Postcard / Looking up the postcard marks sets this somewhere between 1925 and 1942. Jimmy Dock, a friend, tells me his parents met this fellow, but when pressed for a date, he could recall only that it was back when the roads around here were still all dirt. This is a rare happening for Jimmy Dock. Usually he is good with dates, too. / This fellow was travelling all over the country with his dogs. I guess these days, he would be a transient, and his dogs would be taken away by the ASPCA, but back then, it apparently was acceptable.

This is the first photograph I am uploading using a totally new technique. An experiment really, but one which I am enjoying immensely. Pryere – is kindly taking the photographs of this new series, for which I thank him. I would also like to mention Stephen Russell – Lacy who writes….For when the love of self no longer rules our hearts, then we rise above our worries concerning the transient things of the world. I’m not quite sure how to describe this. It’s an externalization of what I feel stuck in a society that thinks Sarah Palin has an I.Q. larger than her bra size and that “W” was good for the country. B.T.W.: This hurt. Wrapping your head in barbed wire and pulling it tight (even special FX wire) isn’t something I’d recommend on a date night. I’m contemplating making it a series. This isn’t bad, but a bit too slick . . . (I am, unfortunately, somewhat facile.) maybe more wire visibly poking into the eyes and pulling the mouth open; maybe more “realism” than “expressionism”. Something a little more subtle and not so open that you can get it at a glance. I’m guilty of using Francis Bacon as a guiding light . . . a person who said something about the times he lived within. Agony at what is, comment upon what could be and a desire to change what we are and what we could become freed from the Mullahs and Mega-Church monsters. (My, how alliterative. I must try Cosmo as a market.) Something added: I’m too slick. That’s a bad thing. Anyway, that and a buck will get you a cup of tea.

My heart ached for this transient lying on the sidewalk in Old Town, Sacramento, CA. This area of Sacramento is a highly trafficked tourist attraction and people were having to step over him to walk down the sidewalk. It is not my intent to profit by or exploit someone’s misfortune or invade their privacy…just to encourage myself & others to practice “an attitude of gratitude.” / (Sony A350 DSLR)
