Water based oils on canvass
This painting represents the transformation of the goddess Boann into the River Boyne. Boann’s husband was Nechtan, who was keeper of the sacred well Segais (the Well of Wisdom). Around the well grew nine magical hazel trees, from which grew magical crimson hazelnuts. The nuts fell into the well feeding the five colorful salmon that lived inside the well. Each salmon represented wisdom obtained through the five senses and had distinctive crimson spots on their bellies from eating the hazelnuts. All, but Nectan and his assistants, were forbidden to approach the well. This restriction irked Boann, and she decided one day to approach the well. To spite her husband, whom she believed greedily coveted the well, Boann approached the well counter clockwise. But what she didn’t know is that the well itself had specific conditions in which one could gaze into it. One must approach clockwise three times before looking straight and steadily into the well or one’s eyes would burst from the power of the wisdom contained within. Boann peered cautiously into the well, which caused the water to rise angrily and it took one of her eyes. Because she approached the well counter clockwise, she had further angered the waters and so the well erupted with a torrent. Boann fled from the rushing waters losing an arm and a leg before the angry waters reached the sea, leaving behind a 70 mile long river, now called the Boyne River. Having lost one eye, one arm, and one leg, Boann was transformed. She existed from that point on somewhere half in and half out of the physical world. She became the soul of the river, but also something much more powerful. For when she released the waters of Segais, she freed the salmon of knowledge into the world. Now humans had access to the wisdom reserved only for the gods. Anyone who ate the flesh of the salmon, instantly possessed the knowledge they contained. Boann then became the patron goddess of poetic and spiritual inspiration. Her influence bridges the gap in the wisdom of mind to allow the feminine nature in each of us to stream into our being. Her sacrifice represents the transformation of the self that is required for wisdom to enter. Her essence is present in all rivers. To call upon her, one must simply invoke her name while sitting next to a river and listen with a clear mind and an open soul. Her gift of wisdom will transform you. Another use for the transform tools in Photoshop – this time, no photographs used. I just drew a random shape with the pen tool. filled it with a blue, purple, grey gradient – and then tranformed like mad to get the shape of the head and wings. The eyes I put in with a circular marquee and the body and feet I drew in, again with the pen tool. / / Not as nasty looking as the fish, more of a wise old man look. / / Hope you like it.

Oil Pastel and Acrylic on old wood with slight digital enhancements Ophelia, puzzled by the radical transformation that had taken place overnight to this butterfly friend of hers, thought to herself, “She was in a white thread-like casing yesterday, how did all that happen so fast? There must be something magical about that case!” This is inspired by a book Hope For The Flowers by Trina Paulus. This is a cute and yet thought provoking story about two caterpillars who because they mistake the meaning of their urge to get high, get entangled climbing a horrible “caterpillar pillar”. And for two caterpillars, we all know, surrendering to the cocoon is the only way to finally fly. Hope For the Flowers is a book that celebrates HOPE. My fave lines from the book is “How does one become a butterfly?” She asked pensively. “You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar.” We are all meant to be as beautiful and free like the butterflies, that’s our destiny…as we free ourselves to be who we really are…and together with our innate talents,we bring hope to the world around us, bringing change inevitably around us :D / You can view and buy my other “Metamorphosis” creations from my Zazzle Gallery:
“There are two ways of spreading the LIGHT… / to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.” Edith Wharton The above saying has been a ‘mantra’ of mine for quite some time, however today as I was playing with this heARTwork, a burst of energetic LIGHT sparked beneath my feet, lighting me like a Christmas tree, up the chakra channels until I could no longer sit still. Stepping outside, with camera in tow, the most ethereal skyline I have ever seen… If we are to transform the world, we must first transform ourselves… With this insight, my intentions are to provide a melody of opportunities, tools and experiences to assist those seeking the ‘CHANGE’... Change the World
