going onto the surfboard) by our great artists, and body boards and eskies….. even if these things weren’t on offer all the time, but just occasionally there were challenges to create designs for these as one offs… although i would love to see them become regularly available, because these are the types of things I can imagine would get a lot of exposure on the ground…for Red Bubble and for us as artists. Can you imagine hauling out your esky at the bbq….. and everyone’s checking out your design?? am thinking about the old vintage look esky’s not so much the modern style… but there could be variations in style. I know i have my head up in the clouds and it ’s a whole lot of daydreaming, but after seeing a recent interview with the Australian designer Marc Newson and reading about Stefan Sagmeister, I can help but feel inspired and the creative ideas begin to flow. Here is a wonderful thongs artwork by John Dahlsen who also does wonderful “thong bottle sculptures” and “thong totems” And of course, we can’t forget Mambo and I don’t think that putting the art onto tshirts and thongs cheapens it at all….just makes it more and more accessible to people like us, our friends and our families…and what a great advertisement too. There could be challenges for us as bubblers, to paint our thongs and submit them in photos, to paint an esky and submit….. to paint a surfboard and submit…. etc…etc… and prize could be to have them printed… with a possible view someday to perhaps selling thongs with our designs on them, just like we do with tshirts…designer thongs… Anyway, i’ve not yet submitted the idea to the ideas and suggestions journal, but maybe i will… depends on whether you think it’s a good idea. I realise fully, that these are Australian ideas, from an Australian girl…. who loves Australia and surf culture….so I may be completely one eyed and off track as we are trying to embrace all cultures here on Red Bubble, and I love all other cultures as well…but am particularly proud of this one too :) oh, and know how busy everyone is, and how flat out Red Bubble’s team is, but couldn’t help sharing my little inspiration with you Anyway, i shall just float off again now, into my little bubble of dreams….happy bubbling to all…. :) Edit I was just reminded of a couple of folks that lived on the beach in a caravan when i was little, and they had a ‘thong tree’...an old tree just covered in ‘found thongs’ they’d find on the beach… pretty cool idea :)

For those who are curious about such things, I’ve started taking pictures of my artworks as they are in progress, so one can see the stages of development. First up is “Ursa”, a mixed media piece measuring 11×15 inches. First to the drawing board (literally) for a preparatory sketch: Then I start to make the initial colorization. I generally start with the face first: Harley Cat is apparently appalled at the direction this new artwork is taking. Or he’s just very tired. Final stages: Scan of the final image: Next up is my latest piece, “Three Ravens”, which measures 25×19 inches. The initial sketch with the first bird colorized and all the “halos” painted in with gold acrylics: I used blue pastel paper to make the color on the ravens “pop” more: / Another raven comes to life: / Starting in on the background with it’s stylized wheat field: / / The final artwork: / Professional photo: / And finally a sneak peak at a new piece I started last night, called “The Serpent Tree”, which is inspired by the various world tree / tree of life myths.
