For the life of me (or the cats) I cant get it to do it again grrrrrrrrrr Can anyone help. Andy

I’ve had a thought in my head all day and thought I’d lay the question out here. Does photography have to trancend into ‘art’ to become sellable? I’m not aiming this or having a whinge at all, just asking a question and hopefully trying to sort out a reasonable answer. For example, two of my all time favorite RB contributors… the infamous PLV and Paul Vanzella have work in their portfolios which have obviously started life as photos however by the time they get onto RB they have been tranformed in masterful works of art. Why is this so popular and is it a trend that is worth looking into further to make my work viable in an ever fluctuating market?

There is a moment, in between fragility and total collapse, where something inside is shaken loose. For that brief second, it doesn’t fall, but stays suspended in the reality of it all. Then the choice arises. Do you take it and cradle what would have been shattered? Do you relish the fall? No choice is to be judged, but understood. Whatever was shattered in the moment is in a way freed, allowing you to do what the moment was begging for your compromised body to do – run. And so you do. You escape the flimsy surface of things; you break free from what would have been the disintegration of your resolve. It may have taken only a second but in that second you took the remains of your life and left what was wearing you down. You decided to take life on again, only now in a place that may not break you down as much as your past life had so cruelly done. From jaded and desperate escape lies the glimmer of rebirth. And what if the choice was to acquiesce in what is? What if the last piece of momentum that was pushing you forward had broken? You allowed what threatened to shatter to find its place as shards below, not so much watching as feeling the fracture resonating within you. It is at that point where what was and what would have been no longer matters. All that can be is the now. The now of life and death, light and dark, fear and surrender. It is the now that allows you to see what is left and to fully accept that it is no longer a choice, but a simple “what is”. To run or not to run, that is the question.

  • Weird Creatures and Photoshop Transform Tools
    by Julie Langford

Ok, so here is how I used the Edit transform tools in Photoshop to create / / Wiseman / !http://images-2.redbubble.com/img/art/cropped/...