The symbolism of this piece is quite rich, and in further researches I found out that I ended up making relations between all the representations without consciously being aware of it. The Chemistry is about inner alchemy and how the power of transformation manifests itself through Will. That’s basically my version of the ancient illustrations on alchemy in which we see a dragon-serpent “wrapping” a maiden. In my version, for artistical reasons, I decided not to draw the serpent involving the maiden’s body, but putting her closer to the background, and showing her body changing according to the colors of the environment – which are the colors of the four elements. The serpent is a representation of the unconscious forces of Will. The maiden raises from a pond (the beginning of all things, regeneration, new birth) that has been formerly muddy and still (the dark green color at the edges), and now is made clear by the power of fire (strength, courage, will, passion), or the dragon. A bunch of monarch butterflies come out the pond. The butterfly is one of the symbols of the Gemini sign (Mercury) and the classical representation of regeneration and rebirth. The maiden’s hair turns first into green grass from which 3 lotus flowers (another symbol of rebirth) arise, and then into fire. The dragon’s head show itself among the profusion of hair. The four elements are clearly present, in images and colors: Fire (dragon’s head, the top of the picture, the color red), Earth (grass and leaves, the color green), Air (butterflies, the color yellow) and Water (the pond, the color blue). It’s part of our journey as human beings to face muddy waters throughout our life. But to remain stagnant in them is our choice. We all have the inner strength to being born again, to rebuild ourselves – we just need to accept the changes and look toward the future. Watercolor, gouache and pencil on board, / 11×14 / 2009 The heart has a voice and a music, the same ones your spirit have recognized for many ages. The voice of your heart is the voice of freedom. Through it you’ll be able to find yourself and find your inner God. Let that voice be heard, recognize yourself as the creator of your own reality. Put aside all the masks they have made you wear in order to belong to the illusions they created. Don’t waste your life living them. Be what you are born to be.

Colored pencils on Bristol board, / 8.5×12 / 2008 I’ve been for quite some time seeking to join two of my biggest passions: astrology and art, two languages with so much in common. Then the idea for the Astroportraits was born. They are very special portraits inspired on your astrological profile. I incorporate to the picture the imagery, symbols and colors referent to the energy patterns showed in your astro chart – Rising sign, Sun and Moon signs, predominant element, Moon Nodes and other important points. The portrait becomes a visual poem, a register of your potentials and talents, reminding you how special and unique you are. A representation not only of your exterior image, but also of your inside, of your heart and soul. This is my own self portrait. I am a Gemini with Leo rising and Moon in Scorpio, and a Water/Air type. It was not easy to create my own portrait, since I identify myself with so many symbols and elements that I thought better to let the intuition go in my favor. In the very last years I’ve been lived a phase of intense changes that made me seek for my strength within, something that I don’t remember to have done so hard before. I remember having made a very rough sketch of a Scorpio (my moon sign) and a Lion (my rising sign), my two inner powers; then I stuck it on the wall and looked at it every time I needed strength, to remind myself that I had that force, that it was in me as part as what I was. Things are surely smoother now, but I wanted my portrait as a perennial register of this power I discovered within myself. Then I drew a Lion, my rising sign, very close to me, almost like a constant companion. This lion arises from the waters, from the big ocean of emotions that characterize all the water types. Although one may think that water people are fragile due to their emotional, sensitive nature, they may be considered extremely strong exactly due to this attunement – they know like nobody how to deal with such world. My Air quality is represented by the color yellow and by the butterflies – also representatives of my sun sign, Gemini. Butterflies go vivaciously from one place to another just like Gemini does. They are also flying animals, symbols of freedom, one of my strongest characteristics. Another reason for picking the butterfly is because it’s one of my favorite animal totems, present in several of my pieces. Butterflies are the symbol of rebirth and transformation and this is why it makes them so special to my eyes. Rebirth and transformation are also keywords of my Moon sign – Scorpio. Another element I created to represent this sign in my portrait was the lotus flower, due to its relation to situations of reconstruction after long struggle or even total loss – the lotus blooms from the mud. It is also a symbol of spirituality, something that is an important part of my daily life and that helps me keep going in spite of any obstacle. A triskele, Celtic symbol of life cycles, shows on the top with the glyphs of Gemini, Leo and Scorpio.
