Walking down from the summit of Mt Hotham on a day, I’d been watching this break in the cloud open and close as it moved across the horizon, some what a chance image. It existed for maybe 20 or 30 seconds before closing up again.
Down in the daisies, shooting up towards the back of the ski fields at Mt Buffalo. Galen Rowell inspired this.
Taken some years after the major fires through the victorian alps in 2003 dead and decaying snowgums like this can still be seen in all directions from the tops of most peaks. The fire burned so hot that in many areas these slow growing gums have not started to recover at all. I had a an image in mind like this before I went up to the Hight Country on this trip with a big storm and the white gums, I got my wish! A lone tree marks the top of the first in what seem like infinite folds of earth leading up to the summit of Mt Buller and across the Australian Alps
The moon is a common theme in my landscape images – It’s always such a great suprise to catch a crescent moon like this one with some earth shine.
Cradle Moutain among others can been seen poking through the morning mist.
Down to the shore of Lake Windemere and over to Barn Bluff in the distance, this is one of the more beautiful huts along the overland track in tasmania.
A simple, yet magical astronomical phenomina. When there is a very thin crecent moon, the earth reflecets enough light to illuminate the dark part of the moon just a little. This earth shine makes the grey disc of the moon visible along size the sliver of light. Add a deep purple sky and a bit of prom ridge line and I reckon you have a pretty amazing sight.
A summer sunset at the top of Mt Buller looking west.
Sun right behind the Hut on Mt Buller, a perfect summer evening on the mountain. A few clouds, daises and only a little bit of climbing down in the dark.
The first light streaks down the snow covered summit ridge line of Mt Buller, a worthy reward for the hour walking in the snow to get there !
