Oil painting on canvas (Jan. 2007) / 915×915 x 43 mm. It was10 months after Cyclone Larry Cat4/5 devastatingly hit our town Innisfail (20 March 2006) that I was able to get back into physically doing my artwork. / This work was the first completed. It was initiated from the passion for a small colour and abstract shaped design I had previously done in a journal. The title truly reflects the challenge I inwardly had to face – to elevate my spirit, find heart again, to gather strength, courage and passion to create a body of new artwork that was to be exhibited in May 2007 at Cairns Regional Gallery and has since toured. / Within a geometric grid format, X’s, richly glazed colours, leaf and vessel shapes form the essence for Elevating the Spirit. The subtle spiral movement within the composition subliminally forms a large heart, which I pleasantly discovered only after finishing the painting and viewed from a distance. Can you find it? / SYMBOLOGY Geometric grid – 3D physical world, lattice grid, boundaries Red/orange/yellows – grounded, earth bound, matter, lower base chakras, passion, fire, outer, energy, emotions, ... / Green/blue/magentas – heart, essence, self, psyche, growth, expression, etherial, spirituality … Leaf, spiral, diagonal, patterns – inner, passage, transporters, transition, movement, action, direction, change, interaction, duality, junctions, expansion/contraction … Vessel – of being, presence, container, inner alchemy, holder, giver ............................................ Model from life. on full sheet of cold press arches paper. I exagerated the light and had the hair falling down her back the model had her hair up, and made the background into the impression of a bath tub. On my web site I have called it Bathing Nude. I love painting from life. This watercolour is for sale and can be posted unframed. At the moment is is framed to match.

I love nature, and often meditate, the fragrance from my garden now in bloom, lush with brilliant white Jasmine’s fill the air with a luring scent, I picked a small branch off and decided it was time to reflect their true beauty and try to capture their fragrance by way of using the macro lens and experiment with a natural light source from a simple television screen as the backdrop. This is the end result straight from the camera. I hope you like this.
