Nikolo-Ugreshsky monastery as founded in 1380 on the order of Prince Dmitry Donskoy on the site where he had seen the icon of St. Nicholas, the patron saint of Russia and in gratitude to God for the victory of the Russian troops in Kulikovskaya battle on the Kulikovo field. For many centuries the monastery was one of the spiritual centers of Russia, bearing education to people, rendering assistance to the suffering ones. The monastery has seen times of glory and oblivion. The magnificent Preobrazhensky (Transfiguration) Cathedral was built by the architect A.S. Kaminski (1830-1904). It is the second largest cathedral after Christ the Savior Cathedral in Moscow. Its height is 77 m. Besides the Cathedral, the ensemble of the monastery contains some smaller churches: The Holy Virgin Assumption Church (1852), St Peter and Paul’s Church (1860), the Church of Holy Mother of God Icon “All Grieving Pleasure” (1869), the Church of Holy Mother of God Icon “Kazanskaya” (1870) and other churches and chapels

This is the approach to The Mountain of the Transfiguration on Mt. Tabor. / MCN: CD06E-C1E0E-6B5A9 —-—-—-—-—-—-——- Image copyright © 2008, Philip Golan / Copying and displaying or redistribution of this image without permission from the artist is strictly prohibited —-—-—-—-—-—-——- Transfiguration of Jesus —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-- .....”According to Matthew 17:1-13 (and Mk 9:2, Lk 9:28), Jesus is transfigured before Peter, James, and John on the “mountain”. There are several candidates, such as Hermon (the tallest in Israel) and Tabor. Both are also referred as high mountains, see Psalms above (“Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name”). Tabor is closer to the center of Jesus activities, and also it is referred as “the mountain” in other texts. According to old traditions, Tabor is the holy mountain, and is called “the mount of Transfiguration” . “And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. / And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. / And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only. And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead. / And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things. But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them. / Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist”. ”..... Found on ; Bible Walks*

Traditional lightpainting of the beautiful and rustic Chapel of the Transfiguration in Grand Teton National Park (near Moose, Wyoming). Canon 10D, f 6.7, exposure time 30sec. Used very strong flashlights or light canons, and the delayed shutter release so that I could get off to one side to do the light painting. Having a way to charge the light sources during different shots is important since they can run out of battery power quickly; car chargers work well.

Portrait of person in a state of transfiguration. Feature in Peace, Love and Tranquility MUSIC LINK Solsbury Hill – Peter Gabriel Solsbury hill Climbing up on solsbury hill / I could see the city light / Wind was blowing, time stood still / Eagle flew out of the night He was something to observe / Came in close, I heard a voice / Standing stretching every nerve / I had to listen had no choice I did not believe the information / Just had to trust imagination / My heart was going boom boom, boom / Son, he said, grab your things, Ive come to take you home. To keeping silence I resigned / My friends would think I was a nut / Turning water into wine / Open doors would soon be shut So I went from day to day / Tho my life was in a rut / till I thought of what Id say / Which connection I should cut I was feeling part of the scenery / I walked right out of the machinery / My heart was going boom boom boom / Hey, he said, grab your things, Ive come to take you home. / Yeah back home When illusion spin her net / Im never where I want to be / And liberty she pirouette / When I think that I am free Watched by empty silhouettes / Who close their eyes, but still can see / No one taught them etiquette / I will show another me Today I dont need a replacement / Ill tell them what the smile on my face meant / My heart was going boom boom boom / Hey, I said, you can keep my things, theyve come to take me home.

Also seen in Flickr. Caleruega Philippines is a house of prayer and renewal. It is open to activities like retreats, recollections, prayer & renewal workshops, study, research, youth camps, marriage & family encounter celebrations, skills training, leadership seminars, art, music, and liturgy workshops and environment and agriculture-related activities. Rising tall and majestic in the highest point of Caleruega is the Transfiguration Chapel. From here one can behold the expanse of Caleruega and witness the glorious opus of radiant nature – a symphony of sky, trees, and the distant hills of Batulao. Like St. Peter during Jesus’ transfiguration, anyone who experiences such splendor of nature’s poetry will declare: Lord, it is good for us to be here… (Mt.17:4). The chapel itself is replete with symbolism. Its façade is a reproduction of the original chapel in Caleruega, Spain. Its hut-shaped roof is in remembrance of the temporary sheds that the apostles wanted to build for Jesus, Moses, and Elijah during the transfiguration (Mt 17:1-8). The seal of the Dominican Province of the Philippines is depicted in stained glass in the upper portion of the chapel’s façade. The seven grapevines entwined in the steel doors of the chapel not only portray Jesus as the vine and we as branches (John 15:5), but also symbolize the seven sacraments. The main altar is a carved tree trunk representing the “stem of Jesse,” mentioned in the Book of the Prophet Isaiah: then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will bear fruit (Is 11:1). The tabernacle is a gentle reminder of the burning bush through which God revealed Himself to Moses in Mt. Sinai (Ex 3:2). The birds carved on the communion table are representations of God’s providence in Matthew 6:26: Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, neither do they reap…and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. The stained glass depicts the Transfiguration of Jesus witnessed by Peter, John, and Luke. With Jesus are Moses and Elijah, two significant instruments of God in the Old Testament (Mat 17:3).
