To my sheer delight….a poem I wrote a little while ago called ‘Tree Whisperings’ has been featured in the group ‘Up & Coming Writers’ and ‘The Sisterhood’! A photo called ‘A Dash of Colour’ was also featured in ‘The Sisterhood’! Thank you so much to both these groups! Love M :) Tree Whisperings… The air swirls her limbs like a childs tug-of-war She plays with the wind, a dancers elegance Evening brings great sanctuary from the day Moon-rays clothe her body Then as a babe awakening from deepest sleep She unfurls her limbs skyward Soaking in the light of a new day…

I see a lot of strong black and white, and monochrome, showing up along with the spectacular color. / And let me take this opportunity to thank you again for the extent to which you all enhance my visual experience and knowledge. I am filled with admiration for the photographers here, your skill, the unusual subject matter, brilliant captures of impossible color and shadow, and sense of play. / I’m a generation’s difference at least to many of you, and the photographers much present in my growing up life are not the same ones you know. When I posted the portrait I did of Georgia O’Keeffe, using the Alfred Stieglitz photograph of her, I was surprised that he was unknown to many. So if you’d had some pleasure in discovering these Americans of yore, may I direct you to a few other favorites of mine? / One, a photographer of the north west wilderness & Yosemite, who trudged around mountains with a huge Hasselblad, or Agfa or one of its ancient view camera relatives, is Ansel Adams. He was famous for long exposures and a brand new crystal clarity in pictures that few equaled. / Two, (also three four & five) The Weston family: Brett, Edward, and Cole. The latter recently passed away. The whole family did brilliant work, Brett’s my favorite, he worked in the forties, possibly into the 80’s, the family lived long lives. I know them from the area I live in and their ongoing fame in San Francisco, they’re locals survived by grandchildren keeping their galleries and memories alive. Again, pioneers in black and white film, and people whose work may interest the fine practitioners here. I wish I had the sense to put a link here, but if you type in any of their names, pages of their work appear. I hope it’s a good romp for newcomers to these boys.

Up here in the NE corner of Wyoming winter can start quite early .. in fact it usually snows the first time in September .. kinda late this year … thought I’d snap a pic to share with you … as you can see it’s still green under that white and the snow borders on rain today … suppose to snow for the next few days .. heavier at night … first snows are nice (smile) .. just don’t ask me what I think about snow when January rolls around .. in fact we could even have a blizzard in April … been told (never seen it myself) that it’s even snowed on the 5th of July!! ... for anyone interested trees are precious in NE Wyoming .. only reason we have them is that they were planted as a windbreak on the original homestead and are over 60 years old! they’re Siberian Elms… and the bench used to by my couch from the now turned into a storage shed trailer .. should have painted or sealed it this summer .. oh well .. maybe next year (grin) ... owlspook 081010

... voila freshwater ice … / that has been broken off a glacier or an ice sheet or shelf. Icebergs float in the water because they are less dense than the water they are immersed in. Only 1/5th of their mass is visible above water and they come in various sizes, the largest iceberg sighted was approximately the same size as Belgium! www.mnh.si.edu/arctic/html/resources_glossary.html

hey everyone, / I figured i better explain the series a little better! i actually came up with the idea last night. I woke up at 2 am and knew exactly what i wanted to do. I have a gallery showing in about a month and wanted something different and unique to show. The trends at the moment range from feminine issues, our world, womans issues, etc. so i think this fits in perfectly. The series consists of three images. / The first, titled ” new growth” represents the new growth that occurs all over our beautiful planet. A seedling blue spruce immerges from an egg shell to show life grows everywhere, the egg representing procreation and the seedling representing growth. The second titled ” New Growth gets a helping hand” represents humans as the predominate creature on earth need to do what we can to help the continuation of new growth, nature and wildlife on our amazing planet. In short our furture and our childrens future is in our hands. the third titled ” new growth without a helping hand represents what could happen if we continue to abuse our planet and don’t clean up after ourselves. our world will be destroyed and the new growth will be choked out!. A controversial series yes, but i have never been on to shy away from a challenge or an important issue. / i hope you enjoy the series. I will most likely frame all three in one frame for the show. New Growth / New growth gets a helping hand / New Growth without a helping hand /
