Looking through the bus window on the way home, I see this playful movement of light and dark shades, between leaves and branches. It is a moment to be captured. Real image with no additional painting… The light painted it on my camera’s ccd sensor! I have set the camera on manual zoom, manual speed and aperture, so that the motion can be capture on shutter release. Behind the glass window of a moving bus, I hunt for the right angle of sun and the right tree, and follow throught the target like taking an image of a sport player. All about timing and a bit of luck! Love to see critiques and comments. All welcome. This was my first attempt at long exposure star trails while backpacking through the Eastern Sierra Nevadas. Davis is one of my favorite lakes in the Sierras to photograph, even dispite the MILLIONS of misquitos that inhabit the many meadow ponds around the area. I was covered from head to toe except my hands to take pics, and ended up with almost 20 bites on each hand. f/3.5 10 mins ISO 200 ........ / All images are © Nolan Nitschke. A couple of nights ago Matt (of Disenchanted Photography ) and I spent a couple of hours in his garage with the intention of experimenting with lighting and off camera flash. / We actually ended up shooting smoke trails for four hours and had a ball! / The experimentation with flash position, ISO and shutter speeds was very beneficial and I got alot out of the shoot! :D / / Check out this journal / / / / Art Folders… / / Entire Portfolio / Born From This Earth – Series / Hearts At War / Vehicular works / Architecture / Travel / B&W Photography / Transitional Industrial Utopian Series / Abstract / Models and Fashion Photography

Kaua’i, Hawaii. I’ve been to this under-rated island the first time for our honeymoon in 2004. When we took on the difficult 11-mile Kalalau Trail, I knew that wasn’t the last time I’ll be walking its deliciously muddy path. In 2008, I found myself tromping the same slick trail. It was as beautiful and rewarding as I remembered it to be. The best part of that hike? The chance to share it with our son (then 7 months old) who was such a trooper in his backpack carrier. I took this shot with him squirming behind me, eager to see what the fuss was all about ;)
Going on the sunbeam trail and trying to find an enchanted world first of all means being out at just the good moment. It really is a matter of about one hour or so in the early morning. Before it the sun is still too low to spread its beams, and when it has passed the sun has sucked up the morning haze and the world looks normal again. The forest may be very beautiful still in the morning sunshine, but that one special extra element, the lightbeam miracle, will have gone. / This shot was taken on the Horneboeg Heath here at Hilversum at the beginning of my trip yesterday morning, on a small horse riders´ path that is very nice, but normally has nothing special about it. The sun and haze made it look like the entrance into fairytale land, don´t you think so? At least that is my association. / Hilversum, 8th June 2009, 7.01 am / Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-200 mm at 40 mm / F 14, 1/30, ISO 250

Photo taken straight out of my camera “As Is”. This was a victory for me hiking this trail. It’s the first time I could actually hike a trail (about 1 mile) without having to stop or turn back.
