The Former Mar Mikhael Train Station in Beirut: Lebanon’s trains have not run since the civil war. Many train engines, some dating back to the 19th century, can still be found behind this train station’s (which has remained intact) hangars.

Melbourne Flinders Street Station at night. A Melbourne Icon. This photo worked wholly in black/white well (just like a postcard shot) but decided to go with the yellow version to make a point. We all go about our business in a mad city rush that we don’t notice the beauty, strength and history right in front of us. PS: I guess you can tell that I now love the selective colour treatment! ;o)
After bubblemail chats with david malcolmson I was inspired to create a black and white version. This is more a journalistic style. To see the other version click here.
A picture taken at the metro station Forum in Copenhagen, Denmark. Post processing: / Adjusted the exposure and white balance a bit in camera raw. / Adjusted the levels and made the picture even lighter, added b&w layers set to multiply and soft light, both on 50% opacity. Added two b&w layers with a bluish tint set to overlay and multiply (100% and 20% opacity). Added an unsharp filter and straightened a bit.

The Railway Museum at Thirlmere in the Southern Highlands of NSW (about an hour southwest of Sydney Australia) is a treasure trove of ‘big boys’ toys’!!! Must get back for more considered shots … I was unprepared for the huge potential here, and the tricky lighting. A bit more study of the manual and some practise with settings before I go next time. / Landscapes Trees Cards EOD Rusty Flowers Architecture Macro CatchAll DM / /

This old rail service building is located in Healesville, Victoria, and is part of the Yarra Valley Railway . Trolley rides are still operated from the main station, and plans are in place to restore the line from Healesville to Yarra Glen. / Taken on a day out shooting with good mate and / Fab Tographer, JIM WORRALL
I thought this would make a cool t-shirt design. / I did not design it; a work colleague sent it to me.
The British Rail Class 55 is a class of diesel locomotive built between 1961 and 1962 by English Electric. They were designed for the high-speed express passenger services on the East Coast Main Line between London King’s Cross and Edinburgh. They gained the name “Deltic” from the prototype locomotive, DP1 Deltic, which in turn was named for its Napier Deltic power units. 22 locomotives were built, and they dominated services on the line until their withdrawal at the end of 1981. Six locomotives were preserved and are still running today. Nikon D80 Sigma 10-20mm lens HDR
A mural painted on a downtown building in Ft. Pierce, FL / Night Train (1995) by Blue Sky, (formerly Warren Edward Johnson) of an American painter and sculptor best known for his mural, Tunnelvision. Biography Blue Sky was born on September 18, 1938, in Columbia, South Carolina, as Warren Edward Johnson. In 1954, his first foray into art won him a national poster competition, two years before he graduated from Dreher High School. For the next six years, he served as a jet air craft technician in the Air National Guard, 169th Cameron Squad, while working several different jobs to pay for college – as a parade float builder, a layout artist, and a dance instructor, among others. Sky attended the University of South Carolina from 1958 to 1964. During this time, he received instruction from accomplished Ash Can painter Ed Yaghjian. Meanwhile, he sold original works through USC student art auctions at McMaster College. At the Springs Mills Show in 1964, in which over 700 artists participated, he was judged “best of show” by Henry Geldzahler, then curator of modern art at the Metropolitan Museum. Sky was then invited to study at the Art Students League of New York, where he lived and worked for the next year. Upon moving back to Columbia in 1966, Sky worked as a draftsman and conceptual artist for Wilbur Smith & Associates before returning to USC for graduate school. In 1970, he graduated, earning a Master of Education, because the university had not yet been certified to award a Master of Fine Arts. In 1974, Sky legally changed his name from Warren Edward Johnson to Blue Sky. He signed paintings before this year with the abbreviation “WAR.” In 2000, Sky was awarded the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina’s highest civilian state honor, for his contributions to the arts – particularly, for painting the state’s first large-scale public mural in 1975. Career Sky has been solely supported by his art since 1970. Although he is perhaps best known for his public art, many of his public projects are self-funded, and his living is earned primarily through the sale of original artwork through the Blue Sky Gallery in Five Points. Blue Sky Gallery opened in 1981, and it has displayed his artwork exclusively since 1989. It is owned and operated by his wife, Lynn Sky. A Magic Place For Me Is The Midland Railway Centre As I Love Old Steam Trains!! / 73129 History. / Photo Take At Butterley Midland Railway Centre.Derbyshire. / British Railways standard class 5 No. 73129 is a preserved British steam locomotive. It is the only surviving Standard Class 5 built by British Railways which was fitted with Caprotti valve gear. 73129 was outshopped from Derby Works in August 1956. It was one of 30 built fitted with Caprotti valve gear. Originally allocated at Shrewsbury Shed (which required the fitting of GWR style lamp brackets), it was later transferred to Patricroft Shed (near Manchester) in 1958. It spent the rest of its working life there until it was stored at Patricroft from June to November 1967. It was officially withdrawn from traffic on 2 December 1967. During 73129’s working life, it covered roughly 198,359 miles – the majority in 1957 with 35,814 miles that year. Restoration was started at The Midland Railway Centre Butterley Derbyshire on a limited scale on 73129 shortly after it arrived there in 1975 although work began to tail off in around 1985. Another small attempt to restart the restoration was tried in 1992 although minimal work was carried out due to lack of financial and human resources. In late 1993, restoration began in earnest. This took over a decade. The first fire in 73129’s firebox since 1967 was lit at 3.25pm on the 22nd February 2004. Steam locomotives 92214, 80098, 47357 and Peckett 1163 “Whitehead” were all in attendace, all whistling when smoke first appeared from 73129’s chimney. /
