  • Trail of Tears
    by Dave Martin

Tired am I. Old, too. / Walking too far, too long.

This was my response to a Thanksgiving Day poetry challenge. It was written from the perspective of an old native man who decides that he will go no further from his home. That to leave was a fate worse than death.

  • ~ My Journey ~
    by adgray

For all that I have left behind, I am the body I am and the person I am

I saw this amazing painting of a Soothing Path created by Robin Munroe I could feel the scratches from the dried bushes the stubble and stones beneath my feet and then imagine the softness of the red dust and the longer greener grass and my words flowed again. We all have our own trails to walk and no matter how pretty they are there will always be stones to pain us, sticks to scratch us and gremlins ready to pounce! and the distant trail will look more appealing … but even it will have hazards! We are who we are from where we have been and what we have done / and no matter the journey we will have the strength to get to where we are meant to be going. UPDATE / Sadly Robin is with us no more and so the link to her folio and to the art that inspired this has gone also! / A lesson learned – get a copy of the art from the artists as I go before they go! / I hope all is well in her world! / Chookas! ♥

  • A Cleansing
    by lindybird

“The tiny pebble has worn such a deep hole into my soul that I can scarcely walk…”

I had a rough day today, and the only relief was to ride my bike on the local bike trail. I completely understand the Queen song “Bicycle”. It is pure euphoria.

  • ~ The Path ~

Could we ride horses along this trail / smell the crush of new grass under hoof

Another piece inspired by the awesome art I found here in redbubble. / I have belatedly, but thankfully come across the talent of Ms Francine Dufour Jones and her latest shot of On the Trail drew these words from me. I do so miss riding trails in the morning! Even walking! / Enjoy! :O) / Chookas! ♥

This picture was taken on day one of the Inca Trail, of which I completed in 3 days. I started on 30 December 2000 and arrived at Machu Picchu on 1 January 2001. I walked with this girl for about half an hour. The trail was an experience I shall never forget and am so glad I decided to do….. in January 2001 the Peruvian Government put a restriction on the number people being able to do the trail each year, and I suspect that have been made even greater. I welcome critical reviews of my work…please bubble me if you have any constructive comments….

  • Still they walk...
    by JaNae Boswell

As Jackson continues to sign / With Cherokee blood on the dotted line / Death follows the tears like breadcrumbs / Still they walk…

Well many of you probably don’t know…or wouldnt really recongize..but I am a quater Chippewa. My mother is about half and my hometown is actually a reservation in North Dakota (Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation). I really wanted to write something that went into that side of my history and so I chose the trail of tears. This was just one of the many tragedies my ancestors had to endure which is a sad thing because it was our american government that put them through it. So this is what a small part of what I wanted to do as a tribute to part of my heritage to show the pain I and many others still hold when thinking about what they went through…It is really a sad thing but I still hope you enjoy. Thanks. For some more information of the topic at hand. / Click here