Ok, so here is how I used the Edit transform tools in Photoshop to create / / Wiseman / and Fish Monster / / / Have loads of fun and be creative – things just appear right before your eyes using this method. / / 1. Open Photoshop and create a new transparent document 3200 high by 2400 wide [you can post a Tshirt with these dimensions as well as an art piece]. / / 2. Create a new layer and fill the bottom layer with solid black [you will need this dark background to see what you are doing later]. / / / / 3. Working on the top, tranparent layer – draw a random shape using the pen tool [create smooth curves by clicking and dragging, until you get back to your first point to close the path]. / / / / 4. Down on the bottom right click on the Paths tab on the layers palette. At the bottom of the palette, click on the convert to selection icon [shown in red below] – this will convert your path to a selection. / / / / 5. Fill this selection with a multicoloured gradient [or two colours of your choice]. / / / / 6. Click on Edit [up the top], then on Free Transform. This puts a border around your selection so that you can resize it. hit enter when you are happy with the resize to apply it. Then use the move tool in the toolbar on the left to move it to the centre of your canvas. / / / / 7. Back in the bottom right Layers palette, click back onto the layer tab. Duplicate the top layer [right click it and click duplicate]. / / 8. Working on the top layer again, click Edit, Transform, rotate. This puts a border around your image and allows you to drag the corners to rotaate the layer. Rotate it enough so that it moves slightly away from the layer beneath [see below]. Hit enter to apply the rotation. / / / / 9. Repeat the layer duplication and rotate until you have about 6 layers – keep the rotation reasonably uniform. / / / / 10. In the layers palette, click the top layer, hold ctrl on the keyboard and click all the other layers – except the bottom, black layer. This will highlight [select] them all. Once selected, righ click them, and click on merge layers. You will now have two layers in the layers palette again. A black layer [at the bottom], and a new layer with your rotation work above it. / / 11. Working on the top layer, click on Edit, transform and warp. this puts a grid over the image, which you can drag in multiple places and directions to completely change the appearance of your image. Work with this until you have a long warped shape like below. hit enter to aply the warp efect. / / / / 12. Repeat the whole process again, duplicating and rotating the layers until you have something like the image below. / / / / 13. Select all the layers except the black layer again and merge them. [youre now back to two layers again]. / / 14. Duplicate the top layer again, move it away from the other layer on your canvas. Warp it so that it is longer and thinner than the original layer that you duplicated [see below] / / / / 15. Click Edit, Free Transform to resize it. / / / / 16, Rotate it and place it over the other layer on your canvas. In the layer palette, drag the long thin layer to underneath the other layer, so that it appears underneath it in the platte [and on your canvas]. / / / / 17. Select both layers [but not the black layer] and merge them. / / 18. Click on image [up the top], and then on rotate canvas, then on 90 degrees CW. Duplicate the top layer, then click on Edit, Transform, then flip horozontally. Now move this new layer over until it lies side by side to the other layer. Select both layers [but not the black layer], and merge them. / / 19. Working on the top layer, click layer up the top, and then New, and then Layer. Draw an oval selection using the circular marquee tool in the eye area, and fill it with white. / / / / 20. Duplicate this layer and drag it over using the move tool to cover the other eye with a white oval. / / 21. Create another new layer, and use the paintbrush and black, and click once on each eye white to create pupils. Ctrl click all the eye layers in the layer pallette and merge them. / / 22. Working on this eye layer, click the word Layer [up the top], then Layer style, then Inner shadow. Apply the settings below to give your eyes life. / / / / 23. Click on the black layer in the layer palette, then click on Layer, new layer up the top to create a new layer above the black layer. / / 24. Use the Polygonal Lasso tool and draw a shape within your image for a beak [see below]. / / / / 25. Fill this selection shape with a dark grey to yellow gradient [top to bottom]. / / 26. Still working on this beak layer, click on Layer [up the top], layer style, Inner Shadow, and use similar settings to when you did the eyes to give depth the the beak. / / 27. Crtl click all the layers except the black layer and merge layers. You are now back to two layers – one black, and one with your image above it. It will look something like the image below. / / / / To save your image to post as art on a black background, go to file, save as, and save as a jpeg. This will merge and flatten the work. / / To save your work to post as a Tshirt, first, click the eye icon next to the black layer in the layer palette to make it disappear – your black background will become invisible. Now go to file, save as, and save as a png file. / / Voila – you have created a critter using transform tools in Photoshop. / / You can also use this method with parts of photographs, like I did with Fish monster. Try all sorts of things to get neat effects – a spoon, as nail, a scewdriver even. / / Most importantly, transform, transform, duplicate and transform some more – the more you use, the better your results will be. / / Have fun! /

So as you guys have seen, I love to doodle… and much of my art has it’s origins in my inky drawings which I scan into photoshop for transformation. They form part of my digital scrap book of potential ingredients for my art (along with a huge bunch of my random photos, textures, bits n pieces of color and shapes) It always surprises me how different the destination can be from the same starting place. I wonder if the drawings evolve in various ways, or if they are old ideas being recycled into something new. (Not that it matters, I’m having fun!) Here’s an example of what I mean… One of my personal fave sketchy-doodles: / Which has evolved into all of these… / 6-way / / double eye / / tower / / phoenix of summer / / gallop / / bird’s eye view t-shirt /

This Doodle Tree artwork of Margpie is such a wonderful surprise for the day! :D I was so over the moon when Margpie first bmailed me to tell me that she did a piece of artwork with me in mind and included my owls in her trademark doodletrees and asked if it would be ok for her to publish it here. I am so touched by her warm gesture and generosity of heart to me here on RB, please allow me to share my joy and Margpie’s Doodle Tree Art here :D Metamorphosised The little friends came to visit Doodle town, / they transformed the place and brought back the colour, / they were special , they spread their magic throughout the land / and now once again there is peace. This is a special tribute for Udonchow whose words of wisdom and unyielding support during the last few weeks has made her very special to me. / Thanks Ellen xx THANK YOU MARGPIE!! :D :D :D

