I love old cars and trucks! My dad started drag racing in 1961 with a 1957 Mercury Montclair. He then raced a 1962 Volvo 122S (with the 1800cc engine) and then a 64 Comet Cyclone. His favorite and most successful drag car was his 1969 CJ428 Cougar Eliminator. He still owns two Cougar Eliminators (the 1969 CJ428 & a 1970 351C) and a very rare 1969 XR-7 CJ428 convertible. I spent many happy weekends at the race track. I remember falling asleep after a day at the races with the sound of dragsters still in my head. My favorite muscle car was my 1968 Road Runner. My husband put a 440 in it and I had such fun blowing the guys away. ;-) My husband also raced a 1964 Plymouth Fury with a Hemi in it. We spent a lot of time with it at Orange County Raceway. I hope my photos take you back to the time when you could chirp your tires through 3 gears and still win the race.

So enter the first months of the year and a new Melbournite Diesel has been organisingthe locals getting together for a catch up in the middle of the worst heatwave ever (except for the one before they recorded heatwaves) at the pub known as Transport at federation square. A couple of days ago I was heading to work early in the morning as usual. It was about 5 a.m. when I stepped into the public bus. In order to make my 1 hour long journey pass more quickly I have brought my mp3 player along, thinking that some good vibes will make the time pass more quickly. / After my first step into the bus it was quiet clear that it will be another memorable morning ride. About 3 degrees Celsius outside and the heating in the bus was not working (happens so very often). So I was ready for one more “shaking” hour wishing that I do not catch another cold. Sitting on a cold wooden chair was another obstacle to overcome on this freezing morning but I hoped that at least music will help to ease the sufferings. / I have switched on my mp3 player and somehow synchronously, bus driver has started the engine and all I could hear was loud engine roar. Increasing the volume on my mp3 player was not enough to overcome those unbelievably annoying and loud engine sounds although I have tried until increasing pain in my ears has made me stop from further attempts. I was already trying to suppress my thoughts regarding this miserable experience and what helped not to call it a disastrous was the fact that wonderful hues of morning lights were changing rapidly in front of my eyes, so that soul warming light that we photographers prefer to see was a helping hand on that morning. / I have snapped a photo from a fast moving bus just when we were crossing the Branko’s bridge connecting New Belgrade with the older part of Belgrade, and although a crappy mobile phone camera and a snap through dirty bus window, this photo is a dear memory and a scene that reminds me that one morning I will have to be by the river enjoying the heavenly stage instead of hurrying to work. And hopefully my camera will be right by my side. P.S. This writing is part of my newly created blog which I will hopefully publish one day when some more content added :) If interested I could always send you the link.
