Gentoo Penguin on top of some tussac grass. / / (Antarctic Peninsula) / / Melting sea ice and overfishing have triggered a dangerously rapid decline in penguin populations on the Antarctic peninsula – a direct result of global warming, warns a new report from the WWF. The gentoo, chinstrap and adélie – along with the emperor, the largest penguin species in the world – are now struggling to survive as melting sea ice reduces vital food sources, such as krill. / / Gentoos are now listed as nearly endangered on the IUCN Red List. / Read about it yourself here / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /
There was a day I shot photos ALL day, this was in Jodhpur, it was on a Sunday and i had to buy some music for my restaurant, so i found this local CD shop and I installed myself with my camera, drinking chai all day, listening to the music I was buying and in the meantime i just clicked and clicked and clicked..what an indulgence that was,.this lovely man come over to me and asked what i was shooting?..people sir , people, colors..he told me he was travelling through the country with his family , like on a ‘religious’ tour and was very happy to pose for me, so that was easy :)

WILD & FREE / / Polar bear mum and cubs at the edge of an ice floe looking for some food! / / The sea ice is shrinking at an alarming rate, which has a huge impact for the bears as this is their main hunting ground. More and more bears are being found to have drowned while trying to find the ice, even though they can swim up to sixty miles or so! / / I hope the ice does not completely vanish and that they always have somewhere to hut! WILD AND FREE / / To spend an hour with Mountain Gorillas is one of the best wildlife experiences you can ever hope for. They captivate you with their eyes and you become lost in the moment. Your time with them goes so fast you are left just wanting more… / / Unfortunately, Mountain Gorilla numbers are small, with only approximately 700 left in the wild. The primary threat comes from forest clearance and degradation, as the region’s growing human population struggles to eke out a living. I am hopeful ways can be found to control these problems before it is too late. / / (Virunga volcanoes – Rwanda) / /
WILD AND FREE / / On the last morning of our Arctic trip we had a few hours to spend in Longyearbyen before our departure. We went for a walk along the shore and came across these Arctic Terns. They were very protective and dived bombed everyone. / / (Spitzbergen – Scandinavian Arctic) / /

From Sligachan, when the river was on the point of freezing, and the colour of steel. / There were some lovely glints of reflected light on the water, where I was standing in deep shadow, so I shot for HDR, knowing that would bring out the best detail in the water, and the colours. / VIEW LARGE FOR DETAIL !!! Canon EOS50D, tripod, iso 100, cloudy wb, f23, / A three shot HDR, RAW files processed in Photomatix, then titivated up in PS CS3, selective colour, a bit of “multiply” in a duplicate layer, reduce opacity, then a touch of Orton…. by duplicating my image, applying Orton, then layering on top of the original until the desired effect was achieved, then flattened. This makes the colours POP ! MORE SEASONAL IMAGES HERE… / / /