Introduction In exploring personal and global transformation as you prepare for your journey through the transformation course, it is important to talk about the concept of fluid intelligence in relation to the ability to grow and expand our awareness. Continue Reading Lesson 1 Thank you for joining us in the transformational process of coming home to ourselves. We have all played the dance of separation in one form or another, yet we are now re-membering our connection and reminding ourselves and each other that at the core of each one of us is divine love. Welcome back home to all of us! Continue Reading Lesson 2 Welcome back! After lesson one’s powerfully inspiring materials, this second lesson will begin to look at the ways in which we, as a collective consciousness on this planet, have chosen to explore separation and abandonment. Continue Reading Lesson 3 Welcome to lesson three of the transformation course. After learning how the media sometimes manipulates public perception in disempowering ways, it is easy to blame those in the media involved with this for many of the problems in our world. Yet in order to be powerful, inspiring members of the transformation team, taking responsibility for our own lives is an essential quality. Continue Reading Lesson 4 Remember that in order to take responsibility for our lives and promote major transformation in our world, it is important to know at least the basics of what’s going on behind the scenes. As always, we encourage you to open to divine guidance and ask for assistance in integrating this information in whatever way best serves you and all of us. Continue Reading Lesson 5 Our sacred love flows out to you! In the first lesson, we mentioned that every person in the world has a heart, and every heart has a place within that wants only to love and be loved. Since that lesson, you’ve been on a rather intense journey through shadow and light. Continue Reading Lesson 6 Look – in the sky – it’s a bird – it’s a plane. No! It’s an unidentified flying object sending love our way!!! It would be arrogant to think that humans are the only intelligent life in the universe – not to mention lonely. In fact, if the universe is billions of years old, it’s conceivable that there are many beings even in this galaxy who are at least millions of years in advance of us technologically. Continue Reading Lesson 7 Your sacred love flows into us. Our sacred love flows out to you and to all beings. Most of us know that each and every person on this planet has infinite potential within. Yet both conscious limiting beliefs and unconscious processes keep many people from even considering the power within themselves. Continue Reading Lesson 8 Are you ready to dive deeper? At two and a half hours, this is the longest lesson, so please move at whatever pace feels best to you. For those of you who were not aware of some of the hidden manipulations going on in our world before starting this course, this lesson may be challenging. Continue Reading Lesson 9 When faced with the potential of imminent death, most people suddenly find that life takes on a whole new perspective. Suddenly all of the belongings they might have accumulated seem quite meaningless while the relationships formed and love shared takes on great significance. Continue Reading Lesson 10 The place beyond death may not be scary for many on the Transformation Team. Yet for most of us, being sick in the physical body can be a figurative and literal pain. What is it that causes us to become sick? What keeps us healthy? These are not easy questions to answer, and the answer can vary greatly depending on what perspective we choose to take. Let us first explore the role of the pharmaceutical industry and politics in health. Please read the highly informative two-page summary at the link below. Continue Reading Lesson 11 You’ve now completed half of the transformation course. Congratulations!!! For those journeying with a guide, we look forward to your arrival in the community networking section of the website once you’ve completed the course. This lesson provides information which puts what we’ve covered here into a greater context and gives you an opportunity to reflect on what you’ve experienced so far during the course. To put the global political situation into a broader perspective, please read the concise two-page summary at the link below. Continue Reading Lesson 12 Now that you’ve completed half of the transformation course, it’s time to dip into the well of infinite energy. Very few know how to consciously tap into this well, yet we have all experienced the powerful forces there to some extent. Continue Reading Lesson 13 Possibly the most powerful action we can take to promote planetary transformation is to explore deep within ourselves to find the places where either consciously or unconsciously we are not supporting what’s best for ourselves and for all of us. Continue Reading Lesson 14 Are you ready for another wild trip down the rabbit hole? Now that we have explored our own deepest personal challenges, it is time to explore what is possibly the deepest challenge facing our planet. Continue Reading Lesson 15 Now that we have gone to some of the deepest depths of both our personal and global challenges, let us shift our focus to inspirational materials which powerfully call on us to create a new paradigm based on love and empowerment. Most of you have heard of or read the transformational book Course in Miracles. Below is a link to several pages of the best quotes from the course. We invite you to read slowly through them and breathe in the deep wisdom shared. Continue Reading Lesson 16 Now that you’ve explored the shift in paradigms of which we are all a part, we invite you to consider how this applies to your own life. Possibly the single most important action transformation team members can take to help the shift to a new paradigm based on love and empowerment is to get clear on their purpose and intentions in life, and to then live that purpose and follow those intentions to the very best of their ability. Continue Reading Lesson 17 Though life for humanity on planet Earth and the challenges that come up in our individual lives can be infinitely complex, the principles behind what happens are often quite simple. Continue Reading Lesson 18 Two potent topics which offer incredible opportunities for transformation on both personal and global levels are sex and money. Both of these can bring up vulnerable parts of ourselves related to intimacy and security needs. Even people who have done a lot of personal and spiritual growth work can still run into serious challenges with one or both of these. Continue Reading Lesson 19 We may be taught little about money in our world, yet we are given even less healthy information about how to deal with sexuality in a sexually obsessed culture. For many people, sex is even more seductive than money. Our media, advertising, and entertainment industries are filled with subtle and not-so-subtle messages about sex. The underlying thrust is all about beauty, sexual desire, and how important it is to buy the products or operations which will make us popular, more attractive, and better lovers. Continue Reading Lesson 20 In terms of sexuality we are divided into male and female. In terms of money, we are divided into rich and poor. Our day-to-day life is filled with these and many other dualities. These dualities can easily lead to a polarization of beliefs and lifestyles. Once large groups of people become strongly polarized against each other, it becomes easy for those supporting one end of the polarization to justify hatred, killing, and even war against the other. Yet is this what we really want? Continue Reading Lesson 21 You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete. Buckminster Fuller Welcome to the final lesson of the transformation course! In this lesson, as we prepare to welcome all who have traveled with a guide through the course to join the Transformation Team community portal, we review previous lessons and come back to the interconnectedness of us all. Your sacred love flows into all of us. Our sacred love flows out to you. Continue Reading By no means do we expect all people/members to agree with information presented in the course. Yet by at least having gone through the many topics covered, we share an awareness of many things of which few on our planet are aware. By spreading this awareness, we can powerfully transform our lives and the world around us.

