This is a shot of the well known Treasury of Petra, “The Rose City”, in Jordan. It was caught just at the end of the day as the sun was setting, the crowds dispersing and the camels resting! Of all the things I have seen, this is definately a highlight. The feeling I got as I walked down the narrow siq and got a first glimpse of the Treasury from between the rocks is one I’ll never forget!
I took this shot on Bell Island, if you look closely at the base of the cliff you can see a natural tunnel that has been bored through the rock by the water and out to the other side. The bravest and most daring of kayakers venture into these tunnels to explore. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / / /
I took this photo the day after the severe winds and rain in Nov 2007 while hiking back from Beauchamp Falls in the Otway Ranges. I heard water running off the track and went looking. It showed that beauty can still come after destruction.

I woke up one morning and came out into the kitchen just after I had finished this work and the rainbow was spot on the stone of destiny! It was goosepimple stuff, I tell you! The spirits walked my house that morning! These big powerful mandalas are connections… connections with spirit, connections with others, connections with myself. See my origami calendar Folded on June 21, 2008 and shot through a magnifying glass (as I only have a handhled camera without the fancy macro features). A crane folded from a 3×3mm piece of trace paper The folding process can be seen here And just for fun, I used this photo to create my new avatar (created on June 15, 2009) Here is the paper: / For a better idea of scale: / I didn’t videotape myself folding as linaji suggested, but just for fun here’s a preview of the origami surgery :P. My origami calendar / / Just one sheet makes a big difference; / One sheet that can make over 2000 cranes. / Each crane a step closer to a better world; / Each piece a step closer to peace. Each square in the grid paper is 5×5mm; and to be exact, there were 2028 full squares in the paper When I was in grade 5 our teacher read “Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes” to our class. Sadako Sasaki was infected with leukemia. She spent her days folding cranes and making wishes upon them; wishing for her health and for a more peaceful world (the quote above is my writing inspired by the story of the thousand paper cranes). This concept was originally created in 2008, and photographed without a tripod. But now I have a tripod and decided to re-shoot this again and re-uploaded it on September 6, 2009. My origami calendar I folded the mother duck out of trace paper around the time I saw ducklings on the way to work; can read about that here. I can’t remember how big the paper was; I believe 13×13mm. The two little ducklings in the centre were folded from 6×6mm pieces of trace paper while the little one at the back was folded from a 5×5mm piece of trace paper. I know mother duck is just behind the 4cm mark, but the duckling at the back is infront of the 1cm mark, hence the duck family is a 3cm spread ^ _ ^ New version added August 21, 2008 / Looks great on a card! Although maybe distracting at work; lol. / Also available at Zazzle / This work has been featured in: / Ebony and Ivory / Numbers One to a Trillion / Waterfowl / Little Things To Make You Smile / Weekly Theme Challenges / Color Me a Rainbow / Boredom Competitions on the 24/7 / / Works by Category Origami / Drawings,Paintings and Graphics Flowers, Trees and Plants / Water and Waterscapes / Scenery/Skyscapes / Light, Shadow, and Reflections / Still Life Living Creatures / Human Portrait Japanfluence / Canada / Europe / / / More Sample Origami / / / / / / / / / / / ‘Serenity’, the Firefly spacecraft (My own design) / / / / / / / /

A spot I found a couple of years ago and decided that now would be a great time to visit given the peak fall colors. What I didn’t count on was all the blowdown from last winter which made this short journey a 2 hour scramble over and under rock and log. I think the hike was worth it! Autumn leaves line a tumbling stream as it flows over boulder and rock.

Third Place in “Red” challenge in Weekly Theme Challenges July 7, 2009. / Featured in I Love Birds May 27, 2009. / Featured in DSLR Users Only May 25, 2009. Best Viewed Larger A male cardinal outside my kitchen window (Montgomery County Maryland) on a rainy, cold March 2, 2009. This image is an homage to Jan Piller whose work I admire so much and who inspired me to play harder with textures. I still have a long way to go, lol!!! Image taken with the Nikon D40x and the 70-300mm vr Nikon / Nikkor lens. Post processing included some brush strokes in Photoshop, levels, burning and dodging and a texture layer. Texture from Princess of Shadows at Deviant Art “Cardinalidae Male Northern Cardinal / Scientific classification / Kingdom: Animalia / Phylum: Chordata / Class: Aves / Order: Passeriformes / Suborder: Passeri / Family: Cardinalidae / Genera / Periporphyrus / Saltator / Caryothraustes / Parkerthraustes / Rhodothraupis / Cardinalis / Pheucticus / Cyanocompsa / Passerina / Spiza / The Cardinals or Cardinalidae are a family of passerine birds found in North and South America. The South American cardinals in the genus Paroaria are placed in another family, the Thraupidae (previously placed in Emberizidae). / These are robust, seed-eating birds, with strong bills. The family ranges in size from the 12-cm, 11.5-gram Orange-breasted Bunting to the 25-cm, 85-gram Black-headed Saltator[verification needed]. They are typically associated with open woodland. The sexes usually have distinctive appearances; the family is named for the red plumage (colored cardinal like the color of a Catholic cardinal’s vestments) of males of the type species, the Northern Cardinal. / The “buntings” in this family are sometimes generically known as “tropical buntings” (though not all live in the tropics) or “North American buntings” (though there are other buntings in North America) to distinguish them from the true buntings. Likewise the grosbeaks in this family are sometimes called “cardinal-grosbeaks” to distinguish them from other grosbeaks. The name “cardinal-grosbeak” can also apply to this family as a whole. / Most species are rated by the IUCN as least concern, though some are near threatened.” info courtesy of Wikipedia
Featured Australian Wildlife 22/07/09 The koala is a small bear-like, tree-dwelling, herbivorous marsupial which averages about 9kg (20lb) in weight. Its fur is thick and usually ash grey with a tinge of brown in places. / / The koala gets its name from an ancient Aboriginal word meaning “no drink” because it receives over 90% of its hydration from the Eucalyptus leaves (also known as gum leaves) it eats, and only drinks when ill or times when there is not enough moisture in the leaves. ie during droughts etc. The koala is the only mammal, other than the Greater Glider and Ringtail Possum, which can survive on a diet of eucalyptus leaves. /
Ox-eye-daisies, white roses and lavender from my garden, Florabella textures applied to give a dreamy effect and its pouring with rain so I am slowly getting addicted to textures lol!
