The Icelandic Harvester. / / When I came across this old vessel moored to the pier my imagination started running wild with scenarios of what life aboard this wooden vessel would have been like. I could almost feel the sineous texture of the ropes as they hung there coated in the ice cold saltwater of the frigid North Atlantic Ocean. I could nearly hear the calls of the sailors as they shouted commands back and forth across her weather beaten decks as the waves crashed down upon her on any one of her numerous voyages. What sights must have been seen as sailors of old lined the rails to peer down at the mysteries of the sea. How many men were lost at sea and how many made it home with wild stories of his adventure aboard the Icelandic Harvester. / / Shot with a Canon 400D and processed in Lightroom 2. / / NautilusBlue / / nominated this image to be showcased in the group Pay It Forward and this is what she had to say… / / Ice Breaker / by Kevin Kroeker / I think it is an outstanding image with great composition ( great leading lines) with lots of drama and the colours are amazing . It shows us the harshness of the climate. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography /
Fishing trawlers tied to the wharf in the St. John’s harbour. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / /
This is a photo of the sea barrier at the wharf in St. Phillips, Newfoundland. The salt water from the ocean has rusted the bolts and caused this array of rainbow colors to stain the wood. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography /
This yellow dory was tied to the wharf for the winter. The boat launch had quite a steep angle to it… you can see the ocean far below, so the dory was secured with these blue ropes.I loved the contrast between the yellow boat and the blue ropes holding it securely. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / / laminated print / /
I took this shot of the marina… it was cold, wet and foggy
Mother nature is preparing her assault… / / Canon 400D / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography
early, stupid early, before the trawlers go out to sea
This is the epitome of a Trawler returning to port, with the seagulls following. A common sight now, but for how much longer? / The trawler Natalie, about to enter the Looe River, Looe, Cornwall, to offload her catch, tie up and clean up, ready to return to sea the next day. Hope you like it. / Thanks for looking.
Taken at Looe Quay, SE Cornwall, December ‘07. / It had just been raining, which I think, adds to the enhancement of the picture. / No PS work in this. As Is. Thanks for looking. Pentax K110D. / Pentax 18-55mm lens.
This old trawler was brought ashore many years ago during a massive tide..It seems it will never see the sea again, destined to turn into a rusting hunk over how ever many years into the future…Quite a bit history about this here boat actually…I do have a colored version back in my recent PF, but the subject just cries out for a mono workover…..cheers for looking.
A bright red fishing boat with reflection on a smooth sea
This is one of my fav spots to shoot… the St. John’s waterfront. / / The homes on the side of the cliff are known as the battery. / / / Canon 400D… lightroom and CS3 to process. / / LARGE VIEW recommended / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography
An old fishing boat that had rusted out badly around the rear of the hull – I used a macro lens to get this photograph – the variety of color is not obvious until one gets up very close and takes a careful look – otherwise it just looks like a boat with a rusted rudder. / Sold framed print (privately, not through RB but was seen here) to friend / / /
I took this shot in one of the many outport communities along Newfoundland’s Avalon Penninsula. There were so many of these crabpots stacked along side many different sheds. / / / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography /
The overnight lights are still burning as a foggy dawn breaks. Scipio Creek provides a safe harbor for the shrimp trawlers that work the Gulf of Mexico from the mighty Apalachicola River. Taken on a recent stay in Looe, Cornwall. I wanted to shoot into the sun for a dramatic effect.
This old dory sits here reminiscing of days gone by… when the fishery was thriving. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / / /
This is a shot of a small coastal community called Tors Cove. The water was so clear and the colors were incredible. I spent awhile here just photographing everything I could see lol. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / /
This old trawler is listing to one side & about to be dismantled. / The owner of the shipyard was kind enough to let me take her final portrait. / The smoke is from factories across the river in Murrarie, Brisbane, Queensland Australia.
Loved this old fishing trawler with all the bits and pieces attached to it. HDR treatment using 5 different exposures and put through Photomatix application. / Fremantle Western Austraila

Tenby Harbour at night. Tnby Pembrokeshire South Wales
This Hull fishing trawler was blown up in a harbour in Norway, during WW2, to prevent the guns etc it was carrying for the resistance, falling into German hands. / Painted for the son of the coxswain, who didn’t return from the war. Acrylic on canvas board 18×24” approx
This is replacing a previous version I had uploaded. I applied a ND filter to it to make the fog thicker and sharpened it up a bit more.