Hi all, I just felt it was right to let you in on the top sellers of Diesel Laws to date. This is to not toot my own horn, but show you that selling t-shirts in this current climate is still possible. I currently sell a shirt every two days, but as of late, it has moved up a bit thanks to the AUDIOBOTS – TRANSFORMERS Tee The Diesel Laws brand started about 8 months ago and these figures go back to about 4 months ago. Just so you are aware, I uploaded ‘Darth Vader Rocks’ a while ago, then removed it, and have only just put it back up again – so those sales are not from the last two days lol. I will talk more about how to get continuous sales in another journal entry, but for now, here are the top earners. Darth Vader Rocks 24 (T-shirts sold) / Beetles on Abbey Road 18 (T-shirts sold) / Music Head 15 (T-shirts sold) “Beetles on Abbey Road”: has been the quickest shirt sold for Diesel Laws, selling one on the day it released. It has also been the highest riser for the brand since its inception approx two months ago. Another high flyer is the Audiobots – Transformers t-shirt, selling 4 shirts since its upload on the bubble only 9 days ago. So that’s it for now, I hope that has given you a bit of insight from my end, and very soon I will write a post on how to keep continuous sales coming back to your t-shirts. Transfomers. They’re more than meets the eye, and because I was never that much a fan of the cartoons, I really liked the previous movie a lot. Pity I’ve now seen this movie and was more than a little disappointed by it. I believe the wording of my Facebook status afterwards was: “[I] watched Transformers II to dull the pain of work… and now I’m turning to alcohol to dull the pain of Transformers II”. If you don’t remember the previous movie, I even challenged myself to write a 15 minute version of Transformers in homage to Cleolinda Jones’ excellent book filled with similar (and certainly superior) style synopses. Whether I can do one for Transfomers II without putting myself through watching it again (which I’m kind of reluctant to do) I’ll have to see. Still, I had the day of the Premiere off work (after a half-marathon the day before), and I even had the chance to line up a bit earlier than usual, this time in the hope of getting photos of an unusually attractive cast (by which I obviously mean Megan Fox) Was it worth it? For the amount of time I lined up – No. For the experience – perhaps. To the possibly permanent detriment of my relationship to my camera and its autofocus system – Yes, or maybe No, depending on the wording. / All of a sudden, dozens of employees texted their bosses to explain they couldn’t come in to work because of the giant robots roaming around parts of London… / I see….. / In defence of these teen girls’ efforts, some of my pieces of analysis have been accused of similar incoherence. / The award for cutest reporter of the day goes to…. (I felt this album needed to be balanced by the inclusion of at least one female who wasn’t Megan Fox. And besides, she is cute..) / Actor John Turturro, who may or may not have been wearing his awesome hawaiian boxers and ‘Sector Seven’ singlet under his suit…. / ... although it is possible he was. / Actor Tyrese Gibson (and behind him, the head of security at most of these premieres. Hmm…. perhaps I should pixelate him out of the picture to protect his identity?) / Actor Josh Duhamel, whom I can never quite accurately distinguish from actor Timothy Olyphant (from Deadwood and Die Hard 4.0). Not that this is a problem I need to deal with on a daily basis.. / Actress Megan Fox (did I swoon? Well… no. But I learned in the most devastating way imaginable that my camera appears to be female in that it staunchly