  • On the road south, this woman loomed larger than life ahead of us, beaming away for several kms. It felt like she was our travelling companion for a short time, and we couldn’t help smiling back! • The subtitle is “Angels Protect Me on My Journey”, a prayer on waking, on getting out on the right side of bed, on hitting the road, on thinking a new thought. Nice supersized. Oil on canvasboard. Actually a very small painting, and this is a detail which has a lot of nice drama going on in it. The color from the original is slightly altered, but I liked the terra cotta – green kind of wash I got by fooling with it in post op, or whatever you brilliant photographers on RB call that.

  • one of the new desert drawings series .

  • one of the new desert drawings series . In the old days in the Arabian Gulf , people used to make their homes and their household from palm trees , as you see here the wife would weave the dry strands of palm leaves together to create what they need , mats to set on , baskets, food cover, dinning mats” the round thing behind her ” used on the floor as a dinning table, also the walls of the home made of the branches of the palm tree. / they also colored some of the strands with natural dyes. This is what the palm leaves weaving looks like . /

  • Lost in Utah would have been a more apt title after the GPS affectionately known as “Dorothy” lead me to a graveyard instead of a lake lol. I discovered some gorgeous countryside along route. There is nothing better than getting lost :))

  • ©2007-2008 Aimee Stewart, Foxfires – please see my CC Terms of Use before considering using this image for any personal or commercial use http://foxfires.deviantart.com/journal/15905899/ / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- Artist’s Notes: I’ve had this picture in my mind for quite awhile. As a child, my treasured stuffed animal (as all children tend to have) was a little squirrel who went on every kind of adventure with me, and my favorite story was about a lil’ squirrel named “Miss Suzy” – written by Miriam Young, and illustrated by Arnold Lobel. I love the thought of the tiny leaf-boat capturing the attention of the denizens of the pond as it passes by en route to a wonderous place. January 10th, 2009 – WOW!! Thank you so much for the front page feature!!! I’m so delighted! If you like Columbus – you might enjoy some of my other little animal works!! / / /

  • Saint Mary’s Lake is in Glacier National Park, Montana, USA. I believe I was rather lucky to get such a calm day as I witnessed here, since I was told that for quite some weeks they had been experiencing unusually bad weather for the time of year ! Glacier is an amazing place, with its primeval mountain shapes, and abundant wildlife, lakes and waterfalls, and many good trails. I was hearing the Elk bugling across the lake as I shot. I would recommend this magic place to anyone ! Shot on my Canon EOS 40D, mounted on tripod, polarising filter, f22, 1/30 sec, iso 100, auto WB, Raw file, processed in Adobe CS3, selective levels/curves and selective colour adjustments. I sharpened with Intellisharpen 2. FEATURED IN / http://www.redbubble.com/groups/dslr-users-only-3-a-day / AND / http://www.redbubble.com/groups/streams-brooks-creeks SEE MORE OF MY “USA” SET HERE …

  • The much photographed road shot, taken at sunrise. / All I had to do was get up early and wait for “it” to happen. / The early bird catches the worm ! Scanned from a Fuji Velvia transparency, image shot on my Ricoh KR10 super, mounted on a tripod and polariser fitted, f22, iso 50, don’t know the shutter speed ! / Scanned with my Nikon Coolscan VED into Adobe PS CS3, with a little dust and noise removal. • The Moulton Barn, Mormon Row, Teton National Park, Jackson, Wyoming, USA. I got up early for this one, I had travelled thousands of miles to see it, had only one morning to get my shot in the bag – and what did I find ? / A film crew shooting an advert ! Along with a battalion of other photographers, I was champing at the ‘bit’, since we weren’t allowed to shoot in case we captured the models – male and female – the whole darned thing was so artificial !! So, when there was a lull in shooting, I crept under a bush and hastily ‘snapped’ my shot. Maybe I should pursue a career in the ‘Paparazzi ??!!! Shot on my Canon EOS 40D with polarising filter attached, mounted very hastily on my tripod, Canon efs 18-55mm lens set at 45mm, underexposed by half a stop, f 27, 1/20 sec, auto wb, iso 100, RAW file developed as much as possible in Adobe Camera Raw, then in PS CS3, selective Levels/Curves, saturation of colours achieved with LAB colour, then the tiniest amount of Orton applied, to ‘pop’ the textures of the wood and grass. • Tree Skeletons shot at Dawn, in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA, reflected in a pool. I shot this before the sun broke through the mist, as I liked the blueness emphasising the coldness – there was a few degrees of frost that morning. / The image I processed from a RAW file, I felt was a little plain, so I gave it a touch of Orton, which drew out the dead tree silhouettes. Still not happy, I added a texture, to enhance the fog, not too much, since I didn’t want to spoil the ‘soft’ feel of the image. / I can recall the quietness of the early morning as I stood in awe of Mother Nature’s magic ! Shot on my Canon Eos 40D, mounted on tripod, f23, 1/60 sec, / no exposure compensation, the meter read the scene correctly, auto wb, RAW file processed in Adobe RAW, then in CS3, Orton applied with reduced opacities, and a texture, downloaded for free off the internet someplace, applied with discretion, by again reducing opacities etc. SEE MORE OF MY USA SET ….

  • An image from my 2010 calendar, “The Dream Traveler” / And also a print on it’s own called “Secret Harbor” /

  • Saint Mary Lake, Glacier National Park, Montana, USA. Where else would you want to be on a morning like this ? The Elk were bugling across the Lake, it was warm, the air was very still, reflections all around me, gorgeous mountains everywhere…......... / felt like I was in heaven !! / All I had to do was get down a very steep bank on the lakeside – then get back up, Help !! / Magic ! Shot on my Canon EOS 40D, mounted on tripod, polarising filter attached, f22, 1/15 sec, iso 100, auto wb, shot at 50mm on my 18-55mm lens, RAW file processed in Adobe Camera RAW, then CS3 with tweaks in levels/curves and selective colour. • Mesa Arch, Canyonlands NP, Utah, USA. Utah has an amazing landscape, there is so much to see, very photogenic with all that red rock, especially viewed against a very blue sky ! (I like it best when there are a few clouds as well though !) This Arch is reached along a rocky trail, and is very impressive, as it perfectly frames the view beyond. / We did quite a few of the trails in Canyonlands and Arches, and found the very dry going underfoot an absolute dream, since we are more used to having to play ‘dodge the bog’ here in super-wet Scotland ! Shot on Fuji Velvia, around seven years ago. I scanned it on to my PC with my Nikon Coolscan VED, and tidied up a bit of ‘dust’ in Photoshop. I also beefed up the red colour for more impact. • Taken in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA. Pretty much a tourist snapshot of the Falls, which I thought I would share with you ! / A rather crowded place, justifiably so, who wouldn’t want to see this sight ? The Canyon has some amazing colours, and I found the best time was towards evening to be viewed at it’s best. The vertiginous slopes are very loose and crumbly, and I wondered how those trees maintain their perilous foothold !! Shot on a Canon EOS 40D, polariser, tripod, f22, 1/3 sec, iso 100, auto wb, RAW file processed in PS CS3, levels/curves/selective colour adjustments. • My parents owned a VW when I was growing up so, this toy one made me smile. My grandpa owned one, as well, and when I rode in, it there was this red button on the dash he used to joke about. The joke was if you pushed it, it would burn you. I always, laughed at that little, game…don’t know what that button really did lol Featured in Passionate About Vintage / Canon Macro
