More art than photo, really… took this in a near-whiteout at Perisher, and extracted the main tree by massively increasing contrast and levels. Hence the slight fuzziness, hence the large drop-off in detail behind the tree, and hence (I think) the rather pleasing effect!

“Clouds on the Water, Fire Near the Sky” / Purchase a Mouse Pad of this image I happened onto this gorgeous sunrise over the White River at a time when the water was at its lowest. I was delighted to catch the calm surface for reflections, as the low rising sun was casting its first orange glow over the autumn colors.

It seems easier to find success where others have found success, but following a personal path may lead to a rewarding journey. Such was the case in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest of California’s White Mountains. The Patriarch Grove is home to dramatic bristlecone trees, the oldest living things on Earth. My goal was to photograph the trees of this grove, where many other photographers had already captured wonderful images. My wife, Linda, suggested an alternative hike along a steep ridge to an unknown destination. I followed her intuition, and together we discovered a lone bristlecone tree, high atop the ridge, catching the last warm rays of the sun as it set behind the Eastern Sierra Mountains. Our path was in the opposite direction of the famous grove, but it led to a single tree that symbolized the enduring strength and beauty of the bristlecone forest. Canon Elan 7 camera and Provia 100 film.

I took this on the way home after a Christmas Concert by the Big Rock Singers and just had to share it right away. We have had a dump of six to eight inches of heavy wet snow lasting all day, causing me to shovel several driveways several times today. However, the absolute beauty of freshly fallen snow mixed with blue Christmas lights makes up for any of the day’s toils. Hope you like it.

Late afternoon, Lyrup flats between Renmark and Berri in the Riverland of South Australia. Afternoon shots whilst waiting for the sun to go down for a night time shoot. The clouds moved apart and left this diamond like section reflecting nicely on the still backwaters. Again a visit to one of my favourite places where these huge River gums stand defiant against nature, dead but not finished….... Canon 400D 18-55 lens, CIR Polarising filter. Three shot panoramic stitch in CS3 and converted to B&W in the same program.
