I took this on a road trip through Colorado. The little bloke the middle is my nephew Jack. I love this shot and yet everything in it is so inconsequential. Perhaps that’s its secret for me. It demonstrates the typical props of American life. The consumer goods, the ATM, the ‘wild west test your strength game’ Jack is playing with, the hint of USA embroidery on the shirt worn by the man on the left and the wonderful stance and gaze of the harley rider over Jack’s left shoulder. So random yet so complete.

The Venetian, Macau. The Venetian is a 40-story, $1.8 billion anchor for the 7 resort hotels which are under construction on the Cotai Strip in Macau. The 10,500,000-square-foot (980,000 m²) Venetian Macao is modeled on its sister casino resort – the The Venetian in Las Vegas – and is the largest single structure hotel building in Asia and the second-largest building in the world. They wouldn’t allow me to take photos in the gambling zone, but if you look closely at the first floor you’d see the number of tables available to eat your money away. I swear there’s over 300 tables down there. Correction: The casino consists of over 1000 slot machines and more than 600 gaming tables that are open around the clock. Amazing. One of which is the train bridge shown here. I traipsed across the river one afternoon just before sunset and captured this image from the Indiana side of the river at just the right moment to have the red and orange glow of the sunset radiate throughout the photo. I had no idea that a train would be crossing right at that time, but it certainly made for a nice addition! On the road again – Kangaroo Island, SA I have to tell you – it doesn’t get much better than this for someone who enjoys travelling and photographing Australia’s great outdoors and its native wildlife. This cute chap is lucky – we were driving along slowly, enjoying the scenery on Kangaroo Island. We stopped to take photos and then usher the Koala off the road. Other critters aren’t so lucky. We have witnessed not only roadkill on our travels but the distressing sight of cars actually running over helpless creatures.