preferred to not lock focus on her for some reason. We’re still not on speaking terms…) / Once again, actress (or should I say Walking Magazine Cover) Megan Fox. The black and white conversion in this photo and the other one is due to the distractingly yellow jackets of the police in the background. I simply call this photo Fox / We’re about half-way through the premiere and Megan Fox’s People find the time to brush her hair and reapply some makeup. I haven’t seen that at a premiere before… / Actor Shia LaBeouf may also be a victim of poor Pentax continuous centre-focussing, if his expression is anything to go by. That said, tens of thousands of screaming girls did their best to cheer him up / He doesn’t mind girls working on his engine. In fact, he prefers it. (Shia’s character did get some of the best lines in the previous movie, and apparently he and the actors who played his parents ad libbed a fair amount. Impressive) / I was hoping for a smile, but I suppose a blown kiss from Megan Fox isn’t too bad a thing to take home with me. / “Tom, the weather forecast is for rain and thunderstorms, and a sixty percent likelihood of giant fu^$king ROBOTS. Now let’s go back to the studio” / I’m still not entirely convinced Megan Fox is a good actress, but I am one hundred percent certain that most guys do not care. And her interviews are generally brilliant to listen to, so it’s a rare case of liking the actress more than the characters. (I’m sure she’s overjoyed…) / “Surely y’all’s name can’t ALL be ‘ebay’??” Megan Fox makes a fair point. / It’s director Michael Bay. If his movies are anything to go by, I expect (and sort of hope) that every time he has breakfast his toaster explodes in slow motion and five different camera angles!! / Interviewer : Hi / Megan Fox : Hi / Interviewer : .... / Megan Fox : ... / Interviewer : ... / Megan Fox : ... / Interviewer : Yeah. That’s all I’ve got, pretty much. Mind if I just keep staring at you? / Megan Fox : I guess not / We’re now three-quarters of the way through the premiere, and just about to do the group shot in front of the giant robot with the rest of the cast. Obviously it’s about time for another quick make-up touch-up. (And I agree… I reapply my lip-gloss several times each day> it’s all about having pride in your appearance, people!!) / Memo to : Shia LaBeouf . From : Every guy in Leicester Square. Message : YOU. ARE.STANDING. NEXT. TO. MEGAN. FOX. COULD. YOU. AT. LEAST. TRY. TO. LOOK. CHEERFULL?? Regards, Male population of Earth. / Ah… he’s finally realised it. Well noticed, sir. / The group shot. I don’t want to use this photo to pour scorn on the autofocus of the Pentax K10D in high pressure situations, but I set the camera to centre-focus for this (for… obvious reasons) but actor Tyrese Gibson on the far left is the person most in focus. And that makes no sense unless my camera hates me, or is a woman. Or possibly both. / Umm… okay. Well, at least I got one shot not obscured by thousands of reaching fans!! / Sigh… I’ll see you for the premiere of Transformers III, then?? Well, fanboy adulation notwithstanding, it joins the recent premieres I’ve been to: / The Hangover – Heather Graham! And some guys! / Tormented – People! Other People! / The Jonas Brothers 3D Experience – Jonas! Jonas! ... and Jonas! / A Night at the Museum2 – Stiller! Gervais! Azaria! / State of Play – Mirren! Crowe! / Star Trek – JJ Abrams! Eric Bana! Sylar! As well as the total Archive of Premieres So, fair enough I got a couple of not-too-bad-shots. But I won’t lie, it wasn’t my favourite premiere from a photographic perspective. Can’t wait for the movie, though, with my expecations kept firmly in check at ‘Terminator Salvation’ levels. Until next time!

