This photo was taken during my trip to Luxor (Egypt, Africa) in 2007. When I was on the boat voyage on the Nile. The Nile is a major north-flowing river in Africa, generally regarded as the longest river in the world. Muiderslot (the Muiden Castle), not far away from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, is one of the best known Dutch castles. Originally built by Floris V around 1280, the castle is relatively small (32 by 35 meters, according to Wikipedia) but strong (with brick walls up to 1.5m thick), and surrounded by a moat. The castle is a popular destination for family trips, offering two children-friendly routes, that are both informative and offering some hands-on experience: the route of the towers, and the route of the knights. Regular falconry demonstrations add another highlight. Muiden, the Netherlands. October 2008. Canon EOS 300X, Sigma 28-135. Post-processing: retouch, noise reduction, perspective correction, sharpening.

Sometimes I feel the need to escape my daily routine, and jump on a train to an unknown destination. Just a brief pause in my life to replenish my energy… Today is one of those days, but I will only dream of waving and hearing someone say Bon voyage ! Composite made of 4 different images, sometimes used up to three times with various blending modes and opacities. The train layer was used 3 times and I have applied an Orton effect to one of those to create a dreamy mood. I converted to black and white, then I changed it to duotone. Several other adjustement layers were added, like curves, levels, gradient, etc. Position cursor over thumbnails for more details on how the images were used / The textures below are stock images. The red paper texture has a direct link to the CG Textures download page, but the second one was offered for download on a tutorial page, and I’m not sure where it really comes from. The link will bring you the tutorial’s download page. If you know the author of this file, please tell me so I can give proper credit. / Finished in 4th position of Top Ten in the challenge If I Had My Way of the Images and Ideas Group on June 4, 2009 See also my greeting version in my other portfolio /
views of the pyramids are everywhere you look in Cairo. We were stunned at just how close the city had sprawled up to the base of these incredible monuments to man’s creativity and self-obsession. Straight from the camera. /
ink drawing and golden digital colors-— / first-things challenge -ancient egypt wisdom music:—-—-- / Enchanted Egypt 1 / here is the very good description of user TertiusOculusOris / and the musicians / Title: Enchanted Egypt 1 / Album: Enchanted Egypt / Artist: Hossam Ramzy Phil Thornton / Year: 2004 “The first part of the title track. A short Qanun ‘Taqsim’ introduces an enchanting melody that is haunting and emotional. Based on the Wahda Kebira (meaning the Big One). The melody turns around several times, shifting to a 7/4 while the Accordion improvises in a solitary way to express feelings of yearning to the old and ancient knowledge that is long forgotten through the millennia.” ~The Musicians.
