  • A long exposure capturing the trails of moths as they circle around some floodlights

  • The dry rolling hills of the Pyrenees during summer, this region has become a popular wine district. / The area is part of Victoria’s historic gold trail.

  • One of my personal favorites. This picture taken in a rodeo (during the lasso tournament) in the south of Brazil. The cowboys are called “gauchos”, and this one is dressed typically. This type of large trousers are called “bombachas”. Captured at 300mm in negative film and then scanned.

  • Waterfall in the peak district, in black and white

  • Taken from a roadbridge over the A30 into Cornwall. The glow is coming from Penzance. / long time lapse exposure of over 30 seconds Canon 30D / ISO 100 / F11

  • The traditional, iconic image of Machu Picchu, with Huayna Picchu in the background. Machu Picchu, Peru

  • This is my favorite image which I captured a year ago on an 8-day backpack into the incredible canyon. It was my first trip there, and I was with non-photographer/hard-core hiker types. So, I had to shoot on-the-go with very little time to think about my shots. This was the only day that we saw any clouds, and it really helped make the photo work. I didn’t realize this at the time, but the lines really draw the viewer in to the art. Lucky me. I leave tomorrow for another week-long backpack into the Grand Canyon!

  • Nikon D40, 18-55mm Nikkor lens Thankfully we had dressed warm enough for a short excursion, even though we were headed for the theatre later in the day, but I forgot and put on an old pair of leather gloves that are really not winter appropriate. At one point, my fingers were freezing, mainly due to my taking my hands out of the gloves in order to work the camera, and Wanda, my friend, made me swap with her so that I could wear her warm woolen mittens in between shots. / Friendship is sharing mittens, that’s for sure! / The beauty of this walk left a big impression on me. We barely covered any distance because of the cold and our husbands waiting back at her home, but she wanted me to see what a wonderful area was here in her neighborhood for exploring, and we vowed to come back, dressed appropriately and armed with snowshoes to make the passage easier. Taken Friday January 2nd 2009 in St-Lazare, Quebec CANADA. Featured in the Snow Glorious Snow group February 2009 / Featured in the ImageWriting group January 2009

  • My first real attempt at some star trails, I thought the South Celestial Pole would be a bit further up in the image but it ended up being just out but I think I still like this one. This tree is the same tree in my image Speed of Light. This technique will definitely require some more practice, the tree is lit from car headlights coming off Lysterfield Road in the distance. Borrowed mum’s new/old Canon 5D for this one with a 24-70mm f2.8 L series attached. / Settings Canon 5D, 24-70mm f2.8 L USM. • A photo of the beautiful Humber Bridge on a very misty morning. I was very lucky to get the aircraft vapour trail just in shot before it went too far.

Sumatran Tigers are native to the Indonesian island of Sumatra, and are the smallest of the 5 remaining sub species of tiger. (The others being the Siberian or Amur Tiger, the Bengal Tiger, the Indo Chinese Tiger and the South Chinese or Amoy Tiger) Unfortunately in the past 70 years, 3 other sub species have become extinct. • Believe it or not, this is not a “fantasy” image, created in a computer. This is a real photograph of a very real place! This is Rainbow Falls, in Watkins Glen State Park, located in upstate New York at the lower end of Seneca Lake. It is one of the most unbelievable places I have ever seen! I thank God and NY State for this most beautiful place on earth! Lush green ground vegetation and beautiful trees punctuate the enormous rock cliffs and the numerous waterfalls. The sound of flowing water is like natures music that accompanies you throughout your hike in the gorge. This photograph was captured with a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens on a Canon EOS 10D DSLR body. The aperture was f/4, shutter speed 1/15th sec at 40mm focal length. The camera & Lens were mounted on a Manfrotto tripod with a Manfrotto “joystick” ball head. A remote shutter release was used to minimize movement. No flash. Your comments are always welcome! Constructive criticism is appreciated. © 2009 Gene Walls All copyright and reproduction rights are retained by the artist. • Mesa Arch, Canyonlands NP, Utah, USA. Utah has an amazing landscape, there is so much to see, very photogenic with all that red rock, especially viewed against a very blue sky ! (I like it best when there are a few clouds as well though !) This Arch is reached along a rocky trail, and is very impressive, as it perfectly frames the view beyond. / We did quite a few of the trails in Canyonlands and Arches, and found the very dry going underfoot an absolute dream, since we are more used to having to play ‘dodge the bog’ here in super-wet Scotland ! Shot on Fuji Velvia, around seven years ago. I scanned it on to my PC with my Nikon Coolscan VED, and tidied up a bit of ‘dust’ in Photoshop. I also beefed up the red colour for more impact.