  • Honoring the Spirit of Halloween

Tomorrow is Halloween. For most, it is the day to dress up in crazy costumes, go to parties, lead children to stranger’s houses to collect candy, and, for many adults, to act like children. America is really good at degrading tradition to its most base of qualities. I have long thought it strange that Americans have adopted an old pagan holiday, but then, the holiday hasn’t really been adopted, as much as usurped and corrupted. Celebrating Halloween doesn’t have to be just frivolous and empty fun. It also doesn’t even have to be observed in conflict with non-pagan religious belief. At the heart of Halloween is a celebration of the closing of the year and an honoring of the spirits of our ancestors. We see the cycle of death around us, as the landscape transforms and goes into its dormant stage. It makes sense that the Celts would see this as the end of the year, for endings are occurring all around us at this time. This becomes a wonderful time to reflect on all that came in the previous months and let go of the negative influences and burdens of the previous cycle, while celebrating the achievements and preparing for the new. It is not certain where the idea of costumes came in, there are lots of speculation, but nothing conclusive. I like to think of dressing up as a way of re-creating your new self for the coming year. It is an opportunity to try on a new identity, see how it fits, before starting the new cycle. We are not limited to mundane, well-defined roles. We can become archetypes, heroes, spirits, fantasy creatures whose attributes of which we can connect to and carry through into the next year. There is a dark aspect to Halloween. Many dress as monsters, attend haunted houses, talk of the ghosts and ghouls that run rampant through the neighborhood. Much of this stems from a very deep-rooted fear and misunderstanding of death and endings in general. But, if we look at this dark aspect as something positive, rather than frightening, what might we discover? The Morrigan, the ancient goddess of death and fertility and the land, now most commonly associated with ancient Irish myth. The Morrigan is a symbol representing the dark aspects that we all experience and possess within. Everything emerges from the dark, the child from the womb, the day from night, light from the void, and The Morrigan symbolizes the power that exists within this place of potentiality. She is the perfect symbol for Halloween as we celebrate the end of the cycle by returning to the dark and beginning the cycle again. We acknowledge that day gives way to night, that the trees and plants die around us, only to return again with the light of spring. The dark aspect is not something to be feared, for to fear the dark, is to be afraid of our own nature and the action of creation itself. Darkness is to be understood as part of a natural cycle of rise and fall, expanding and contracting, reaching out and turning inward. The symbol of The Morrigan offers us a way to understand and navigate the dark paths throughout our life, if only we overcome our fears and reach out to accept the “fruit” (or perhaps candy!) of knowledge she offers us. I am not suggesting that we all worship and idolize the image of The Morrigan, instead, I am encouraging that you look upon her as a symbol and archetype, representing the energies and qualities that your particular belief system supports. You can find your own symbol that represents the qualities of The Morrigan and use that to help you connect to the energies of the season. Ultimately, Halloween can be a day of transformation and an evening of celebration, it doesn’t have to be empty and meaningless. We can use this time to honor what has passed before us, let go of that which burdens us, and remember our ancestors who sacrificed their lives to give us what we have today. Have a safe and transformative Halloween! DoAn
